  1. My Murray is faulty, too - crap! Just sent a mail. Has anyone received replacements yet? Are they okay?
  2. you used up your picture allowance
  3. just finished the wonderful "Native Dancer" (had never heard it before!) and now started "Atlantis"... rather a shock, soundwise... but I guess I'll stick with it and spin the rest (skipping the WR compilation discs)
  4. Not sure this is the right thread, but... I've been pissed by newbury comics lately, quite some. Isn't it official amazon policy that marketplace vendors aren't to make any profit from shipping fees and stuff? Anyway, newbury offers many discs twice, once for US only and at good prices, and then in a second listing for international customers, with a price that's some 20$ higher! I know, that's NOT making profit of shipping fees really, but still... sucks bigtime. Example? http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000000YI5/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&storeAttribute=m&qid=1327156554&sr=1-3&submit.see-all-buying-options=see-all-buying-options&condition=all wtf!? Got to add that I was a regular customer and always more than satisfied before they went US-shipping-only... and now I'm just pissed by them.
  5. Can't they shut down Disney for not releasing the Jack Johnson film?
  6. You got to get "At Last" or some best of with old sides on it then, at least!
  7. LA Times obit: http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-etta-james-20120121,0,1608543.story r.i.p. Will spin some of her tunes later on... sad, but not unexpected after the recent news on her health.
  8. Yeah! No reason not to get them, plenty of reasons to get them!
  9. r.i.p. Johnny Otis Got to spin that fine Pres date again with him on the drums!
  10. Isn't every trombone rekkid kind of a solo rekkid since dem bones play in their own world, kind of? Seriously, that Rutherford disc is great! Got to look into more of his stuff!
  11. Any idea where that link should have led? Goes nowhere now - would be interested in it!
  12. No voice - it's an instrumental reading of the Tao Suite. I guess that puts it up a few steps on the wantlist - thanks!
  13. Though I bet Shirley Horn could have easily counted it in half notes... and still be slower than y'all! Most interesting discussion here!
  14. Not sure if the Mosaic was still around when I started buying (must have been around 1996, roughly). I would most welcome a second volume from JSP, too!
  15. The one I really have sound issues with is the Lucky Thompson...
  16. sorry about your loss, aloc
  17. Yeah, they're okay - but sound is an issue in some cases. As for Shorty, get the JSP set covering his early years - the music is in many cases better than the latter, more formulaic RCA albums. The Mosaic covered the middle grounds there - some very good playing on it, too! Then there was "Where the Four Winds Blow", which I think followed the sessions included in the Mosaic. That one's amazing, too! Great Giuffre clarinet on many of those sessions!
  18. Made my way through Sarah Vaughan's Mercury recordings lately... right now into disc 3 of the final box. Great stuff! I love the poppy things, too - her voice is just... well, divine ;-)
  19. That's great news! (less great is that my disc of the concert with Wright is badly scratched - I was able to rip it but can't play it any longer... these nice-looking mini-lp things and plastic sleeves really aren't all that great sometimes!) Which Gwigwi? This one? Never came around buying it... looks good if the line-up is an indication! Get it. Since this is up there... I got this disc in the meantime (just a few weeks after the quoted posts) - and it's indeed very good!
  20. Is the Lacy just "wordless" or "voiceless", too? The site list's Aebi but on cello, so there's some hope...
  21. Ayler - Holy Ghost The final discs with the Saint-Vence material and the fascinating interviews... and the airport tape - wonder what had happened there? anyone knows? And what about that "Ed Sullivan" gig they act like it was scheduled to take place the next day? And wtf is Mr. Heidecker? Heineken? Wow, never seen this one. Gonna have to keep a look out for it. There's a second one that seems to pop up even less often... between the two of them you get what Sony failed to bring forth again in 2004 for the Basie centennial.
  22. That article was already mentioned in the thread about Jack Nimmitz' ABC session - Zieff was in touch with some folks back then, roughly same time frame (2007/08) (fine disc that one, btw!)
  23. the stereo version of "Dave Digs Disney" is of course part of the Legacy Edition of that album (which came out last year)
  24. Oh well, Pepl/Pirchner's was certainly not music that everyone would immediately be hooked on! The radio broadcast of Griffin's cuts off "Soft and Furry" alas. And yes, "Jean-Marie" by pianist Mathews is indeed a waltz, as far as I remember.
  25. guitar-vibes - Pepl-Pirchner? They were great! (partial?) Griffin setlist - this amounts to a 74min radio broadcast: Autumn Leaves Jean-Marie (Mathews) Sophisticated Lady Fifty-Six Soft and Furry line-up was: Johnny Griffin (ts), Ronnie Mathews (p), Ray Drummond (b), Kenny Washington (d)
