  1. "maybe we could all be like Phil Schaap" - let's not be insulting, eh?
  2. You're very lucky. My local library has had to cut the hours they're open, due to funding cuts from the local government. (My take is that the politicians feel that the more ignorant the public is, the better is is for politicians.) Definitely no $ available for Mosaic boxes here. To my amazement and delight, we buy almost everything on Mosaic and a fair bit of Bear Family too. Great and expensive library, beloved here in the Peoples Republic of Portland.
  3. there was a great interview in Cadence or Coda some time back, some heartbreaking stuff about Ziggy Vines and his family.
  4. My library (where I work and play) has it on order, thank you voters of Multnomah County!
  5. Seems like an appropriate time to tell my Ted Curson story again: I don't own much of him on record, net even sure what exactly, but I have a very vivid memory of the one time I saw him, literally 'sitting in' at a local venue (don't ask when - 'back in the day') at a front table playing his ass off with one hand, other arm 'round his companion du jour (sp?). Definitely seemed to be enjoying what life had to offer...
  6. I think Frank liked to get toasted...but then don't we all. I'm a wry man myself.
  7. What I want in my jazz is everything that life is, could be and should be. but a little less of fools who have rules 'bout what should be in jazz...
  8. Should have know it would be reissued, does the latest batch come with any bonuses?
  9. That Bitches be good brew, but as far as I know you can't get it anymore. Did anyone here try their Robt Johnson centenary brew, did it make you crawl on the floor and bark like a dog?
  10. But the toy instruments subvert the elitism of Jazz. And help break down the barrier between the musicians and the audience I must be very non-elitist, because the're all more or less toys when I play them...
  11. Yes it is, and like most folk songs it has a lot of varients, some of which are collected here: the unfortunate rake (to say nothing of the hoe)
  12. It was a stopgap messure until Chrysler Corp could develope a proper fully automatic transmission.
  13. "But EMI argues a legal principle which allows consumers to resell purchased material goods does not apply." This pretty much says that no 'they' won't (go after vinyls next), assuming consistancy. Which is, as always, a lot to assume...
  14. Pablo C. Bach Cello Suites & the Temptations Sing Smokey, yes I kn0w those are whole albums not tracks, too bad.
  15. Nobody cares, until their band gets inducted...or not.
  16. So, she was having an Art Frahm momment?
  17. I voted for Butter (blows better blues), as the blurb said, the Meters, the Marvelettes, Albert King, and Randy Newman. Fully expect Purple and Rush to get in now that the're counting pleb's votes. If not there'll definitely be trouble in the forest!
  18. I heard Ornette with a three (!) bass variant of this band, and loved it, anyone else hear that?
  19. That's some good stuff, better IMHO than most of the All We are Sayin' album, different material too. But if you wanna hear Bill F play the piss outta something, check out the version of La La La La La means I Love You on youtubes. Thanx, Dana
  20. And sometimes it don't, even when it do...just the sort of pointless retro-shit stuck between shows on public TV. No thanx.
  21. http://manybooks.net/titles/forstereother07machine_stops.html E>M> Forster, The Machine Stops
  22. TMI dude! So, as long as you're sharing, what's it like?
  23. I was going to [not] say that!
  24. Very good set. Now out of print (very quickly went from released to out of print, the estate dropped its deal with Concord). . . not easy to find. Quickly? blick of a freaking eye!
