  1. It definitely the best outing from any of the Seinfeld alumni so far.
  2. Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy Lee Morgan - Sixth Sense Ike Quebec - Blue and Sentimental Steve Kuhn/Gary McPartland - October Suite
  3. Disc 1 contains One Step Beyond, but the first track is actually Hipnosis, rather than Saturday and Sunday.
  4. There's plenty of gems in the ESP-DISK catalog. The other Charles Tyler session EASTERN MAN ALONE is excellent as is the other Marion Brown. In addition I'd recommend the following: Noah Howard - Live at Judson Hall Frank Wright Trio Henry Grimes - The Call New York Art Quartet Frank Lowe - Black Beings
  5. "Of Love and Peace" is real good too.
  6. She can't be any match for my dear 'ol mother-in-law. Truely frightening!
  7. What's with the cover photo on the new Teagarden set? When I pulled the booklet out of the mailbox the other day, at first glance I thought it was The Complete Bela Lagousi Sessions - It scared the piss out of me!
  8. This set is a STRONG BUY (uh oh, I sound like a stockbroker)..
  9. I pulled out some of the old vinyl this past weekend and listened to Pretzel Logic and The Royal Scam for the first time in a long while. Both great sessions, but I especially love The Royal Scam. Dark, satirical lyrics and some of the best guitar solo work ever commited to record IMHO (e.g., Kid Charlemange, solo#2 by Larry Carlton). On another note, I never realized what a tremendous guitar player Walter Becker is until I watched the Two Against Nature set. He pulls off one intricate solo after another with great ease.
  10. I love Booker too! The Freedom Book is tremendous, as is The Space Book and the rest of the Book series. I also dig The Trance and The In-Between.
  11. I picked up the Shepp at lunchtime today. It's pretty cool - much different than his other Impulses. I could do without the last track with the kid though. I also grabbed the Ayler the other day and I like that much more than I expected.
  12. Oh yeah.. and then there's Archie Shepp on Impulse: Fire Music, Live in San Francisco, Mama Too Tight, The Way Ahead, On This Night, For Losers.
  13. As far as the ESP-Disk catalog, here's a few that I consider to be essential: Marion Brown Quartet Charles Tyler - Eastern Man Alone Frank Wright Trio New York Art Quartet Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity Sun Ra - Heliocentric Worlds Vol I and II
