I saw a report on Ebay the other week on 60 Minutes and their CEO said when they started in 1995, over 90% of their business came from Beanie Babies. You remember these things? What happened to them? Are they all worthless now, or are people still paying big $$ for them? I always thought they were quite stupid.

You Know What Sucks? REALLY Sucks?
Jim Alfredson replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm almost afraid to say it, but I actually eat the stuff. I like the stuff made with 2% milk the best. I eat it on sammiches, burgers, hotdogs, and by itself. I know. Something is wrong with me. My wife thinks it's disgusting. She's a wine and cheese fanatic and has turned me on to all sorts of great cheese. But I still like this stuff. I don't know why. Maybe I'm defective. -
Yeah, I would love to have a Selmer Mark VI, but who can afford them nowadays? They're going for upwards of $3k on Ebay now. And a 50s vintage!? Fahgettaboudit! I like the new Keilwerths. Ron Blake, who played on our record, plays one and sound marvelous. Those are expensive too, but not as bad as the Selmers.

Man oh man. I just played a beautiful Selmer Mark VI tonight that belongs to Arno Marsh, Randy's father. We're playing with him this week on a little mini-tour of northern Michigan. Anyway, this horn is from the late 50s and was owned by Stan Getz! This is the first professional level horn I've ever played and even though I am NOT a saxophonist by any stretch of the imagination, I couldn't believe how free-blowing and easy it was to play that instrument. It seemed like the notes just fell out of the horn. It was amazing. And the weight... the keys... it just felt right. I can see why the Mark VI's are so sought after. Beautiful instrument. Wow.

I agree about the acoustic bass sounds from the classic BN period, but Rudy's Hammond bass... now that's a different story! Those old organ records shake rattle and roll in the bass!!! Especially on vinyl. There's nothing like the bass on an organ record from vinyl...

Try Sax Gourmet for info on serial numbers and other useful tidbits about used horns. Sax On The Web also has a lot of information. New or used depends on whether you want to go vintage or more modern. If you want to get a Yamaha student model I'd get a used one from a local music store. They'll be set up, ready to go, but a lot less than new. Buying a new horn for a beginner is like buying a new car for a beginning driver.

Or to expose the tastelessness of the list writer(s).

Yeah, I did get that horn I sold JK from the junkdude. Good guy. Nice selection. I agree with the Yamaha assessment. Everyone I've talked to says to buy the student model horn first and move up from there.

Boy, that was stupid. I'll state it again, we will not let this board devolve into the senseless flaming and bickering that marked the end of the BNBB. Take it to the PM or to email, but don't waste everyone's time with this bullshit.

Man ordered to play a tune on accordion
Jim Alfredson replied to Johnny E's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Reminds me of that old joke. An accordian player asks his friend to take his accordian for him since he's going out of town for a week or so. Then friend agrees and picks the accordian up at the musician's apartment. The friend puts the accordian into his car and drives back home. On the way he decides to stop at the local hole in the wall for a beer. He's inside for a few minutes when suddenly he realizes that he forgot to lock the car!!! "Oh crap, " he thinks to himself as he runs outside. He hurries to the car and opens up the back door and sure enough... There's four more accordians in the backseat!!! -
Oops! Apple releases G5 specs 4 days early

Damn, those are some good prices on the G4s. Wish I had the money. -
Paypal is a scam. I've never delt with it and never will based on what I've read about it. They bilked a buddy of mine out of $500. When we decided to sell our CD online, a lot of people said to use Paypal. I researched it and decided against it.

Yeah, Ferrigno talked about the wig. He said it was hot as hell and stinky.

I haven't seen him around here for awhile. Anyone know what's up?

Just heard on the Jimmy Kimmel show (I was channel surfing tonight) that they changed the name of Bruce Banner in the 70s TV to David Banner because the producers thought Bruce sounded too gay. That's pretty funny. Kimmel was interviewing Lou... what's his name... the Hulk guy from the show. Damn... memory dead.

Harry Potter hysteria
Jim Alfredson replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
HAHAH! LOL! That's funny... you gotta love Fallon. -
Man, that's incredibly lame. I can't think of any specific examples, but I used to have run-ins like that with record store guys. This was in the grunge era, so most of them knew only about rock and goth music. I'd ask them about some Jimmy Smith date and they'd look at me like I was from another planet. Music exposure is really the parents responsability. I thank God that my dad loved Hammond organ enough to not only have a bunch of Jimmy Smith records, but also for being a musician and owning a B3. I wish he hadn't sold it when I was a wee one, though.

What an awesome machine. I'll never be able to afford it, but hopefully the dual G4s will come down in price and I can grab one of them!!! (drool) -
To continue: Butthead: Huhhuhhh... he's a wuss. Beavis: Yeah! I could like, kick his ASS! Butthead: Huh huh uhhuhuhh... no way, dillweed. He'd stomp you! Beavis: Shutup, asswipe!!! (the two start fighting on the couch)

Hey Greg... how about ordering the Organissimo CD and writing up a review of the sonics... C'mon it's only $14.99!! I have no SACD player, so I'll stay out of this one.

Ok folks, the official week for this one has started. DISCUSS!
-
I took this from the thread called New Issue JAZZIZ pretty good. This is by Ed Swinnich in response to a mean-spirited comment he made concerning Greg's recent appearance on this board. I am closing this thread. Those involved need to figure out if not checking their ego and apologizing are worth losing a friend and/or holding a grudge in this small community. Whether or not something was said is not as important as whether or not someone thinks something was said and is offended and/or hurt by it. The easiest way to solve this is to say, "I didn't intend my comment to convey that, but if it did, I'm sorry." But so far all we've seen are responses akin to a badger with it's back up against the wall. I'm speaking to all involved here. I suggest some time off from this to think about how we can better treat each other without getting defensive. If after reading this you immediately think, "Well, he's the one who said..." than it hasn't been long enough. Keep thinking. I will not have this board devolve into bickering and flame-wars like the old BNBB.
