In other news, the Lions still suck. -
You refer to a band as a person and yet you call others morons? For your information, Joe is good friends with the guitarist in Garaj Mahal, which is a BAND. In other words, Garaj Mahal is a group of musicians, not a single person. Perhaps a little respect is in order or I can show you the door.

UP because Vertigo is on TCM right now. I love this movie! -
While driving on the freeway, you're cut off by a truck, and your car veers into the concrete median, killing you instantly. As much driving as I do as a musician, this isn't funny.

How's our beloved "Fist o' Death" doing these days??
Jim Alfredson replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Forums Discussion
I tried to visit him today at his work, but it was his day off. He's doing well; got a new job that's much better than his last one. I'm hoping to get together with him soon. -
I'm glad you liked the idea and that they were able to help adapt it but I am afraid that your security question is far too easy, and for those who don't know it, the answer can be found pretty quickly. Maybe I'm wrong and spammer registrations will be reduced but I am not especially confident that will happen. OTOH, I don't know what question could be asked that non-fans can't find the answer to, if they want it badly enough. These spammers are not real people. They are scripts or bots that are programmed to find forums like these, fill out the pertinent information, and post the same message over and over again. Even having a simple question like "What animal makes a bow-wow sound?" would stem the tide, because there is no way to program a script to answer these types of questions. It would have to be a real person, and those are rare. But I thought that the registration process was two part: Fill in info Get confirmation email, click on link inside. Or does the script fill in the info, and a real person collects the confirmation emails, then registers and posts the spam? I think I just answered my own question. The emails get sent and a script probably scans the email for a link and goes there. All you need to do is go to the link. If the current question doesn't seem to work, I'll change it, but it's not like we could come up with something that wouldn't take a few seconds to figure out via Google. And if we did, it would probably hinder real people from signing up.

Bruce's cancer condition Update
Jim Alfredson replied to BruceW's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
YAY BRUCE!!! You are strong and will pull through this and be back at those vibes in no time!!! Much love and support from the Alfredson household! -
Invision just released an update to the captcha system in order to curb this type of spamming by automated bots. Looks like when they (Invision) announced the fault, a bunch of bots sprung up to capitalize on it. I installed the update. Now I just have to delete all the false registration. We had 42 new registrations between 4am and 3pm and I bet 99% of them are fake.

A real B3 still has that certain "thang", but I do not miss hauling one around on the road one bit, that is for sure. And the flexablility of the XK System is really inspiring. I really dig it! And once you experience the amount of headroom you have with some like the 3300, it's impossible to go back to a standard tube Leslie like the 122.

IIRC, the Diversi uses a software emulation / model of the B3 and not sampling technology. The XK System including the XK3, XK3c, and XK1 use sampling. The Diversi does sound nice and yes it's far and away better than the old XB-3. McGriff got the XB-3 for free from Hammond under the stipulation that he record and perform with it for a length of time. It was a very expensive instrument (upwards of $20k, I believe). It sounded bad. The New B3 sounds great but is also just as expensive. rshurman, the inflatable Hammond / Leslie idea is a good one. If they can make roll-up pianos, why not? Last year we did a gig in Ann Arbor and while we were setting up this guy came in and sat down right to the side of my rig. He was obviously a Hammond fan. As I was setting up the XK System he came over and said, "So you're using the digital Hammond now, eh?" Yep. It's great. "The traditionalists aren't going to like that." The traditionalists aren't hauling around a real B3 for me, now are they? I'm really happy with my rig consisting of the XK System, the Leslie 3300, and a sub. I have immense headroom, plenty of bass, and clean power. It sounds really, really good.

I got my copy of Groovadelphia!
Jim Alfredson replied to Dan Gould's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Paul, is there a reason WDCB doesn't report to Jazzweek/MediaGuide? Just curious. We hit #2 on the CMJ jazz charts (that's College Music Journal) this week! -

Then call up your local internet jazz station! I should post a list of all the stations playing the disc currently and all the stations that have been serviced with the disc. If you see your local station on the list, give them a call and request it! -
I think Soulstream's point was that when artists record on a newfangled organ, they usually do so because they are being paid to do so through an endorsement deal or other deal. The results are usually a bit poor, to say the least. The older digital Hammonds like XB-3 from the 1990s did not sound very good, but I think McGriff got one for free with the stipulation that he make records with it. Joey is part-owner of Diversi, so it makes sense that he'd be recording with it now, though he also has a fine collection of vintage B3s to choose from, including the one that Jimmy Smith owned that he used on Organic Grooves. That B3 sounds sweet! In the interest of transparency, I also have an endorsement from Hammond, but I did not have to use the XK System on an album. I used it because I wanted to have the MIDI capabilities at my disposal for the recording and because it honestly sounded better than my B3 for what we were doing. I did test recordings on both organs and the XK System won.

Cool! Everyone should call up their local jazz station and ask them to play some organissimo! If the station doesn't have the new disc, tell them they are a donkey-ass moron who no like jazz and then let me know and we'll send them one! -
I've fixed a few other old threads that I've stumbled upon with the same issue. If anyone finds another, just post a link here. Thanks.
