  1. After all is said and done, this was a major party jam:
  2. Yes, a good read, with lots of 1950's L. A. music history. I really enjoyed it.
  3. Me too. Re-issues of RED CLAY, GOD BLESS THE CHILD, SUNFLOWER, SUGAR and PRELUDE were previously available. Why can't they release some of Farrell's classic stuff, like FOLLOW YOUR HEART and OUTBACK? Sheesh!
  4. Be sure to check out the alternate take of THE GIGOLO!
  5. If this doesn't give you goose bumps I don't know what it takes.......
  6. I was told by a prominent jazz musician that Dave Brubeck was half Native American and the unique time signatures of TAKE FIVE and BLUE RONDO A LA TURK, etc. were attributed to his culture. Does anyone else know anything about this?

    Chico Hamilton

I have a Columbia LP by Chico recorded in 61 or 62 under the name of DRUMFUSION; THE DYNAMIC NEW CHICO HAMILTON QUINTET. The quintet consisted of Charles LLoyd, Gabor Szabo, Garnett Brown and Albert Stinson. Wonderful music.
  8. Agreed .
  9. A Great album. "MAY PEACE BE UPON THEM" is cathartic.
  10. I believe DORIAN was composed by Ronnie Matthews and was first recorded on the album CRACKLIN' by Roy Haynes which also features Ronnie Matthews on piano.
  11. Has anyone else noticed that Airto is so stoned that he walks into a pole while exiting the stage? It really cracks me up!
  12. Tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, Corea, Clarke, White and Scofield.
  13. PM sent on the John Wright - SOUTH SIDE SOUL and Oliver Nelson - AFRO-AMERICAN SKETCHES.
  14. This one. A nice loping, funky feeling to the title track.
  15. Well, Lance took third in the most remarkable comeback in the history of the Tour. Can the nay sayers and accusers finally admit that he is among the greatest cyclist ever? Will they finally concede that he's not a doper after he has been tested more than anyone in sport?
  16. Although it was recorded in 2005, Jerry Gonzalez and The Fort Apache Band's RHUMBA BUHAINA, dedicated to Art Blakey and The Messengers, is a real good'un.
  17. Happy B-day, D!
  18. Just receive an email from CD Universe of these SACD re-issues: HOOTIN' 'N TOOTIN' - Fred Jackson MOANIN' - Blakey A.T.s DELIGHT - Art Taylor DEXTER CALLING - Dexter Gordon They're selling for $23.18 each. Has a domestic CD of HOOTIN' ever been released?
  19. I'm not going to post an opinion. I'm just sayin' let the hand wringing begin!
  20. Received the Vol. 2 RVG today and I'm sorry to say Concord really screwed this up. In addition to not including the two other tracks from the session on Vol. 1, Vol. 2 has much lower volume! This makes it frustrating to play both volumes back to back because you have to rush to turn the volume up or down, depending upon which volume is played first, sheesh! Who's in charge of quality control on these reissues?!!!
  21. I was speaking of an upgrade/RVG. The version I have could use a 24 bit enhancement.
  22. Why not Lou Donaldson's BLUES WALK?
  23. How do you do that without a receipt? My receipt is MIA after such a long wait.
  24. I believe half of the Cannonball/Ernie Andrews album was recorded at the Memory Lane nightclub in Los Angeles, the other half was recorded at The Lighthouse, Hermosa Beach California. MERCY, MERCY, MERCY was, indeed, recorded in Capitol's studio although the cover says "Live at 'The Club' (wherever that's supposed to be).
