  1. I pulled the trigger on a couple of cd sets just before the end of the year. More purchases are coming soon.
  2. Happy Birthday Marty. It's a pleasure doing buisness with you.
  3. My team,Arizona State, should have been 11-1 but they did finish well. That was some finish to the Iowa-LSU game.
  4. That was something Mike passed along about Horace Silver getting all those bucks from Hip Hoppers. It's also a sad commentary on the lack of love for jazz in the U.S.
  5. Analyze this!!! Happy Birthday!!!!
  6. Happy New Year everyone.
  7. Mike when was this picture taken? I saw the dude when Vincent Crane was his B3 player and Carl Palmer was his drummer. I didn't think he was still making music. As for the rest of you guys thanks for giving me further reasons to flatten my wallet even more.
  8. I finally pulled the trigger on the Brown Blue Note sides. Even though I have the Brown/Blakey material on cd already there are other things I don't have and at the price BMG was offering how could I not. I'm looking forward to the arrival of this box. It's a great way to start 2005.
  9. I'm a big fan of Kenny. Thanks for the heads up.
  10. Jazzmoose,Jazzmoose. Happy Birthday amigo!!!!!
  11. A good idea Leeway.
  12. Posts or no posts, I'm still down with this idea. ho ho ho!!!!
  13. Thunderbird? Now THAT's hard core blues.
  14. Mike you've got a point. It is a lifelong pursuit but as a course taught at school I can't help but feel that it can be done better. Those who take such a course should be exposed to Jimmy Smith and others who have been unfortunately omitted. p.s- A pox on Ken Burns.
  15. Thanks.
  16. History of all sorts too often seem to be written from a narrow and some times dishonest point of view and that possibly could apply to Jazz history. Because of the staggering amount of history that jazz has already accumulated any course on it's history should last more than a semester and Jimmy Smith and the other B3 players should be covered. To not cover Jimmy Smith and others makes Jazz history courses the equivalent of a history course written and taught by "the Victors". P.S. A pox on Ken Burns.
  17. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  18. The Dodgers did get J.D Drew which will be a good pickup IF he stays healthy. LA is still in dire need of a couple of starting pitchers. There aren't too many of them left on the market but any of the still available names would be an improvement over last year's staff. A catcher who can hit more than his weight would be nice too.
  19. What's the name of the companion set?
  20. I added two new ones to my collection this year. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It has two versions of Jingle Bells and the hidden bonus track immediately became my favorite version of the tune. Also I bought one called "Christmas Gumbo" a brand new compilation featuring Sonny Landreth w/the Dixie Cups, Irma Thomas,Bo Dollis, the Subdudes,Aaron Neville and others. It's an absolute jewel. Others you can't go wrong with IMO are the Roomful Of Blues,Ella Fitzgerald and the Blind Boys of Alabama. The new Harry Connick cd "Harry For The Holidays" has some nice arrangements.
  21. A truly underappreciated bluesman but thankfully not too underrecorded and he always did good work. He'll be missed by his fans and those that didn't hear him don't know what they're missing.
  22. Keep us posted.
  23. Yes!!!!-especially Blues # 4-Have Mercy!!!
  24. Right now it looks like LA GM Paul De Podesta is skirting the line between genius and madness. To be continued.
