  1. No, Hutcherson was booked to replace Bags in an all stars tour (w/Hank Jones, Kenny Burrell, Ray Brown and Mickey Roker) and was visibly bored and uninterested in what the others were playing (Jones and Burrell were great though). But back to Tyner... saw him last year in quartet w/Bartz - and both of them were great!
  2. Ah well, I remember having seen Hutcherson and he sucked. That sucks, too...
  3. I still need to find that Spotlite LP pictured above... but in the meantime, I got the Jasmine CD containing the full two 1963 Chicago broadcsts: Coleman Hawkins Live from the London House Chicago, Ill (Jasmine JASMCD 2521) Spinning it right now and Hawk is in fine shape!
  4. Happy Birthday, Tom!
  5. well, Maggie could return...
  6. See post #339 for contents! Or here, larger and straight from the source: Put in pre-orders for all of them!
  7. I'm holding out for a total collapse of the Euro. Ha... just consider the pound may join in on the downward slope
  8. first sighting of the next batch on amazon: http://www.amazon.fr/Don-pullen-albums-originaux-remasterises/dp/B0065HDMA2/ http://www.amazon.fr/Mal-waldron-quintets-albums-originaux/dp/B0065HDLJE/ http://www.amazon.fr/Jimmy-giuffre-albums-originaux-remasterises/dp/B0065HDLYO/ http://www.amazon.fr/Albums-Originaux-World-Saxophone-Quartet/dp/B006BHP30S/ prices even seem a bit lower than usual...
  9. Got to check my Murray set, too - as I've had half of it before, I was in no hurry to listen yet... thanks!

Thanks - forgot to look there... DUH!
  11. "Hot Buttered Noodling"? That goes straight to the favorite album titles list, along with "Never Pat a Burning Dog" (as if we didn't know THAT!)
  12. Got the Stuff Smith (glorious!) in time... also the two wonderful VeeJays!
  13. I'd rather see the Basie Roulette Studio or the Commodores make such a zombie reappearance Fabulous set, of course, the Bix/Tram/Tea - carpe diem!
  14. The weird Select? It's a nice gesture and I might buy it in the end, but it's really not necessary... there'd have been better groups of work in Lucky's discography to present in a Mosaic box! The news on the Hawkins is great, of course! The more I hear and read about it, the more I want it! Wasn't entirely sure in the beginning, but the more additional tracks they find, the more exciting it gets!
  15. Happy Birthday!
  16. Got mine yesterday and just did a quick comparison of the tracks in question - all seems okay now!

Anyone has a rough guess about the date of the three tracks?
  18. That sounds very cool, Allen! Still got to catch up with your last one, though
  19. indeed , my LP edition sounds better slowed down to about 30 rpm, I find it hard to tell when I've adjusted the speed to the correct point !!! I think it's somewhere about a semitone sharp, but I'm not sure, would have to check... couldn't tell you in RPMs, but maybe could find out how to fix WAV files correctly if I can locate my files...
  20. The Amsterdam set is out on Lonehill - but as all commercially available versions, it runs at wrong speed (considerably fast) and that ruins it quite a bit (Klook sounds horrible mostly!)
  21. Oh, yes, that Farmer's a beaut! There's also this one with Dizzy the sole soloist (you reminded me of it, Michael, since both came out on CD in the "Verve Elite Edition"):
  22. Happy Birthday, Clifford!
  23. Half of what's been mentioned is more like "mid-size group with soloist(s)", isn't it? Here's one more:
  24. There are several other omissions, and some silly duplicates of officially released material (the Paris 1949, the Lighthouse set, the set with Jimmy Forrest) that come rather uncalled for... but hey, you get a large chunk on factory pressed CDs, and the price is right (I got mine from amazon.fr for just under 30€ and free shipping).
  25. I've written an article on Cole Porter and Ella Fitzgerald... and it would be cool to be able/allowed to quote from Fred Lounsberry's wonderfully lucid analysis that formed part of the liner notes of "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book" (Verve MG V-4001-2). Anyone knows anything about Mr. Lounsberry?
