Where were you able to order this one from? I'd be interested to read your thoughts on the disc once you've had a chance to listen to it a few times. I ordered it right from the label, and it arrived within a couple of weeks, right from Lebanon [the label's home]. This disc is insanely good. I have heard Zerang only in a couple of other situations, and certainly not in duo. His playing on this really brings to the fore his background [Assyrian-American]. There is some serious ancient Mesopotamian rhythms happening there, a different kind of ferocious swing. The second cut features Zerang on the darbuka hand drum. Superb all around. Hearing Brotzmann duo with drummers in the Interstellar Space tradition gets more and more thrilling. There is quite a range of thoughts and dynamics that flourish when he plays with a percussionist only. That duo LP with Walter Perkins comes to mind.
  16. I picked up the new Mars Volta record, plus the Gil Evans Complete Pac Jazz and Jackie Mac's Demon's Dance. I considered clearing out my cart, but the holidays were a little rough on the wallet!
  17. Could it be this?
  18. I am loving this. That drummer is playing a groove that I could hear all day long.
  19. That was the thing I was looking for. Well said! And only in one paragraph!
  20. I'm deeply inspired by my late father damn near every day. But I don't wear his clothes. That doesn't seem to be a contradiction.
  21. But what about that paean to Bird that you wrote on another thread? You said that we need to go back to hear Bird, but yet here you say relating to life through yesterday's recordings is the equivalent of "looking at photo albums all day."
  22. Got the Legacy Edition of Round About Midnight, Brubeck's Carnegie Hall Concert, and the Great Mingus Concert, all for ~$27. Nice!
  23. Crap! I am still reeling from the switch from the $4.99 level. I feel a binge coming on...

Looks like a good duo. I should pick up that BRO-B issue of '77 Brotz/Bennink, too. Hot off the presses! Listening to that BRO-B disc at work right now! Weird coincidence! I ordered Brotzmann / Zerang disc yesterday. I am pretty certain I am going to be wiretapped by the CIA, ordering from a label who's name is the Arabic term for "the slaughterhouse."
