  1. Today we have Night People-Mort Herbert-Savoy Two groups with Herbert on bass,Sahib Shihab alto & bari and Kenny Clarke drums in both groups. Group one has Don Stratton trumpet,Mike Cuozzo tenor and Ronnie Ball piano. Group two has Joe Wilder trumpet, Bobby Jasper tenor & flute and Dick Katz piano. By The Fireside-Paul Smith-Savoy Boss Bossa Nova-George Bohanon- Workshop Jazz This one is pretty much an all Motor City affair with George on pump, Kirk Lightsey piano, Joe Messina guitar,Cecil McBee bass (he was living in Detroit when this was recorded) and George Goldsmith drums and two prcussionists Bob Cousar and Henry Cosby. Just getting ready to listen to one called Chicago Scene on Argo. It features Ira Sullivan, Sandy Mosse and Jimmy Gourley among others.
  2. Depending how deep you are going to get into vinyl, you might consider one of the record cleaning machines on the market. Its a heafty outlay in cash, but really does the job. I have a Nitty Gritty 1.5 and would not trade it for anything. I still use my Discwasher, but only to run over the record before i put it through the Nitty Gritty. As far as pops go, if its not a scratch, you can sometimes get them out by using a baby hair brush which will loosen whatever is embedded in the groove.
  3. Marty, Im one of those old geezers that does not have a computer. My link to the net is with one of those little set top Web TV units, so i could not pop my originals into the computer, which ofcourse you are correct, would make a digital copy. The HHB has solved that problem. Now if i make a copy of something to trade, the person who gets it will also be able to make digital copies on a stand alone unit. I hope that clarifies what i meant by second generation copies.
  4. I also have an HHB Burnit and use it alot for putting vinyl over to cdr. It does an outstanding job. It has all the advantages that Lon mentions, however it also has some downside. It is a single drawer unit so if you want to copy a cd or cdr, you have to have another player. It only copies in real time so you cant speed record with it. In my case i also have two Harmon Kardon H2 double drawer burners so i can copy stuff up to 4x speed if need be. The downside to the HK's and i think every other stand alone have concerns second generation copies. If you make a copy of a copy it reverts to anolog because the units have copy guard bilt in. On the other hand except for a slight volume difference its hard to tell the differnce between the digital ad the anolog copies. I can recommend both the HHB and the HK depending on how you want to use it.
  5. Niether, its TALI by Tom McIntosh.
  6. Leeway, The Blues In Trinity album was recorded in Paris, not London and RVG was the engineer. The rest of the Reece BN's were done at Rudy's place. One date that comes to mind that was done outside the US during your time frame was the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Golden Eight lp which was done in Germany. Although he was not the recording engineer, RVG did master the date for BN. Then ofcourse there were the Ornette's done in Stockholm.
  7. I deal with Euclid alot and they are tops with me. Anytime i have had a problem, Joe has bent over backwards to fix it. Kevin, The reason those titles are still showing on their web site is because they only update their list about every ninty days.
  8. Lets not forget Miles. So What opens Kind Of Blue and Miles At Carnegie Hall and Four And More.
  9. I caught Joe Diorio several times when he would come through town with one of the Buster boys,Eddie as i remember. He never disappointed me. Joe was one of two guitar players i tried to never miss when they were in town, the other being Jerry Bird, who was with Gene Ludwig at the time.
  10. Allan, I could be wrong, but i seem to remember hearing that Mani pulled that stunt one night while with the Terry Gibbs Big Band. The way i heard it, Joe would stand up and direct the band during Terry's feature numbers. That was the way he gave them the signal that the song was ending one night while he had his back to the audience. The band broke up ofcourse and the audience and Gibbs had no idea what was going on. That's the way i heard it way back in the 60's. If its true or not, i don't know.
  11. Found two Bethlehem 10"ers Joe Puma-East Coast Jazz vol 3 and Wigsville by Dick Garcia. The Garcia is a reissue, but the Puma is an original.
  12. All over the place today. Clifford Jordan-Dr Chicago- Beehive The Beehive Sessions Unissued Tracks The Visitors-Rebirth-Muse The Visitors-Motherland-Muse Red Mitchell-Rejoice!-Pacific Jazz Ralph Burns-Bijou-Bethlehem Australian Jazz Quartet-Plus 1- Bethlehem Bobby Troup-The Distintive Style Of-Bethlehem w. Jimmy Raney I chuckled as i listened to the Troup. All these hip tunes coming out of that old geezer Doctor on Emergency. But i guess Julie wore him out before his time.
  13. Jim, If they put out the Trio side, they could put the two tracks,Buddy Boo and What Is There To Say, from the 10" version that never made it to the 12" as bonus tracks.
  14. Right on Mr Weil! Willims is also on a couple of the Slide Hampton Atlantic dates.
  15. Although not the leader, you can dig Richard on three excellent Gigi Gryce OJCs, Saying Somethin', The Rat Race Blues and The Happ'nin's. If you were around in the 60's, which maybe you were'nt, Richard Williams was not an unknown.
  16. Thanks Mike, that is what i needed to know. Thats one less thing to look for. Jim, Ive had that Mercury site bookmarked for sometime as i have worked on the Emarcy label. Ive also swiped a few covers along the way.
  17. The Limelight catolog listing i have shows that Les had two albums with Poo Boo in the title. I have Beaux J Poo Boo (86031), but have been racking my brain to remember what the Poo Boo(86025) album looked like. I seem to remember two albums, but at this point in my life, i don't even trust my memory. Could one of you gentlemen look this up on your cd roms and give me the info if there was in fact a 86025 and what was on it. Thanks in advance Bill
  18. A no brainer, Charles Mc Pherson
  19. More Bethlehem yesterday, The Amazing Sam Most The Australian Jazz Quintet Play The Music From The Three Penny Opera The Australian Jazz Quintet Play The Best Of Six Broadway Musical Hits The View From Jazzbo's Head- The 6 We Brought Our Axes- Hank D'Amico/Aaron Sachs
  20. Listened to some Bethlehems today while putting them on cdr. Mellophone-Don Elliott Flamingo-Herbie Mann The Jazz City Workshop-Marty Paitch The Australian Jazz Quartet Jazz For Beach-Niks-The Australian All Stars More to do tomorrow.
  21. I guess there are some advantages to being in ones 60"s. Growing up in Detroit i got to see all the Motor City guys when they would come home for vacations and such. Watkins, Chambers,Byrd,Pepper Adams, the Jones brothers and on and on. It was a pretty nice time to be coming up.
  22. It appears that My Kind Of Love only appears on Japanese issues of this album. There is a listing for a Japanese cd(AMCY1015)that also had My Kind Of Love plus all of the other tracks from Atlantic 1412.
  23. Now we need someone with an original stereo copy of 1412 to report the songs.
  24. Mike, If Lord is correct, it looks like in putting this package together for Collectables, Rhino put Loads Of Love on the cd, which was not on the original lp and left off My Kinda Love. It looks like somebody got their Loves mixed up.
  25. The only information i have is that it was recorded sometime in 1991.
