  1. I have tons of RVGs but then someday sort of stopped "upgrading"... If anyone wants my old "Demon's Dance"... I will keep "Money Jungle" in both versions though, somehow the old one sounds warmer and fuller to me, but the new one has more music... also I didn't update all of the Chet Baker discs, though because the programming is different, that's a nuisance... but this is off topic anyway.
  2. Will get the Threadgill set for sure! Got the Lyons discs on their own last year, so I won't need a box (five of them, right? Two by groups, two w/Cyrille and "Nuba"? Or was there anything else?) What I would be very happy to see: Andrew Hill, Max Roach... and maybe some of the freer stuff? Lowe, M.R. Abrams...
  3. Wasn't the box used by the youngster for drawing on, or something like that? (makes me shudder just thinking about it). What are you so fussy about, it's just a black box, after all I do remember that "incident" as well...
  4. If the info here is accurate (I bet it is!), "What's New" is a trio feature! (See my post #29 above) I thought #1 on the third disc was "Come Rain Or Come Shine"... just played it again and think it might well be, but they play some other kind of head. The chord progressions though sound like "Come Rain..." to my ears. I'm not 100% sure though... what would you say #1 on the third disc is, Bill? #1 Disk 3 Angel Face #1 Disk 4 Angel Face Hank Jones trio selection is Azure in Ellington Medley,Whats New (Thompson's Selection is omitted) Oh, crap! Didn't know that, thought I finally had those sessions complete!

Yes, I have the Conn, it's excellent. Also have a vinyl of Fresh Sound's reissue of "A Tribute to the Greats". Should look for the other Bethlehems, too!

  7. Not much love for the Q on this board, I'm afraid, but I like it a lot (and so does brownie, to my best of knowledge)!
  8. Well, I'm guilty of creating one partial Capitol set, too... one of the disc had something that looked like a tiny little bit of air on the surface and one track was unplayable, so they sent me a replacement disc. I assume that's another reason for these partial sets coming into existence.
  9. Not going ape-shit about it but I like Lee Morgan's "The Rajah" quite some!
  10. Oh, that's interesting! I played this late at night on speakers, so I was listening at a low volume and really had a hard time figuring out the instruments. I could hear the two trumpets (there are some nice echoing passages), and I could hear the valve trombone as well, but I'd not have guessed that Few was thumping out these bass lines with the helps of the bass drum - very cool! Shepp's piano on "I Should Care" is indeed mighty enjoyable!
  11. I think I'll finally get the Stitt and add the Chambers and two more Singles to add up to 200$... will see...
  12. If they have two copies... I think I should start a vinyl wantlist finally... I won't start hunting, but standing there and being in doubt whether or not to buy is an! But I'll just buy any other Newton I'll see...
  13. Gee Mosaic should do a Select with these Shepp Americas! So what's the correct line-up of "Coral Rock" anyway? Shepp (ts) - (my guess: ts on side A only, p on side B) Lester Bowie (t) Alan Shorter (flh) Clifford Thornton (vtb) Bobby Few (p - prob. on side A only?) Bob Reid (b) ? (b) (arco playing on side A?) Muhammad Ali (d) Djibril (cga) Ostaine Blue Warner (perc) Anyone can add/correct?
  14. Gee, be glad you don't have direct democracy, or these morons would start a campaign to abolish female genitals!
  15. Happy Birthday, Conrad! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDIY7wp7CBQ
  16. will have to look for this one eventually... fell in love with Kuhn's playing last year, but so far never came around to buying this one (and many others... all those darn japanese discs costing half a fortune...)
  17. Not sure what you're pointing at, but I hope it's not me.
  18. It's been almost three years since I first wanted to order this set, but for some reason I kept delaying my order. Finally pulled the trigger today, yay! You won't regret that!
  19. The Milt Jackson was GRP in jewel case, wasn't it? Same for some others (See You At the Fair, Sanders' "Tauhid", Shepp's "On This Night", the Lionel Hampton, Billy Taylor's "My Fair Lady"...) some more info, using shrdlu's list - just going from my collection and from memory, it's not complete! 20. Found James Newton's "Paseo Del Mar" - halfway through my first listen now - the overdubbed solo piece is very fascinating!
  21. If the stylus remains in the run out groove, then in theory, no damage will be done. However, on more than one occasion, I have seen the stylus actually exit the run out groove and begin brushing up against the record label. That is not a good thing under any circumstances. Bottom line, I'd characterize the tone arm lifter as one of those better safe than sorry devices. I've turned over every rock I can find on the internet and, while there's lots of discussion about lifters, actually finding one is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. Even if you do, the cost is outrageous: http://cgi.ebay.com/Alphason-Automatic-Tonearm-Lifter-RARE-NOS_W0QQitemZ150422640664QQcmdZViewItemQQptZTurntable_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2305e35818#ht_500wt_1182. With more and more people either getting into or getting back into vinyl, it surprises me that someone hasn't recognized this opportunity and taken advantage of it. I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Hopefully, sooner than later. If I had even a rudimentary knowledge of metal fabrication, I'd give this a go myself. Ah, I see - that makes sense then!
  22. Reissueing the hatOLOGY titles in the same series still seems silly to me. Why don't they just get 3000 more pressed and sell them as "2010 2nd Edition" or what it says on the back covers, instead of giving them new numbers? I'm a bit pissed because I went places and spent money for several of those that will now be reissued, too... I didn't expect this to happen some years ago (was Shipp's "Multiplication Table" the first one to be duplicated with new catalogue number?) The Ayler Berlin/Stockholm will be a first legit release of live material that was part of the Ayler tree. (Or was is it in the Revenant Box, too?) On the positive side, it's very good to get "Garden" back (I never managed to find it), and also the Braxton 4CD set!
  23. Can you explain this CD-age guy here why the run-out groove would damage the needle? I can see that it will wear it down if you let it run for an hour, but why would it do any damage?
  24. Hat is just one label, with various series of releases (such as currently hatOLOGY and hat[NOW]art). Would love to have "Push/Pull", too! Got "Jump Up" on CD some years ago - excellent one!
