  1. One of my all time favorites. I'd give my left nut to live in that house for a week!
  2. Love this session! I've owned the CONN for awhile and I recently treated myself to a nice Mono vinyl copy. That's really the way to hear this baby. For those that don't have HEAVY SOUL, that's almost a companion piece to IMAWBS since the line-up is identical.
  3. You may be right. Can these guys tell if you're going to get adequate reception without mounting the thing to your house?
  4. I just moved and was planning to get DirectTV. However, the previous homeowner told me that the guy behind me who has it is constantly on his roof adjusting the dishes. I opted for cable instead, at least for now. I've been in the house for a little over a week and sure enough, I've seen the guy behind me up on his roof fiddling with the thing at least three times. I also have a huge tree in front of my property that apparently would be in the direct sight line for the satellite (southwest). I'm wondering if I could get someone from DirectTV or The Dish Network to access the situation before they mount any hardware.
  5. I highly recommend the Gerald Wilson for many of the same reasons that Rooster Ties sited above.
  6. I believe it does. It has several covers that I haven't seen before.
  7. I hope you finally got past the cover and bought it, cause it's a great session! It really is an ugly son-of-a-bitch though.
  8. Randy Weston, thanks to our good friends at Mosaic.
  9. Woody Shaw - tp Sam Rivers - ts Andrew Hill - p Gary Peacock - b Tony Williams - d
  10. I don't mean smooth as in Kenny G OUR MAN IN PARIS has more of an edge to it - Dexter's playing has a little more bite.
  11. Hey Ed, I actually love OUR MAN IN PARIS, ONE FLIGHT UP and Dexter in general. I guess GO falls into that overrated category for me (although I DO love his rendition of LOVE FOR SALE). I prefer the "grittiness" in his playing on sessions like OUR MAN... as opposed to the "smoothness" of GO.
  12. The Select is my first exposure to the music of Weston and I think it's absolutely fabulous! The Live At The Five Spot set features some great Coleman Hawkins. My favorite though is Piano-A-La-Mode, a great little trio session. Uhuru Afrika and Highlife are both excellent as well, as is the unreleased session w/ Cecil Payne. Highly recommended!
  13. I've never warmed up to Something Else as well. And Brad, don't kill me, but GO isn't one of my favorites either
  14. Hey Jim, If I recall, weren't you a big proponent of that Ron Carter session?
  15. I don't think that KOB is overrated, maybe just overplayed? It's kinda the same with me and Stairway to Heaven and other AOR classics that have been beaten to death by the Program Directors. I can't listen to it anymore.
  16. There's a few that I own that leave me indifferent; the aforementioned PAGE ONE, as well as WHISTLE STOP. I'm also trying my best to like some of The Three Sounds sessions, but I really don't find them that interesting.
  17. I like THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY too. It's a little slow moving, but visually, its a beautiful film. I really enjoy Edmund Gwenn's performance.
  18. I tried to restrict it to 10 of the most well-known films that board members had the greatest probability of seeing. There's many others that should have/could have been included such as I CONFESS, 39 STEPS , etc..
  19. Rooster, LIFEBOAT is worth catching. The entire film takes place on a single set; a lifeboat with the survivors from a U2 attack. It's an interesting psychological character study.
  20. It was real hard narrowing this list down to 10 picks. I originally had 17 and then realized that I was limited to 10. I chose to eliminate LIFEBOAT, ROPE, TO CATCH A THIEF, FRENZY, TORN CURTAIN, I CONFESS and SPELLBOUND. What a great body of work! I really like TORN CURTAIN and TOPAZ, two of which are not held in that high of regard. Actually, the only Hitch that I've ever seen that I didn't care for was UNDER CAPRICORN.
  21. What's your favorite film directed by "The Master of Suspense"?. I'm a big fan of his work made during the period between 1945-1965 with North by Northwest being tops on my list. I selected 10 of his best-known films begining with Foreign Correspondant (circa 1940).
  22. Great choice Jim! I'll pull this one out this weekend.
  23. One of my all time favorite bands. Like Chaney above, I voted for FOR YOUR PLEASURE. This was my first exposure to Roxy Music and it has an errie quality to it that makes it special. All of their studio work is excellent though. My other two favorites would be STRANDED and FLESH AND BLOOD.
