Speaking of different organs, a relative of mine just gave me a Gulbransen Rialto from the 60's. Cost a whoppin' $6900 when it was new back in 1967 I believe. I only took it because it had a Leslie with it. Alas, the Leslie is a model 100GK. It was specifically made for the Gulbransen and is not compatable with Hammonds at all. It LOOKS just like a 122, but it has no top rotor. It was three stationary 6x9 speakers mounted behind the front louvre (and no side louvres) and a Rotosonic bass speaker (which is where the speaker itself is actually rotating, not just the baffle). I'm hoping I might be able to convert it into a 122 by finding some old parts. That would be SWEET! The cabinet is gorgeous. The Gulbransen organ, by the way, sounds like complete crap. It's out of tune (Hammond never went out of tune!!) and the sounds are really cheesy. It weighs a damn TON and it's all transistorized. Sounds like poo. How can Hammond B3/C3/A100/RT3s sound so wonderful and all other makes and models (hammond too) suck. If it wasn't for those few models, the history of the electric organ would be very, very horrible. Amen to that. I told my relative before he bought the organ (he got it really cheap, thank God) that it wasn't worth anything. I guess he got a Hammond once for nothing and sold it for $2000 and so he thought he could do the same on this one. He's had it in the paper for about a year and he had to move from his old place so he wanted to get rid of it. I thought I might be able to record some cheesy stuff with it to use as intros on our next record, but it hums like a madman and is horribly out of tune. What a piece of junk! Hammonds are where it's at. I told him if he finds a full-sized Hammond tonewheel organ ("the ones with drawbars, not tabs") to let me know. He goes to estate sales all the time and buys old saxophones and stuff. (Get me one of them, too!)

This is because someone has "subscribed" to this thread, which means they are supposed to get an email whenever a new post is added. Of course, since the email system isn't working, whenever you post it creates an error. I'm sorry this still hasn't been fixed. I'm still bugging my service provider for a solution.

Close enough.

Dig it. It's McDuff's birthday today!!! He would've been 77.

McDuff always favored a slightly distorted sound on his Hammond. It's become the stuff of legend, actually. Keith Emerson once said that McDuff's distorted sound haunted him and he tried to emulate that with all his organ playing. My mentor, Doug Decker, has been searching for that elusive sound for decades. The only way to get close is to turn everything all the way up. It has to do with the poor crossover of the Leslie 122 and low frequencies leaking into the horn. Thus one of the reasons Emerson could never fullly duplicate the sound: Part of it comes from kickin' bass! If you don't kick bass, the horn doesn't distort in the same way. Anyway, McDuff is one BAD mofo! Any of his Prestige dates are REQUIRED listening. Start with the record "LIVE!" and move on from there.

What about the Snoop DeVille?

Can I Still Return My Wedding Gifts?

Pretty lame. -
Definately.

I've been getting behind on my Criss Cross purchases, mainly because I can't find a good place that has them relatively inexpensively. Now that Sam Yahel (one of my favorite organists) is on three discs that I don't have, I need to remedy the situation. What's the best online store to order Criss Cross titles from?

Arno, you da man!

Here we go...

I have Mother Ship, the LT pressing. I'll see if I can scan the cover here...

Well, no two Hammonds have the EXACT same sound, but that's just nitpicking. Same electronics, yes. The C's have a little smaller footprint. They are not as deep. I know because I can put a C through the driver side sliding door on my van, but not a B. The B's are too deep. I had an M100 and that could be what that is. Then again, it could also be an L series or an H. All have tabs as well as drawbars. None have decent bass, though. It could be a Porta-B too.

Looks like a Hammond M-100. But he's kickin' bass on those records, isn't he? The photo must not be from those sessions because the M-100 is a spinet model with a crummy one octave pedal board and even crummier bass sound.

He's in the house.

As many of you have no doubt noticed, we are experiencing some glitches with the software and it's interaction with our mail servers. As such, any action that uses the board's email function will return an error. This includes registering, sending a private message, sending an email through the board to other members, and responding to topics that have subscribers. We are working on the problem. I think it has to due more with things on the server end than on our end. Unfortunately, the person who owns and operates the servers we use is on vacation in Mexico. He will be back on Monday and promises to work the problem out to the best of his abilities. He already has an idea of what it may be, but cannot do anything about it from where he's at. Thank you for your patience. I know it's very frustrating but hopefully all will be fixed soon. To new members who cannot register, please stick around! You'll be the first to know when the problem is solved!!!! For some reason I am not able to manually register you anymore. I performed this function just yesterday, but now I cannot. The software returns the same email error. Upon the problem being solved I will register all of you myself and send a confirmation email. Again, this will hopefully be sometime Monday. For our current members, if you have forgotten your password, the password recovery system does not work either since it uses the board's email function. Please email me directly for a new password (info@organissimo.org or forum@organissimo.org). It should be noted that Private Messages DO GO THROUGH! The intended receiver of the message does not get an email telling them that they have a PM, but the message itself does go through. There is no need to resend the message as you will just send multiple copies and keep getting the error message. Also, any new post or topic does go through as well, regardless of the error screen. There is no need to back-up and re-submit the post or topic. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and patience. Please check back with this thread for current information regarding this problem. ----Jim Alfredson

Actually it's Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon Network. Part of Adult Swim. So you probably saw it along with Futurama. One of my favorite cartoons!

We do Rock Candy, of course!

I don't think I'd be very happy if this happened to me...
