  1. I've got a lot more than 3000 cds and cdr, plus another couple of thousand dvds. Living in a small Tokyo apartment I finally had to take radical action, as I literally ran out of space to store the stuff. My solution was simple, I dumped all the jewel cases and dvd boxes, put everything in paper covers, inserted into the cd booklets, made an Excel a-z list and put everything into storage boxes which are kept under the bed, on top of wardrobes and any other space available. It's not an elegant solution, and one that would probably not be acceptable to anyone living in a bigger place, but I does work quite well.
  2. Bet that resolution soon bites the dust, the new season of Damages has just started !
  3. Curb Your Enthusiasm Great start, few shows keep up CYE's level of gag writing for season after season.
  4. Treme S2 finale. Nicely done, loved the choice of last song. Luther S2 finale.
  5. Occasionally. JB's Doing It To Death and Papa Don't Take No Mess always hit the spot.
  6. Hang in there mate, true grit etc. If it's any consolation I arrived in Tokyo in 1976 literally penniless, no kidding I had to beg ten yen to make a phone call! It's not easy uprooting yourself and setting up in another place. At least you are in your own country and speak the language.
  7. This week's Luther. Heavy duty !
  8. Thinking it's really hot, 36.8C and very humid.
  9. Great show, thanks for the heads up on the new season. I didn't know it was due to start. Like your Third Man avatar.
  10. Tell me about it brother. My mom went into care for a year and a half before she died. My sister in law bore a deep grudge against me for not 'doing more', rather hard from the other side of the world. One thing led to another resulting in my brother and I having what looks like a permanent falling out. The whole family went to pieces when she died.
  11. He was great and his passing is sad. The mannerisms and character quirks he introduced in the Columbo role must have inspired a generation of would be tv sleuths. Loved him in The In Law's too. One of my wife's favourite movies.
  12. I got tired of the short life and problems of cd players a few years ago. I started using dvd players at home and at work and have had zero problems. The one at work which is used for playing language cds and gets heavy use is a cheap Mitsubishi dvd player but I've had nothing but faultless playback from it for the past few years. At home I switched to a Pioneer dvd player and an old Pioneer cd recorder which is built like a tank with a heavy tray and great sound. I doubt I'd ever be tempted to fork out for a new expensive cd deck again. Incidentally almost everyone I know here now uses a dvd player for cd playback.
  13. The final episode of The Shadow Line. Full of surprises. Stephen Rea as Gatehouse was a memorable evil doer.
  14. The Capitol stuff Come Fly With Me Songs For Young Lovers/Swing Easy Songs For Swingin' Lovers Sinatra's Swingin' Session In The Wee Small Hours Close To You And More Come Swing With Me Collectors Series (Singles) Come Dance With Me Sings For Only The Lonely Where Are You ? Nice N' Easy
  15. Off topic. Sheffield United. I was never a football fan. The ritual of ten pints on a Friday night and the match on Saturday afternoon was enough to make anyone a jazz and blues listening drop out and I suspect fellow macho culture haters formed the underpinnings of the whole 60's rock scene in UK.
  16. Wow, and here's me thinking I was the last surviving mobile phone Luddite. I'm gratified fellow cell phone haters.
  17. I'm the proud non owner of a mobile phone. The ever dwindling number of public phones will eventually compel me to get one but as a matter of principle I'm going to hold out as long as possible.
  18. Scott & Bailey ITV Eps 1 & 2 Spiffing, realistic screenplay and excellent performances all round :tup .
  19. Injustice - ITV Episode 4 I'm enjoying this a lot. Case Histories BBC - Episode 2 Some good stuff on UK tv these days, I might even check out the books on the strength of the first two episodes. Very good.
  20. Frontline - Post Mortem Fascinating and shocking.
  21. I'm sorry to hear of your situation, I gathered that things haven't been good for you from recent posts. I hope things take a turn for the better. All the best.
