  1. That Lonnie Smith disc is absolutely fantastic. $5 is a steal!
  2. Had a Tusker the other day. Mmm...Kenya...
  3. I think Ayler attributing some of his technique to R&B is more about vocabulary rather than the messages Ayler conveyed. His accent or dialect on the horn, maybe?
  4. Wait'll you hit disc five. Damn!
  5. Not even in the double digits. Lame!
  6. I am pretty sure I have never seen a non-promo copy. How strange is that? Almost as rare as a clean Blue Note early Rare Groove title.
  7. That is lame. I have learned the hard lesson that if you want the Blue Note material from BMG, buy it the second it is available.
  8. This one was a little to Sting-afied for mine ears. The production will sound dated in 5 years on some cuts, I am afraid. There is a better way to go about it than this. Cassandra's voice is honey, as always.

    The Yazoo Label

I have one of the volumes of the Shake Your Wicked Knees comps of the piano stuff. Killer. Why do they often release them as two full-priced volumes rather than a double? [The current release notwithstanding.]
  10. I have thought of this when it comes to photography. I have read that the prints made on home machines will not last as long, and, as confirmed in this article, digital storage of picture files is less permanent than one might think.
  11. This is spot on. Why is it that we hash this whole topic over every few months? We see the same shit every time. To expect another Marvin Gaye is like waiting for the next Bird. It ain't gonna happen. Culture evolves, as does the musical continuum. Remember Lincoln Logs? Man they don't make toys like they used to...
  12. Ron Carter for sure. I have always liked Jackie Mclean's sharp intonation...
  13. I use the blue one to gain endurance for guitar playing. You can also get callus builders for the fingertips as an add-on with these.
  14. uuuurrrrrrrrrrr. Guess mine will come Monday. Yup - came today. Listening to Disc 1 now. Smokin'. I am sitting here with a Grain Belt beer and disc 5. OMFG this is killer. C, glad you finally have this in hand! Yeah, I am pleased as punch. Worth the wait!

  16. Right Now! and New & Old Gospel. The second cut on New & Old Gospel nearly brings a tear to the eye. Such a happy melody, but so sad today with Jackie's departure...
  17. There is a Sam Goody going out of business walking distance from where I work. I bought an Epiphone EB-0 bass new in the box for $35.
  18. I don't think I could've gone through the shopping cart process any faster. I can't wait!
  19. Hell yeah. Get me a Gedney...it's the Minnesota pickle! I like 'em fried at the state fair. Hell yeah x 2.
  20. I will be checking the yourmusic.com site on the hour.
  21. All I want to know is if this will hasten or hinder the progress of yourmusic.com getting the Cellar Door box.
  22. The Electric Fetus is quite nice. Crazy selection of cut-outs that are mostly OOP. I would recommend the Minneapolis Institute of Art over the Walker all day long. While not as on the cutting edge as the Walker, you are going to get a much more rich experience at the MIA. Their permanent Asian art galleries are on par with the Smithsonian's collections. St.Paul's Como Conservatory recommendation will get another vote from me. I go every year. They have recently expanded. For dining, I would recommend the 112 Eatery in the Warehouse District in Minneapolis. http://www.112eatery.com/ It has made the top of everyone's list as the best thing, and at a reasonable price! For lunch you can stuff yourself for about $7 at the New Delhi lunch buffet. Top notch Indian food set up buffet style. http://www.newdelhimn.com/ If you dig sushi, Nami is the place to go. Great space, great food. http://www.namisushi.com/ By that time the Minneapolis Farmer's Market will be in session; it is good people watching and they have vendors with prepared foods ready-to-eat. Plus, you can buy that special someone some flowers there. http://www.mplsfarmersmarket.com/ I can recommend more things, food, entertainment, whatever. I will leave you with a hidden gem right in downtown Minneapolis -- Khazana. http://www.khazana.com/ This little shop specializes in antique Indian jewelry, tapestries, folk art, paintings, instruments etc. If you ask the nice gentleman that works there, he will take you into the basement -- it is the warehouse for their striking online Indian music store. You can browse while he makes recommendations. It is a small place, but quite unexpected. The lady that does the jewelry will tell you all of the stories behind the pieces, as she travels to the Subcontinent each year to buy all sorts of things. There is plenty to keep ya busy!

    Prestige RVGs

Curious thing with these: the back covers of these have been designed to emulate the look of Blue Note CD releases.
  24. So if we buy it from CD Universe you will get a cut from the disc and a cut from CD Universe? Or will that actually cause time/space to implode?
