  1. We were almost on XM. Michelle Sammartino was really excited about Groovadelphia, then was canned. Now it looks like Russ Davis is going to be out, too. I'll stick with my iPod, Blue Lake, WGVU, and WYCE, thank you.
  2. Just got wind that we're number 1 again this week on CMJ. I have to say, I'm surprised!
  3. If they do get Roy Williams the ball, he'll probably just drop it. Lions suck.
  4. Thank you for coming and bringing a friend. We try to play hard if there's one or one hundred people in the room. We all had fun. Lansing is a weird town when it comes to jazz, what can I say. Thanks again and hopefully we'll see you at another show!
  5. With money as tight as it is, we definitely discuss whether a full-fledged radio campaign is worth it. So far, it has been for us. It has created paths to gigs in major markets. For a band like ours which is still under the radar, it is beneficial.
  6. I paid $2.82 off I80 yesterday in South Bend.
  7. Yes. And we get a little something from ASCAP for each spin, thanks to being our own publishers.
  8. The HotHouse (no longer in business I think), Martyr's, and The Green Mill. Sorry you can't be there. Maybe next time.
  9. No. As Greg said, sales are not the reason for doing a radio campaign these days. It does help to put you into conversations with the heavy hitters and also (the big point) looks good to clubs / festivals, etc.

  11. Trust me, I went back for seconds and thirds of everything. I eats my veggies. My wife attempted to make calzones tonight. Didn't work out as planned, but they weren't too bad. Bless her for trying.
  12. Finally, we're back in Chicago next weekend at Andy's Jazz on Hubbard. We're gonna be hanging out all weekend, so who's gonna hang with us? The Chicago organissimo contingent needs to represent!
  13. Sure. But I told Michael he might want to consider posting his unsold items here after the sale.
  14. This just in for our mid and south-east Michigan folks from former WEMU DJ Michael G. Nastos (one of my favorites on that station when I lived in Ann Arbor from 2000 until 2001): Because of worsening economic conditions, I am selling many of my collectibles at the upcoming Monster Record & CD Show, taking place Sunday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Weber's Inn, 3050 Jackson Rd., off the I-94 Jackson exit (east or westbound) on the far west side of Ann Arbor. Among the items in jazz, blues, rock, comedy, world and various other music styles will be cassettes, photos, t-shirts, magazines, a huge collection of picture sleeve, colored vinyl and rare 45's, posters, some autographed pieces, VCR's, CD's and some oddities. I invite list members to come out, as I'm sure there will be something you'd want to own. Everything will be priced reasonably - mostly in the $1-3 or $5-10 range. I am also in the process of auctioning off my entire collection of 1,000 rock LP's. A list will be there to peruse, or I could e-mail it to you. If there are any artists you have specific interest in, please let me know in advance, and I will set them aside. As much as this is something I would rather not do, the financial climate here in Michigan is forcing me to offer these items to music fans who would like to obtain one-of-a-kind collectibles you will likely not find anywhere else. Weber's is easy to locate if you have never been there. Their phone number is (734) 665-3636. Please come out and hang with me, as you know I love to talk about music, and take advantage of this opprtunity. Michael G. Nastos mnastos@emich.edu Michael is a great person and has done a lot over the years to support jazz and local musicians. He writes for the AMG as well as other publications. I'm hoping we can make a stop on our way back from South Bend on Sunday. Any other board members in the area should consider going.
  15. I believe the correct term is "reformed metalist". KNTU has been spinning the crap out of the disc. And we are very appreciative! Thanks for the heads-up.
  16. Fusion is generally regarded as a combination of rock and jazz. Most smooth is instrumental R&B.
  17. All the tunes have been played, but the most popular by a wide margin is Groovadelphia, followed Bleeker and Third Right On The Left.
  18. I just got word that our CD Groovadelphia is ranked number 1 on the Top 10 CMJ Jazz CDs. CMJ is the College Music Journal and tracks airplay of college radio stations. So, being number 1 means is that we had more plays than any other disc for last week, nationwide. This Is The Place got as high as #6 on the CMJ, so we're understandably very happy and proud! Here's the complete Top 10: 1) ORGANISSIMO - Groovadelphia (Big O) 2) ANAT COHEN - Notes From The Village (Anzic) 3) DAVE HOLLAND SEXTET - Pass It On (Dare 2) 4) ROY HARGROVE - Ear Food (Groovin'High-Emarcy) 5) KENNY GARRETT - Sketches Of MD: Live At The Iridium (Mack Avenue) 6) S.M.V. - Thunder (Heads Up) 7) RUDRESH MAHANTHAPPA - Kinsmen (Pi) 8) TED NASH - The Mancini Project (Palmetto) 9) MCCOY TYNER - Guitars (Half Note) 10) KATE MCGARRY - If Less Is More...Nothing Is Everything (Palmetto)
  19. What is the sound of one cheek flapping?
  20. Yamaha DX7, Linn drums, and a Steinberger MIDI guitar, playing one-chord smooth jazz vamps all night.
  21. I wasn't saying the album cover is her; just the picture I linked. I have no idea who it is on the album cover, but she reminds me of Linda Hamilton.
  22. Yes, it is a photo of a young Linda Hamilton: http://www.triviatribute.com/lindahamilton.html
