Both Bobby Timmons' and Don Patterson's Holiday Soul albums have been reissued (that's right, Prestige gave two successive catalog numbers the same name!). Neither is genius, but the're both good, greasy fun. Solid 'B's.
Was
(Mose Allison)
When I become was and we become were
Will there be any sign or a trace of th' lovely contour of your face
And will there be someone around
With essentially my kinda sound
When am turns to was and now is back when
Will someone have moments like this
Moments of unspoken bliss
And will there be heroes and saints
Or just a dark new age of complaints
When I become was and we become were
Will there be any Susans and Ralphs
Lookin' at old photographs
And wondering aloud to a friend

or perhaps more like this?
Some pretty fine stuff there, and pretty good notes as well. Don't know the whole history well enuff to judge beyond that.
Am I right to assume that with these you get the 5 albums as originally issued, no outtakes, no alternates?
I'm glad someone is sticking up for the later work, but IMHO "Being With You", "Cruising", etc. are barely songs at all (neither is "Ooh Baby Baby"), however well sung they are. And yes, songwriting still matters to me, now, today, always.

I love Smokey, even though I'd have to say his period of really great writing lasted only about 5-6 years. Discuss...
I've always enjoyed Kenny when I've heard him, whether live with Miles (Twice IIRC) or on the radio or whatever, but if this is trly his best album, that's sac. @nd rate hard bop revival followed by 2nd rate '70s R&B revival followed by Wayne Sharoters Left Nut...meh! Or maybe I'm having a bad day.
