  1. Care to share that secret way in? As Marty Balin might say, "It's no Secret." Here's a quick link in to the MP3s: www.gdlive.com/dead Thanks! Going in from the homepage resulted in an error, but this lets me right in. The Mountains > Dark Star on that 4-22-69 show is AWESOME. Would have loved to heard Jerry play that acoutsic jam thing between the two for hours...

  3. What Chuck said. No imminent danger there. Kepp an eye on it an you should be fine. Hope your stay in the North Star state treated you well!
  4. Good policy, the wife-notes.
  5. Schlippenbach and Parker go so well together, I must say.
  6. I rather enjoyed that too. Due in large part, however, to Tina Fey's writing.
  7. It's pretty good for a boot, but I think a lot of cats would be pissed to find out that this was the real sound (especially considering how little we've heard from Ornette for a while)... Yeah, better sound than that boot from '68. It sounds like they had no bass players on that date...
  8. Destination Out has three cuts of it here. Pretty nice sound, too!
  9. I am curious too. I was a member about 10 years ago and the product was crap [b&W bootleg looking covers, etc]. Has that changed?
  10. I hope the new Grant Green release shows up quicker than those RVGs did.
  11. Top notch album. Love the cover, with "the thumb" on it.
  12. Hell yeah! There are some great jazz-related ones out there. I have been hipped to several cool records already, plus been treated to OOP Grant Green sides and some Mwandishi-era Herbie and Charles Lloyd live recordings.
  13. According to Apple's ipod website, a 2GB Nano will hold 500 songs (@ 4 mins apiece), or 2000 minutes worth of music. This translates to about 28 cds, assuming they are 70 minutes long. That means you could get roughly 4 Mosaic sets on there, if they are 7 disc sets. I plan on connecting relatively often to move things on and off. That way I get fresh podcasts and different albums often-er.
  14. Crazy! I just got my iPod Nano 2GB on Friday from amazon. I am looking forward to ripping my boxed sets and other items I don't like to carry around in a CD case. Mosaics, Anthology of American Folk Music, etc... 2GB seemed like the right size. We shall see. I bought one of the Xtrememac Microshield cases -- the clear one with the belt clip. Working well so far. the only thing it leaves open is the wheel[ and the top and bottom, of course.] How do you adjust the limiters, etc. on the volume?
  15. Beirut musician/blogger records improv to bombs falling. Link to the piece, on bass clarinet. Wow.
  16. I have heard the term "club jazz" used by a German DJ that hosts a podcast. He used it to describe a band I started a thread about some time ago, the unfortunately named "Soil and Pimp Sessions" collective from Japan. Hard driving, swinging minor modal number prevail. No electronics, from what I have heard, and solid solos. Think of a McCoy Tyner BN session from 1968. The funk is there, but not the pop-music kind. I would like to explore more of the scene, but as you have pointed out, the prices are more than prohibitive on my miniscule monthly music budget.
  17. How about the guitar brand Epiphone? Like epiphany or [epi-fone'] ?

  19. With the Fillmore Box selling out before its street date, I think they should definitely continue making CDs.
  20. I'm not opposed to this, not because I want to necessarily pick up JC posters (although of course they are welcome here... that goes without saying I hope) but because I like the idea of bringing a wider range of music discussion to the board. What should we call it? I think that is a great idea.
  21. Perfect label for it!

    Jimmy Giuffre

I picked up and then sold the Jaume / Giuffre duo on hatOLOGY, as it was not what I was hoping for. I have nothing but respect for the man for doing new and challenging things -- it just didn't catch my ear.

    Jimmy Giuffre

It is too bad that the man was under-recorded for so many years. Western Suite is in my top 10 of all time favorite albums.
  24. Thanks all! Me wife was good to me today:
  25. The Viola Lee smokes on there, too!
