  1. He wrote a book I used to own, but never read all of, about (and not about?) Goeddle's therum....
  2. Interesting list
  3. Is that 'okay-ish' as in somewhere in the region of OK, or as in decidedly less than ok?
  4. "There are so many tenor players who can, and do play like that. " Not in my experience of saxophication on this planet. You know, except Jack Schlitz.
  5. Finally, Art playing in time signatures as complicated as he was...
  6. This one: Grant Green Quintet Claude Bartee (tenor sax) Emmanuel Riggins (organ) Grant Green (guitar) Herbie Lewis (bass) Idris Muhammad (drums) Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, May 29, 1970 6478 I Can't Leave Your Love Alone Blue Note unissued 6479 Let Yourself Go - 6480 Love On A Two-Way Street - 6481 Green Acid - 6482 Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head - 6483 Something - 6484 Let It Rain
  7. Mixed feeelings on this, I love all things out of time, but I guess its time has come.
  8. But GG's date right before Visions with Organ and Idres M has never been out officially anywhere, right?
  9. I don't think Grant Green's Visions or Stanley T's Always Something There and The Look of Love have ever been on US CDs (on BN, Applause doesn't count, even though I have the last two that way)...I think the've been out on BN in Jap, no?
  10. This must've the tour where he met Sonny Boy Wm. #2, right?
  11. I've heard this now on CD and LP. The extras are the other guys singing, pretty weak. The sound quality is poor, but not piss-poor. Performance good, but no more than moments of greatness. I'd probably recommend the leftovers from the first one (Original Lost Elecktra Session) ahead of this.
  12. The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street was a big favorite of my fathers, good stuff. Thanks!
  13. I do have a collection of the trio with Mingus, but that's vibes and I think I actually prefer him on xylophone...not that there's much difference since he played vibes with the motor off. The early side have lots of Teddy Wilson (always a good thing) and some nice Goodman, Shaw, Harry James, Dorseys, Chu Berry, etc.
  14. Is Toby Keith going to play the funeral?
  15. https://www.discogs.com/Red-Norvo-Giants-Of-Jazz-Red-Norvo/release/6274185 I've been listening to this fine collection ever since buying a xylophone for my daughter for xmas (it's mostly xylophone, some vibes). Wasn't sure whether to put this in currently listening, fav of the day/week, reissues, misc instruments, or what. But went with Artists to open it up to general discussion of Red's whole thing...
  16. 'would have' NOT "would of", think about what you're saying...
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyEeELJPbGk
  18. All the articles (only a few, admittedly) that I've read there have been kinda half-assed, FWIW, YMMV.
  19. Maybe weird covers were part of Jr Parker's character?
  20. Not to my ears, and Micks singing is much less mannered than recently. Not even sure when it's Keith playing lead guitar, he & Woody are two peas in a pod.
  21. Can you do Alligator Boogaloo that way?
  22. Oh absolutely, me too, and I love what Sonny played there. But earlier in my life I had been a buy the new Stones album the day it comes out guy and I'm still that way about Sonny.
  23. It was OK til the flute solo, totally broke the mood for me...
  24. Hey, that's why we have discussions...thanks for keeping it respectful. I'm willing to admit I may be projecting a bit 'cause I'm really enjoying being more excited about this than any Stones album since at least Tattoo You, 35 years ago.
