  1. I've never heard Back to the Tracks but I'll have to get it soon. True Blue is my favorite, followed by Minor Move. The Waiting Game is not as good in comparison to these IMHO.
  2. I for one am glad that those old things are gone. Not the boxes, but the thermos bottles with the breakable inner part. Everytime I broke one it was punishment time, and of course back then "the belt" wasn't considered child abuse... Nope. Don't miss 'em at all. Those old metal ones from the '50s and early '60s are worth mucho bucks though! I wish I had a few - they'd buy alot of music.
  3. That's interesting - I thought he was strictly a Tenor man.
  4. Ronnie Cuber is da man! ... Ralphie, I dig your Zappa avatar! I used to have that album... Thanks. I wish I could find an original vinyl copy just for the cover.
  5. Welcome abord! This is a nice, friendly place to be, reminiscent of the old BNBB.
  6. I dig Cecil Payne's work too. Another guy I like is Tate Houston. I've only heard him on the Fuller BONE and BARI session, but his work stands out on it. Pepper is probably my favorite though.
  7. For some reason, I didn't dig this session after listening to it once or twice. I then sold it to our good friend Rooster Ties.
  8. How's about Larry Young's Of Love and Peace.
  9. I'm looking for a nice Coleman Hawkins collection. Would I be better off with the Proper Box (4 or 5 CDs) rather than the 10 CD Past Perfect? Both come in around the same price.
  10. I concur - the Mosaic is wonderful. As Brad mentions there are some larger ensemble sessions featuring arrangements by Quincy Jones and Johnny Richards which are excellent, as well as the standard Stitt solo horn fare. It's well worth the investment IMO.
  11. I haven't heard this one but I am also intrigued by it. In reading the previous comments, I suspect that Randy Weston's Highlife session on Colpix is somewhat similar and this is one that I like very much.
  12. I don't really dig Shades of Redd or Out of the Blue either. As for Maiden Voyage, it took me a long time to warm up to it, but now I reach for it pretty often - it's one that definitely grows on you.
  13. There's a good Neil Young tribute called The Bridge. It features covers by altenative acts like The Flaming Lips and Killdozer. Good stuff!
  14. I'm buying this baby!!
  15. Can anyone comment on how Mother Ship compares stylisticially with Of Love and Peace?
  16. Kind of Blue
  17. That wouldn't be much worse than shaving with a cheap disposable.
  18. I bought it since my collection was notably absent of any Bird. I'm enjoying it. As Ghost says it's a chronological overview of his studio work starting in 1940 with McShann and ending in 1948. Sound quality is pretty good also. If you don't have these sides elsewhere, I'd recommend it. At around $20, it's a good buy too!
  19. I had a nice Norelco for several years and was happy with that. Once it up and died, I went back to manual. I've been using the Gilette Mach 3s also and I'm pretty happy with them.
  20. That's a great one! And then he follows up with " Have a nice trip, Mel".
  21. Can't repeat most of my favorite lines here . Here's a few: "Fly Pelican Fly!" "I said Sanitarium, not Sanitation" "F%CK the F%CKING Diaz Brothers" and of course, "Say allo to my little friend"
  22. The one that bothers me is the TOCJ that I had of TRUE BLUE which I sold once I came across the Conn. Even though the Conn has the alternates, the TOCJ was definitely superior sound-wise.
  23. I own a Telecaster with a maple neck and have had other guitars in the past with Rosewood necks. There is definitely a difference in the underlying feel. Maple necks are considered to be "faster. Actually more slippery in feel is a good way to describe it. I find that the rosewood neck absorbs more perspiration and as a result, makes it slightly easier to control. Others may feel differently, but that's been my perception. There probably are differences sound-wise as well, although sound is more the result of differences between make and model. I've played Fender Strats with both maple and rosewood necks and sound-wise, I didn't notice much of a difference.
  24. He was good! I also enjoyed his short reign as George's boss on Seinfeld.
  25. I love O'Neil's Porch! As someone mentioned above, the Parker/Drake rhythm unit is one of the best in the business and it's readily apparent when you listen to this session. Rob Brown's alto work is also fine and fits like a glove with these compositions. Highly recommended.
