  1. With me, it's paying more than $60 for a long out of print vinyl. All of sudden, it materializes on CD, re-issued from thin air!!!
  2. This is a quite long (over 30 minutes), but fascinating look at how they used to manufacture tubes at the Blackburn plant in England. The first three minutes are pretty boring, but after that it gets interesting. The machines, all pre-computer controlled, are amazing! http://www.techtubevalves.com/about_us/film_reels.php
  3. I used to drive my co-workers at the Cyclotron Laboratory, which were generally good-natured blue collar workers like welders, electricians, machinists, etc., totally crazy. I would listen to the Oldies station while winding coils (which took up to six hours straight to wind) and I would sing along at the top of my lungs. I did it to keep myself sane and to piss off a couple of the folks there that had no since of humor. I'd play jazz too, but nothing caused dirty looks like singing along to Frankie Valley's high-pitch warblings at full blast.
  4. New article / review of Groovadelphia from Charles Latimer. In early 2000, the organ trio organissimo became part of a mini-renaissance of bands that emerged on the Detroit, Mi jazz scene with catchy names such as Bop Cultural, and Urban Transport. The bands wrote and performed mostly original compositions, and were democratic as well. Each member had equal status. The bands developed a loyal following, but save for organissimo the other band were constantly changed personnel, and eventually split up, but organissimo thrived. They seemed to possess a special formula the other bands lacked. I heard organissimo two years ago at the famous Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. The trio cast a spell on me I’ve been unable to break. For those who’ve never experienced the trio, here’ how you can tell when they’re about to cook like a family barbecue: Guitarist Joe Gloss shuts his eyes. Drummer Randy Marsh turns his cap backward, and Alfredson slips of his shoes. Read more, click here.
  5. We're hoping to get back out East early next year. We'll keep everyone posted.
  6. Funny, I think all those books should be required reading... well, except perhaps for the Harry Potter series.
  7. Karma is a harsh mistress, ain't she?
  8. Thanks, Scott. If you like the first, I think you'll really like the third. I think the engineering I did on Lifewish was pure luck; I didn't know even 10% of what I know now and it was recorded in my dad's basement in a completely non-acoustically treated room. It's amazing it came out as well as it did. Although I think it is also proof that an inspired performance will trump immaculate engineering any day of the week.
  9. It drops next month, yo! Featuring a special guest appearance by Najee.
  10. Sean, thanks for posting. You should really try a NOS 12AT7 in that circuit. It sounds really good! Let me know what Ray says. I love my 3300. For the next organissimo album I will record with it. I've done some live recordings, utilizing the direct out straight into the computer and bass is ridiculous. Plenty of tight, clean, defined low end. I think a combination of the direct line and a mic on the bottom rotor would sound awesome on a recording.
  11. That's the problem with using free software like vBulletin. That's why I pay for Invision because their tech support is top-notch. I had an issue on Friday, emailed tech support and got an answer and a solution in less than 10 minutes.
  12. Joe, you know we could make that record in a day. I gotz beatz, yo!
  13. Oh heck yes... http://www.live365.com/charts/top30.live?chart_name=Jazz You know what this means, right Joe? I've already got your album art worked out.
  14. I appreciate good sound, but I longed ago realized that there is a point of severely diminishing returns on your investment. When you actually spend time in recording studios and realize what they do and use to record the music, it all becomes even more silly.
  15. As impossible noted, if you're worried about a source disappearing, copy and paste the text into a document file and save it on your harddrive. There is even plenty of free software that will convert it into a pdf, which you could then attach if the original link disappeared. This is about copyright. And also about common courtesy.
  16. Please, when posting an article from another website, include a hyperlink to that site. Also, don't quote the full article, but rather the first few paragraphs and then put a link at the bottom for folks who want to read more to do so. For example: If everyone can do this, it would be ultra snazzy. If you find someone not complying with the new rule, please report the post to me and the moderators. Thank you!
  17. Hold up. You mean to tell me you don't own any organissimo discs and that you just ordered all three tonight?!?
  18. I did video editing for two years. The current crop of available software makes it pretty easy, if you have a decent computer. I can help with the technical aspect of it. The creative aspect is up to you, of course.
  19. 25 I know next to nothing about rap and one question disappeared before I could answer it.
  20. Bill, thanks for adding organissimo. We really appreciate the support!
  21. That guy, on the other hand, is terrible.
