  1. Rooster, LIFEBOAT is worth catching. The entire film takes place on a single set; a lifeboat with the survivors from a U2 attack. It's an interesting psychological character study.
  2. It was real hard narrowing this list down to 10 picks. I originally had 17 and then realized that I was limited to 10. I chose to eliminate LIFEBOAT, ROPE, TO CATCH A THIEF, FRENZY, TORN CURTAIN, I CONFESS and SPELLBOUND. What a great body of work! I really like TORN CURTAIN and TOPAZ, two of which are not held in that high of regard. Actually, the only Hitch that I've ever seen that I didn't care for was UNDER CAPRICORN.
  3. What's your favorite film directed by "The Master of Suspense"?. I'm a big fan of his work made during the period between 1945-1965 with North by Northwest being tops on my list. I selected 10 of his best-known films begining with Foreign Correspondant (circa 1940).
  4. Great choice Jim! I'll pull this one out this weekend.
  5. One of my all time favorite bands. Like Chaney above, I voted for FOR YOUR PLEASURE. This was my first exposure to Roxy Music and it has an errie quality to it that makes it special. All of their studio work is excellent though. My other two favorites would be STRANDED and FLESH AND BLOOD.
  6. I always liked PATTERNS. I actually thought that this was a Reid Miles at first since it's very similar to BASRA.
  7. We get the Country Style ribs here in NY and they are very good. I like to marinate them a day-ahead in a mixture of hot sauce, cider vinegar and a little brown sugar and then throw them on the grill.
  8. Frank Zappa and the Mothers' WEASLES RIPPED MY FLESH. One of the all-time greatest album title and cover. The music ain't bad either
  9. It's been the Randy Weston Mosaic for me since it arrived at my door on Wednesday.
  10. Thanks for the recommendations Late. I listened to Disc 2 last night and it keeps getting better. Piano-a-La-Mode is wonderful as is the unreleased session with Cecil Payne on baritone - how this session went unreleased is a mystery to me.
  11. The Randy Weston Set was waiting for me when I got home yesterday. I only had a chance to listen to disc 1 which contains Little Niles and Live at the Five Spot last night, but I can tell already that I'm going to have to add some more Weston to my collection.
  12. Been on a Proper Box kick lately - just picked up the Nat Cole set in additon to the Dexter Gordon and Wardell Gray.
  13. My real name is Frank. Ralphie boy (actually Ralph) is a nickname that I acquired about eight years ago when we bought our house. My next-door neighboor, who has since moved started calling me Ralph one day for no apparent reason. I originally introduced myself as Frank but for some reason, he thought I was Ralph. Best part of the story is that after a few months of this, I finally told him that my name was Frank. He called me Frank for about a week or so and then went back to Ralph. Once my friends heard this story (and witnessed a "hello Ralph"), they started calling me Ralph. I'm also a Honeymooner's fan, so I decided to go with Ralphie boy.
  14. Wardell Gray and Dexter Gordon Proper boxes. These 4-cd sets, at approx. $18 are the best buys that I've seen in a long while. Nat King Cole and Fats Navarro are next on the list.
  15. Let me also throw in a recommendation for the Mosaic set. All of the sessions feature Stanley with either a trumpet and/or trombone in the front line and are damm good! I especially like Comin' Your Way, with brother Tommy and Jubilee Shout.
  16. A good bet would be to pick-up both THE RINGER and GRAND MAX on Black Lion.
  17. Unfortunately, Andrew!!! has never been released on CD. It's easily obtainable on vinyl however and is well worth seeking out. Great playing by John Gilmore!
  18. Picked up the Wardell Gray Proper Box and have been spinnin' that all weekend. Good stuff!
  19. A few more: THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE DETOUR
  20. KISS ME DEADLY with Ralph Meeker as Mike Hammer
  21. 1) True Blue 2) Judgement 3) The In-Between 4) Smokestack 5) Symphony For Improvisors H/M: Soul Stirrin', Thinking of Home
  22. Thanks for the info guys. I'll wait awhile to see what happens on the reissue front.
  23. Anyone have a set that they would like to sell or know the whereabouts of one? Please let me know. Thanks!
