  1. I picked this one up based on Jim's (and others') comments above. I'm diggin' it! Any other Rollins recommendations that fit into a similar mold as EBR? I suspect his other works on Impulse may be similar.

  3. Me too! That's the 928 I believe, no? You don't see many anymore.
  4. There is a joke in here somewhere. Nice ride rb. No, I'm serious
  5. Love that Volvo Peter! I used to live down the street from some guy that had one sitting on blocks. I begged him to sell it, but he wouldn't part with it.
  6. Here's my ride. My wife calls it my "midlife" crisis. I told her if I was having a midlife crisis, I'd get a girlfriend, not a TT.
  7. I love the shot of Lou Donaldson and his band outside of RVGs studio that was on the back cover of the Mosaic catalog that featured the Donaldson set.
  8. Get yourself a French Press. These make the best cup of coffee IMO.
  9. I like the Hill cover. I wonder what MOTHER SHIP looks like?
  10. Yes it does. Great session! Love John Gilmore's work here.
  11. Oh Yeah, this is a fine choice! Not my favorite Shepp, but there's some fine playing and arrangements here never-the-less. I'll have more to say after spinnin' it again over the weekend.
  12. One of my favorite actors! Not a great move, but one that I always enjoy is Thunder Bay with Dan Dureya (sp?). Another of my favorites is Strategic Air Command with June Allison. The FBI Story is a good one too.
  13. As a guitar player, Neil's playing has always been a huge influence on me. As mentioned above, he's not big on technique, but he packs tons of emotion into every note. I'd rather listen to a guy like Neil who can say more with a few notes than others try to say with hundreds.
  14. There used to be a good rib joint on either First or Second Ave in the 50s called Wyle's. I don't know if they're still in business, but they grilled up a nice rack. Also offered a nice fried onion brick.
  15. A few more: Altman's The Player Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket and Paths of Glory Wilder's ONE,TWO,THREE Siegal's Invasion of the Body Snatchers Scorcese's Goodfellas
  16. I'll have to check out Black Rennassance soon. Hey RT, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Brilliant Circles - it's a great session, despite the piss-poor sound quality. Fortunately, Woody's parts tend to be high in the mix, as opposed to Tyrone Washington's and Hutch's. I hope someone re-releases this one in the near future.
  17. Probably my favorite Hutch session of all those that I've heard. Spaulding put's in a nice day's work on this one.
  18. Both Vol 1 and 2 are real cool, but I prefer Vol 2.
  19. Great idea for a thread RT. I love Woody and have never been disappointed by anything that I've heard, either as a leader or sideman. One session that comes to mind that I really like is Lotus Flower on the Enja label. Nice playing by all, particularly Woody and Steve Turre. I also dig the Mosaic set - it has a nice balance between his smaller and larger working units. The Muse output is real good too; particularly Little Red's Fantasy. I've never had an opportunity to hear the infamous Stepping Stones, but I'll probably grab a vinyl copy in the near future since I don't know if it will make it to CD. As an aside, I recently found out that Woody's sister used to work at my job. I would have loved to speak to her had I known.
  20. Almost anything by Hitchcock, but particularly North by Northwest and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
  21. I also just picked up Moon Rappin' and I'm liking it quite a bit! I just ordered Horace Tapscott's DARK TREE Vol 1and 2 and I'm looking forward to hearing this highly recommended session.
  22. I'm sure some knucklehead will buy this.
  23. No mistaking Ike Quebec. I can always pick-out Sam Rivers and Woody Shaw also.
  24. Andrew Hill - Smokestack Even though they give it ***, I think the review does this session an injustice:
  25. Friedman House Frank Lloyd Wright Plesantville, NY
