  1. Got mine yesterday and just did a quick comparison of the tracks in question - all seems okay now!

Anyone has a rough guess about the date of the three tracks?
  3. That sounds very cool, Allen! Still got to catch up with your last one, though
  4. indeed , my LP edition sounds better slowed down to about 30 rpm, I find it hard to tell when I've adjusted the speed to the correct point !!! I think it's somewhere about a semitone sharp, but I'm not sure, would have to check... couldn't tell you in RPMs, but maybe could find out how to fix WAV files correctly if I can locate my files...
  5. The Amsterdam set is out on Lonehill - but as all commercially available versions, it runs at wrong speed (considerably fast) and that ruins it quite a bit (Klook sounds horrible mostly!)
  6. Oh, yes, that Farmer's a beaut! There's also this one with Dizzy the sole soloist (you reminded me of it, Michael, since both came out on CD in the "Verve Elite Edition"):
  7. Happy Birthday, Clifford!
  8. Half of what's been mentioned is more like "mid-size group with soloist(s)", isn't it? Here's one more:
  9. There are several other omissions, and some silly duplicates of officially released material (the Paris 1949, the Lighthouse set, the set with Jimmy Forrest) that come rather uncalled for... but hey, you get a large chunk on factory pressed CDs, and the price is right (I got mine from amazon.fr for just under 30€ and free shipping).
  10. I've written an article on Cole Porter and Ella Fitzgerald... and it would be cool to be able/allowed to quote from Fred Lounsberry's wonderfully lucid analysis that formed part of the liner notes of "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book" (Verve MG V-4001-2). Anyone knows anything about Mr. Lounsberry?
  11. Then Florida state must be dumb...

http://www.jazzarcheology.com/artists/tony_fruscella.pdf Can't find anything on any Sam Heltzer, but maybe that's a trace?
  13. Guess there'd be some examples on the lovely "Zep Tepi" disc, too? Saw the trio live a couple of years ago and it was magnificient. Blake was especially wonderful, very joyous and playful... he played seated on a barstool and the bass looked like a little cello in his hands...
  14. Lava lamps or Benny Lava videos on youtube? I'd rather get the next batch of Black Saint/Soul Note boxes instead!
  15. Went on to disc 6 of the Sassy set yesterday and gave "Sings Soulfully" several more listens - wonderful! Now discs 7 and 8.
  16. Mine are on the way, according to Francois L. Les miens aussi
  17. Really? Why so? Because much of it is important and some of you guys are old enough to have been around when it came out first, I guess?
  18. Happy Birthday, Nate!
  19. I'd have bought way more, had they seen wider distribution (or been available at all)... but as others say, not all of us go as far back In my younger days, I was busy collecting Coltrane, Miles, OJCCDs, Mosaics... and you know, these Black Saints - when they did show up behind the mountains here, they would cost at least 30 or even 35 dollars, so go figure... Anyway, I'm definitely a fan of these new boxes, got them all, yet I still have to absorb some of the music...
  20. I never had JJ but have got two BB-boxes as well as the 2CD edition (which I got because of the darnded glue issue with disc one of the BB 4CD box). IASW, I gave away... same with OTC (alas - I know it's also in the box, but I kind of would like to have it separately nevertheless... vinyl would be even cooler though!) Same here, albeit I don't go as far back... it was the first (I think) electric Miles album I ever owned (the old french 2CD version "Jazz Originals", produced by Henri Renaud) and I've loved it since I was... I guess 14? Got the digipack version and hung on to it after the Cellar Door box appeared. The original album is still mostly very good to my ears! He's no J.D., but I really love what I've heard from the Fall 1971 European tour (Ndugu-Mtume-Alias are a great percussion section), and hope that's the basis of a box in the bootleg series to come. I really, really hope for a bootlegt set from the 1971 European tour, too! Love all those concerts and among the mass of ROIOs, it would be cool to have some sort of authoritative selection on real CD.
  21. I'll be listening to that one soon!
  22. Swiss Krizzly would certainly help getting those cookies out of your system!
  23. I'm into disc five now... rather sharp contrast between "Soulfully" and the singles just after that... but I love all of you, ahm, it... I can fully endorse any negative comments though - but hey, it's darn Sarah Vaughan and her voice is the voice of angels (at least when she sings, seems when she talked it wasn't...)
  24. Okay, so it's the TRACKS that are wrong, not the booklet... darn amazon folks should learn some English, methinks! Thanks Salvatore - will check my discs later! Edit: just checked my discs... and sent in my mail!
  25. Yeah, I get the same Swiss telecom ads I get all over where I browse... I've got my mobile phone contract with them already, so bugger off! @Jim: no problem at all having a few ads here! Hope it makes a bit of a financial difference, after all!
