new voice of consent? Got to dig up that Patterson twofer, Jim - that one smokes!
  2. Happy Birthday!
  3. I've heard that Black Lion LP, Allen - got to do some digging... and you got to explore some prime Tubby some day! As for food... I've got a continental stomach
  4. First time I got around to listening to this... got it in that modest sale, nearly a year back - gee! Guess I'll love it, warts and kitsch and all! Haven't heard nearly as much Vaughan as I need to!
  5. Wouldn't there be a possibility for another Mosaic Select, collecting all the Impulse trio material? Seems only Yale has appeared completely (on the "Trio Live" CD which I'm spinning right now). The complete 1973 Molde, Norway concert is also on Trio Live. That's just 20 minutes... is it the complete concert or just all that has ever been released (and/or is known to have survived)?
  6. Is he sure about the "have been remastered with loving care and deliver sterling sound" part regarding those cheapo reissues? I've got the Tubby and it doesn't bother me... but I were to champion a few recent reissues/found bits, I'd go with the Tubby discs that have appeared on Candid (Tubby's New Groove) and Savage Solveig (Dancing in the Dark - The Tubby Hayes Archives Vol. 2) - both among my favorite jazz releases of the past year! Furthermore, there's also "Complete Recordings 1958-59" by Tommy Whittle (no longer sold direclty by amazon UK it seems, although only released in May 2011). And finally, the entire "London Jazz Quartet" album is part of both the Tubby Hayes 3CD set (from last year and previously discussed here) and has been reissued separately, as well. To me, it seems a bit of a stretch to use just these recordings to make the (valid) point about neglect of UK jazz. I'd look elsewhere... and if was about Tubbs, I'd put the stress on recordings from a few years later!
  7. previous thread:
  8. Sounds great - assuming it's a one-time payment for the add-on, that is... no need for you to burden any additional on-going cost!
  9. catching up... (another badly clem-ified thread here, it seems) Got the CD as a gift from my dad recently and enjoy parts of it very much - the 70s parts, that is... the opening "Spanish Key" is great, even though Rooney's Miles-isms do get a bit boring over time. But the groove's there, and Michael Henderson is great on "Ife". And Gary Bartz is smokin', too! (And Vince Wilburn Jr. still sucks.)
  10. What the hell is that supposed to mean: "an issue with the tracklisting"? What will hence be replaced? The book and the cardboard covers containing the discs? With my set, it's like this: Disc 3 #20 is given as "I Let a Tear Fall in the River" Disc 11 #4 is given as "Lonesome Gal" Disc 11 #7 is given as "Two Little Men in the Flying Saucer" Disc 11 #8 is given as "Because of the Rain" Disc 11 #10 is given as "Even As You and I" Same info on covers and in the book. Now what? Does anyone understand what's the issue? Do I suffer from defective product? Does the mistake just concert the "tracklisting" or are there in fact wrong tracks on the CDs? And if it's the later, why don't they say so?
  11. "Home Coming" is of course stone classic! "Manhattan Symphonie" is very good as well, "Sophisticated Giant" is a lovely album with mid-size group and some lush arrangements, then there's the meetings... the two long jams with Griffin from Carnegie Hall might not be that great, but they're great FUN! I recently got "Gotham City" on vinyl and I think I've got them all now... will have to check the details of that box though. Oh, and the "Round Midnight" material - in case it's included (it used to run under Herbie Hancock) is very good, too, at least some of it (Dexter isn't on all tracks, his are all good).
  12. Got to know from a reliable source that Mr. Jarman is doing better. Seems he still has some troubles with his memory and is doing therapy (speech and physical). Best wishes for a full recovery!
  13. Well, I'd be all for it, but then the loss of thread subtitles might indeed be bothersome to many as well.
  14. The Complete Count Basie Vol. 1-10 1936-1941 - LP1
  15. Sam Rivers & Mario Schiano - Rendez-Vous
  16. Ahem, sorry Dan - seems I mis-read: the way I understand it, there'd be tags underneath each thread (not for each post). Everyone (not just a thread originator) can add tags.
  17. I'd say yes, Dan! If you want the main threads, do a title search (or do a search via google, putting in "[search text] site:organissimo.org"). If you want to find "hidden" discussions (such as the Pete Brown one I mentioned - I once had to look for it and it drove me crazy... thought I'd remembered in what thread it was, but it took me a while...), you can go via tags. Of course the funny guys amongst us (me included) might add funny one-liners instead of artist names, albums, sensible keywords etc... but I'd still think it would be most useful!

  19. Tags would allow to "index" (in a way) off-topic things, too... and they could be added by any registered user (though if that's so, there might be some clean-up work necessary... on the other hand if only moderators could put in tags, that would be of little use, as it would mean much work or not make a big difference). But again, that's only an option if Jim can just check the "use tags" feature somewhere!
  20. Happy New Year to y'all! Hope 2012 may bring joy and happiness... and excitement and exhaustion and passion and pain and sadness and whatever belongs to any good year.
