  1. Yeah, I've had a real copy of "Surrounded" for a while now - very good disc! Too bad about Humair's accident. Here's hope for a quick recovery!
  2. Roscoe bent out of shape, too?
  3. The Amazon UK pre-release price that I took advantage of was pretty good (about £35 I think). Just checked... my (later cancelled) Amazon UK order said 44£ (including a bit for shipping, minus, I guess, some taxes). Went for 50€ (all inclusive, again minus taxes) with Amazon France, instead. Back then that made quite a difference.
  4. All morning long: Oscar Peterson - The Songbooks Now just started with: Oscar Peterson - The London House Sessions
  5. Don't know that one... don't often buy bottles, but we get half a dozen single malts in every better bar or restaurant here, and many of the other places have at least one or two... Oban is a good one that's easy to get, Talisker a particular favorite, but there are so many... I'm not expert enough to brag, I just taste different ones when I get a chance and enjoy! Oh, and I do know Glenfiddich, of course - but just the regular one (which I always thought was blended?)
  6. I prefer mellow Irish or Scotch of all kinds (including peaty ones). But that's not why I abused your thread for "digression (coherence is overrated)" purposes (for which I apologize), I swear...
  7. I've never used make-up so far... and if you're dry, I recommend you use some lubricants
  8. Whoah, that's crazy! Guess it's a wise thing to do, or else the Hank fans will steal your children.... or some such
  9. There's a plane taking off somewhere during Don Ellis' live album from Monterey (during an announcement, I think).
  10. Well, you can invade it... most of them don't even close their doors if Michael Moore didn't lie about that...
  11. Yes indeed: Source is McMillan's Mogie chronology
  12. Very nice! (But whenever I try to turn up the volume, the image will freeze while the sound goes on... how annoying!)
  13. I love the older CD reissue of "The Sorcerer", which added the half of "More Sorcery" that was taken from the same live recording. The other half has to be good, too... and I guess I'll buy it again, just for that fourth of it that I don't have yet!
  14. Got that one thanks to your recommendation, Larry - very good indeed! The cover does seem to be different in the version I have, though: Guess that here's what you have: Mine's a European edition/pressing.
  15. really, really complete.... as in thirteen of these boxes like they did three of Django? :excited:
  16. Got it for x-mas... but haven't really come far with listening yet. Would wish for the expensive Gainsbourg box to appear at such a great price one day... but I guess I got to spend more for that (and am not sure I really need it, as I have half or more on a dozen single discs).
  17. Got Murray and Braxton today, expecting Lacy and Konitz tomorrow!
  18. About to finish disc 6 now... plan to play the whole box today! Makes for fantastic listening (though I'm working and not listening attentively... I'm sure it pays off to do that, Stitt seems in great form all through so far!)
  19. Went on with this one... into CD4 by now - great!
  20. The Complete Roost Sonny Stitt Studio Sessions - CD1
  21. The Griffin-Mobley is definitely radio - rather good quality but it wouldn't be enough for a CD (I have 36 minutes including stage intro and announcer talk... some music is cut, too. Bet there'd be more in someone's vault (maybe even in some radio station's vault, but lots of stuff has been destroyed since those days). Anyway, we're talking of 1969-09-01 in Cologne, Germany. There are three tunes on the first/main source plus one more from Italian radio. The Copenhagen material has been around - don't think anyone would release (other than RLR or some other such enterprise) though, sound isn't really good. It's from March 1968 and a little bit too much to fit onto two CDs.
  22. Having a closer look, these are a bit more complete (with some live recordings) than I initially thought, but still not enough music there that I don't already have, I think.
  23. Gee, am I the only one here who likes Zim Ngqawana's music? Anyway, bumping this thread again as I'm having my third go at the recent Blue Notes/Frank Wright disc, Spiritual Knowledge and Grace: It's really growing on me - very intense, powerful music. Not as warm, sunny and swinging as much of the ZA jazz I love so much, but there's still a lot of warmth in there - and a whole lot of intensity! The horns of Dudu and Frank lock up in some great playing - really a joy to hear! Makes me hope the promised future release from this tour ("the Blue Notes proper", as David Ilic's minimal CD liners say) will really happen! Btw, who's this David Ilic? I see he's written a few things for The Wire, but is he involved with Ogun in any way?
  24. I sort of grew to like them... they're cool and of their time, but they're (in my humble opinion) far from being major artistic statements. "Deaf Dumb Blind" is my top one, "Thembi" and "Live at the East" the runners up, and "Karma" on fourth rank. The new reissue is good to have as it combines two of the better ones of Sanders' later Impulse albums. Totally agree with you though, Clifford: "Village" is cool, with some really good things (the suite giving the album its name!), while "Wisdom" is a more rambling effort... I think a well-selected CD of these albums (also including "Love in Us All", which has a highlight in "To John") could result in a terrific compilation. But there's quite a lot of rambling going on... again, it's of its time and that's good, but it doesn't really hold up for repeated listening nowadays.
  25. Creed Taylor's handwriting, I guess...
