  1. I dunno, Shawn, the lovey dovey Bones and Booth show feels wrong to me. Maybe part of the lasting appeal of the show was the unconsummated mutual attraction of the two. Now that the bubble has burst it just feels as if something is amiss.
  2. Lost Heroes Of World War One - Channel Five Valuable, sobering and moving archive interviews with the remaining few from WW1, all of whom are now dead. An important historical achievement that tells it like it was and answers a lot of the questions I wanted to ask my own granddad but which he was reluctant to talk about.
  3. Boardwalk Empire In a show laden with misogynists, this chappy gets my vote for the creep in chief. Hell On Wheels Casting Colm Meany as the railway man was an excellent move, he's great. Very strong opener but I wonder how the fickle American viewers will take to it. As far as I'm concerned the more period dramas and westerns the better.
  4. An amazing picture of the Dalai Lama in a convenience store in Miyagi Ken, north east Japan. It's not a fake, he is here for Buddhist ceremonies for the tsunami-earthquake victims.
  5. Boss #3 My new favourite.
  6. This works. Download and install VLC media player freeware. Link here - My link Click ' video' on the toolbar, click 'aspect ratio' and select 4:3. This will play letterboxed films in full screen, of course they will look odd and squashed !
  7. Boss Wow, very impressive, I can't wait for this to unfold.
  8. BBC Frozen Planet Part 1 Fill in your own superlatives. Magnificent, stupendous, a visual feast of beautiful photography that rivals and maybe surpasses Planet Earth.
  9. Spooks, the grand finale.
  10. I always looked on Roger Moore as a waggish joke and could n't take him seriously. He probably got the role on the strength of 'The Saint' series, a role that suited him very well. For some reason Sean Connery has been elevated to the ultimate Bond. I suspect he finds this amusing and ironic, I know he wanted very much to escape the Bond stereotype. I must say that, for me at least, Daniel Craig is head and shoulders above all the competition as the definitive Bond, and the only one to be taken seriously.
  11. Great book. Off topic but the BBC adaption is one of the best Dickens series they have done.
  12. Enjoying some of The Mentalist S3. I like to slip these episodes in between serious films. I'm not sure why I find The Mentalist appealing. His laid back persona conceals a skillful analyst. He is a nice contrast to the horribly misjudged Tim Roth character (r.i.p.) in Lie To Me.
  13. I also use Imageburn or Power ISO for burning dvdr. For audio and MPEG4 I use CyberLink Power2Go which is problem free. I used to use Nero but stopped after encountering problems.
  14. This week's Prime Suspect.
  15. Breaking Bad As previously mentioned this seemed like and end to the story. It will be interesting to see where it goes next season.
  16. Yep, I think we all agree it was El Duffo. Part of the reason these crap episodes pop up is the inordinate length of US tv series, 22 episodes is far too many per season, the odds are that about a third will be rubbish. I much prefer the UK shorter running seasons, they seem more consistent and less prone to padding .
  17. Prohibition Part 3 An excellent and educational series with many points that still resonate today. Just substitute the 'dries' for the tea party crazies.
  18. Prohibition Part 2. Really interesting. House (in nick) I wonder where they will go with this ? Fringe A poor episode, definitely a filler.
  19. Prohibition Ken Burns Episode 1 Rather dry ( ) but an excellent history lesson.
  20. Homeland Manchurian Candidate wannabee but the production and cast were very good. I liked it. Breaking Bad Continues to enthrall. Pan Am Ugh, lemeoutahere ! The Mentalist. I always enjoy this show and the new season is no exception.
  21. Breaking Bad For me this now deservedly joins the upper echelons of tv series with The Wire, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under. This week's episode was something else.
  22. Me too, I enjoyed it as usual but think the title is redundant. How about The Delectable Divorcee ? Coming up next, this week's Breaking Bad.
  23. Young Soldiers -BBC3 Episodes 1 & 2 Sandhurst - BBC4 Episode 1 Great Thinkers In Their Own Words - BBC4 Episode 1 All excellent, some of the best documentaries I've seen in a while
  24. Prime Suspect No way Jose, a remake of the classic, off with their sacrilegious heads ! Well I'll eat a modest portion of humble pie, it wasn't a remake although it borrowed a few plot items, and admit to really enjoying the show. I hope they keep up the good work.
