Not so much scared as appalled. I'm sure that a lot of people on the list are not involved with Scientology but a lot of them are. It's disturbing that bright,talented people are taken in by these snake oil salesmen.

Jim and I briefly met Chick and his wife in Florida; they were perfectly kind and friendly. ← I'm sure it would have been nice meeting Chick but the Scientology brownshirts never gave us the chance.

This brings back unhappy memories of attampting to meet Chick after an RTF concert. I was working for a radio station in Phoenix at the time and station employees were invited to a meet and greet for Chick after the show. The catch-the meet and greet was at the Scientology church. When we got there it didn't take long to get very bad vibes. The scientologists could care less that we were just there to say hello to Chick they told us in so many words to join up or get out. Needless to say we left and I never got to meet Chick and to be honest with you I view that as no great loss.

I was dumbfounded going through that list. That's just terrible.

At WHRB, they run automated loops almost all summer long. Lately people have been getting lazy and just been reusing old loops from previous holiday breaks. (Fortunately, I think I put Organissimo on one of those old loops, so it's quite possible that Joe, Jim, and Randy are in heavy rotation all summer.) ← Organissimo in very heavy rotation is a good idea. The rest of it isn't.

No love from the labels is definitely part of the problem. In many instances if you don't "report" to some publication or recognized radio publication-like radio and records-the labels won't give you the time of day. ← I've also found that Blue Note in particular is much less likely to send promos of re-issues, as opposed to new releases (unless the re-issue is a new compilation of some sort--those they'll usually send). ← Ghost your getting more love from Blue Note than I am.The bastards wouldn't even return my calls. I agree with you about placement for an artist like Ornette. It should be done with some care and thought.

I think this is a combination of "student help" and a corporate radio mentality that could be creeping into the mix. However,if the management is on "summer vacation" it might be premature to lay the corporate radio label on their doorstep.If the radio stations "leadership" are all on summer vacation-that is asking for trouble and I'd bet good money they will get trouble. KNTU seems like your basic Mickey Mouse operation IMO.

Well that's pretty close. Seriously, I lived up the road in Phoenix for a number of years and believe me I'm very well acquainted with how nasty and long the summers are in that part of Arizona. At this time of the year I'm glad I live in the mountains.
