RIAA offers amnesty to downloaders, but you must
Jim Alfredson replied to The Mule's topic in Miscellaneous Music
If they had their way they would be able to. They tried to sneak a bill into the Patriot Act (that lump of garbage) that would've given them the right to hack into your computer and delete files without you knowing and without you being able to do anything about it. Say they deleted the wrong file... or just wiped your hard drive clean. You'd have no recourse under the law. Thankfully someone noticed this and it got shitcanned. But they're still trying. And Weizy, if Organissimo ever got it's ass in a sling (whatever that means) the LAST place I'd go looking for help is the RIAA. Fuck those motherfuckers. -

A sign of the apocalypse.......
Jim Alfredson replied to Free For All's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Michael Bolton sings, and Kenny G plays the music of Gershwin as performed by Enja on piano. <shudder> I just gave myself heart attack with that one. -

Any info on "Live Three Ways" Aggie? Big Al, check out Sco's out of print Blue Notes if you can, specifically Groove Elation and Hand Jive. Great records.

Reminds me of when I first heard Kurt Rosenwinkle on Larry Goldings' record "Big Man" on Warner Bros. They were playing Duke's "Purple Gazelle" and Kurt was using a semi-distorted tone. I did not like it. I was used to hearing Kenny Burrell and Wes and Grant and the idea of distortion on a guitar seemed weird to me. But as I listened to it more and started to get into Sco and McLaughlin thanks to Joe, it really opened up a new sonic world for me. As far as synths go, I don't care for a lot of them. But I do like the occasional Minimoog type synth lead (with some distortion, no less) and other analog sounding synth tones as well as Rhodes and Wurli and other vintage keys. The digital, 80s synths are just plain silly. I'm having a lot of fun playing around with the modern software synths. You can do amazing things with a computer nowadays.

Universal Music to Cut CD Prices to Under $13
Jim Alfredson replied to Claude's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Let me guess, the artist's cut is the one that the price drop affects, right... not the record companies cut. -

Help needed in treatment options for my Mom
Jim Alfredson replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Berigan, tell your mother how much you love her everyday. Let her know that she can beat this thing and that can all help and support her. I lost my mom to cancer in 1997. She was diagnosed on October 31st. She died Novermber 27th. Just reading your post caused tears to well up in my eyes. I hope the doctors can stop this now. So much time wasted for no reason. She can beat this thing. Be with her as much as you can. Be brave, be strong... she can beat this thing. -
The guy is becoming a charicature of himself. McDonough, I mean, not Rosenwinkle.

You're kidding right? Please God tell me you're kidding. Jesus, in the name of all that's Holy please tell me you're joking... -
My bitch (and this should be obvious) is that they seems to hire the same local musicians year after year. I couldn't even get the organizers to return my calls, my emails, anything. We can get a festival gig in Florida (getting paid good bread, too) and yet not in our backyard.
-
Watch out Joe, you're becoming an audiophile...
-
Man, I remember you, dude! What's up? Aren't you the cat who thinks Sco can't swing?

My dad will be crushed. We once had a Death Wish marathon and watched as many of them in a row as we could (I think we did four). Maybe it's not appropriate, but I loved when they used him on the Simpsons. It was never really him, but the jokes were funny as hell. "Next up on Movie for a Rained-Out Ballgame, Charles Bronson in Death Wish 12!" cuts to Bronson in a hospital bed: Bronson: "I wish I was dead." Hehe... RIP

Labor Day weekend.....
Jim Alfredson replied to Free For All's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Last night's and tonight's gigs were pretty lame. No audiences. That's to be expected. Tomorrow and Sunday should be good. Weddings both nights!!! $$$$$$$ Cha-ching! -
Most soundmen have NO idea how to run sound for a jazz group. They only know how to compress the shit out of the drums, add tons of bass, and make everything as loud as possible. We've had the pleasure of working with truly professional soundmen (one or two) that actually LISTEN to the band and act accordingly. We've also worked with some fools. Right now we're putting together our own system so we don't have to deal with that anymore. ps. Glad to hear you like organ! Eddy Louis is a great player.
-
I won't even ask what he thinks of the organ. I'd rather play a hundred of my own "mediocre" compositions than re-hash standards for the rest of my life. Better to take chances than to play it safe.
-
I just find this so incredibly funny.... GregM: The dude's a broken record, isn't he?
-
Man, that sucks. We played to an almost empty bar tonight (the R&B band) but we made $90 a piece at least. I like David's idea of an event. A concert and a wine tasting party... now that's an idea!!!
-
DAMN DUDE!!! I was wondering where those came from!!! I knew that Alison wouldn't buy them so I thought maybe the sister-in-law did (she lives in the apartment upstairs in our new house). I was going to eat some last night and then realized they weren't open yet. So like the good husband, I left them alone thinking the wife would get mad if I opened them. Damn, dude. That's harsh. But your plot failed. You see, my wife and I haven't even seen each other for more than two minutes in the last three days. SO THERE!!!!
-
I have that shot as my desktop picture on this computer!!! It's classic.
