Little Walter often recorded and worked gigs with two guitars, drums and 'Mississippi saxophone", reputedly 'cause he was too cheap to hire another guy... sounds like your new bass player knew what to do, congrats.
Don't know whether I'd like this one or not, but it certainly doesn't meet my definition of "early", he'd been recording for roughly two decades by then...
Thanks, but that's not what I was looking for - not the label but a fan site devoted to Albert and evrything related that's moved at least once, I can find references and links but none of them work...
Only thing grabbing my ears is my wife. wish I wa hearing new music that knocked me out but in light of recent events in my life it's been all comfort food (vintage Blue Note, Chess, Stax, Motown, Lester & Teddy Wilson).
I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer - I'm writing thsi mainly to encourage all you guys to get your boy parts checked out on a regular basis. i know the procedures can be unpleasant, but my PSA was only slightly elevated and Kaiser was NOT pushing for further exam or biopsy but I went ahead and did it and as a result I'll get to see my girl grow up.
What bugs me more than CD v. CDR, is that there are still two unissued outtakes from this session - Witchita Lineman & By the Time I Get to Phoenix. But then there's still a whole unissued album length session from 1970 too... As well as other bits and pieces from various GG sessions.
I know you've expressed a non-interest in live stuff from EC, but you should at least check out Live at the El Mocombo if you get the chance. (originally a Canadian promo, widely booted and now available legit) I would put it in the top 10-12 live albums ever...
Didn't Lewis Porter argument at length that if you're going to divide Lester's Work into 'periods', then there are really at least three such and that the simple pre/post division and the atrribution of the presumed decline to his unfortunate army experience are a steaming pile?
And I agree, the two albums with Teddy Wilson from '56 are all kinds of fine.
I have this double LP, nice garage rock comp, actually prefer it to the original Nuggets. Has my boys from Winnepeg doing "Shakin' All Over" among other treasures. Cover doewn't reaaly fir it; should be something more suburban and downscale.
