  1. A guy I used to work with at the record store had that 45.
  2. Henry Grimes? I see he has another release out soon.
  3. I have a paralyzing fear of monkeys.
  4. And that Fahey release is top-notch! Decent sound, bizarre asides from Fahey, and superb versions of my favorite tunes of his.
  5. I'm going with "torquoise" for the extra "torque."

I must say that you are in for a treat! That Tal Farlow set is one of my all-time faves.
  7. Give me that new Neptunes-produced Snoop cut and I am set. Drop it like it's haut, drop it like it's haut...
  8. Listening to that Viktor Krauss album right NOW. It's great at any price!! Many "thumbs up" and highly recommended from me (FWIW). B-) BTW, for Frisell fans, he's all over this one. I will second that. I am picking up a least one copy for a gift this season. Is it just me, or does Frisell sound like David Gilmour [from Pink Floyd] in a couple of spots on there?
  9. This album is fab. When it came out I listened to it quite nearly every day. The sonorities of Surman's bass clarinet, Holland's bass, and the 'ud make for fine partners. One of my favorite cuts is the duo with Holland and Brahem.
  10. That MTV Unplugged thing is available on both CD and DVD, and features Oliver Lake & Julius Hemphill on a few cuts. I have always been into her since I heard Debut via the wife. Vespertine was a less of a favorite, and I have yet to hear Medulla. I did rent the DVD from Netflix that showed the making of the album. She did a couple of tracks for the Being John Malkovich soundtrack that were all-vocal [for the most part] and killer! I have been eyeing that Family Tree box for a while now. BMG has it for $15.99...
  11. That single made me want to go out and save the world myself! I would like to hear the rest of the album.
  12. Those two things, and out of habit! I rather like the mild taste on a daily basis, and I have some other bolder, more exotic teas for when I want something with more oomph.
  13. My Night of the Cookers Arrived on Friday, and I noticed something funny--the discs are not blue and white, but blue and silver, like the old CDs used to be. Is this the same for the in-store versions?
  14. As a daily fellow green tea drinker of many years, I must chime in with my recommendation for Ten Tea. They used to be knwon as Ten Ren Tea, but they dropped the "Ren" a couple of years ago for some reason or other. They have a super mail order and online operation. They website, as you might guess is http://tentea.com/. I can recommend many of their offerings, with two particular favorites: They have some whole-leaf tea bags, one with only green tea and another with green tea and Osmanthus flower. Fantastic! They have a great variety of products, from the average everyday teas in regular teabags [even their regular green tea is a treat every day!] to the more esoteric and expensive specialties. AND, lucky for you, they have retail outlets near your location; they have a store finder on the website.
  15. I have just received my copy of "On the Cobbles," John's most recent album. Since it was not released in the US I had to go the eBay way and pay $30 for it. I bought his 2000 album recently "Glasgow Walker" via eBay as well. Upon first listen, Glasgow Walker was a bit too smooth, with production being a bit heavy. Acouple of decent moody songs, but little of John's guitar. On the Cobbles is a totally different story. I was nervous after paying that much for it without being able to sample it. I feared I might be in for more of the same from Glasgow Walker. That was definitely not the case. The package arrived at work on a Friday afternoon [some way to finish a work week! ] I put it in the portable for my walk to the bus, and I was positively floored. This was a return to his top 70s form. His acoustic guitar playing is all over this record once again, and Danny Thompson even shows up on one cut. There is a bass player on the remainder of the album named Alan Thompson. Relative, perhaps?? Gone is the slick production, and back is John's distinctive growl. Mavis Staples even backs him on a chilling version of Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene."
  16. Hubbard's Night of the Cookers is backordered. d'oh
  17. Bill Murray in Lost in Translation or Rushmore.
  18. I wish I could be there! Bishop's stuff on the Wooden Guitar comp was super, and I gave a listen to Improvika in the record store the other day.

    The Necks

He uses a space in his name: La Monte Young. I must say the the Sun Ra chorus of "Space is the Place" started playing in my head when I read "space in his name"
  20. Do you mean the Big O of Overstock.com?
