  1. Well, they pulled it out! It's nice that the Admiral ends his great career on such a high note. I'm glad they finally put the Nets away, too. Too much griping and showboating on that team for my tastes. Play the game. Congrats to the Spurs!!
  2. The thing that I noticed about the IQ test is pretty much what chris said. If you're good at taking standardized tests, you'll get a high score. I've always been good at those sort of things. After one or two questions I can usually figure out the tricks that the test is trying to use. Then I just go on autopilot for the most part. If you're not good at standardized tests, than you probably won't do good. I know many people who are not good at such tests but are very smart. My wife is one of them! I can see why people are calling for reform of college entrance exams like the ACT and SAT. I didn't take the SAT, but I got a 32 on the ACT without even studying for it. I'm just good at taking tests.
  3. So does this mean you're all leaving if the BNBB ever reopens?
  4. I took this a few weeks ago after seeing an ad on MSN and being bored. I scored a 133 which is pretty good? And then they tried to sell me a 15 page report on my strengths and weaknessess and labeled me a "Visionary Philosopher" and shit. They must not think I'm too smart if they're trying to sell me some load of crap for $15.99
  5. Fantastic interview. Thank you for posting that! I especially love this: RIGHT ON!
  6. May I suggest the Klipsch ProMedia series. They carry them at most computer stores. Very good sounding computer speakers, IMO.
  7. I found the biggest difference wasn't really the tone of the organ. Changing caps on the pre just made it quieter. Less noise and fuzz and such. It seems to bark a little better too, if you know what I mean. Glad to hear it was nothing serious. I'll remember the solution if that ever happens to me on a gig!
  8. My wife... 'cos she's FINE! Oh wait, we're supposed to be talking about music... let's see... I've been practicing saxophone and trying to write new tunes with the Hammond. Does that count?
  9. Foxtrot is really a great album. The Lamb is my favorite. If it sounds muddy, Bev, you need to get the remaster. They really did a good job on that one. Even the original vinyl is muddy sounding and has a low level 60 cycle hum in it. The remaster from the mid-90s is super clean and crisp. The comment about Genesis being split into Hackett/post-Hackett is interesting. I don't think it had much to do with him, though. Honestly, I think what happened is that they started experimenting with pop-ier songs starting with W&W. They continued the trend on ATTWT. Then Phil put his solo record out and it exploded and sold more copies than any Genesis record ever had. I think they all said, "Hey... let's do that." And then there was Abacab. And concerning the Peter Gabriel "talk-sing" comment... I think Gabriel has an infinitely more interesting voice than Phil. Just the timbre of his voice is completely unique. He does do a bit of "talking" in the old Genesis records, but that's due, I think, to the fact that he's doing characters. It's like a narrative.
  10. That's a good idea. Especially since so many hospitals have nursing shortages. You never know who's been working an 18 hour shift and looking after 10 people, you know?
  11. My handle is pretty obvious. My full name is James Theodore Alfredson III. Most people call me Jim, although in music circles I've started to be known as "Jimmy". My mom always called me Jimmy to distinguish me from my dad and I tried to get away from that as I got older. I even tried to be James in elementary school but it never fit. Now I don't mind being called Jimmy at all. Especially since I discovered Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff!!! B)
  12. jacman, thanks for posting that! A very cool story! Your dad sounds way hip... B)
  13. She was in the one in Minnesota. It would've been November of 1997. I do not know any of the names of her Doctors. My older sister and grandmother were there with her.
  14. So after reading all that I've determined that our next Organissimo record is not going to feature our pictures on it anywhere. And I think I'll make my stage name Alfred James. That way it might sound like I'm black. Because Lord knows, white people can't play jazz. What the fuck are these assholes talking about?! Bix Biederbecke anyone? Bill Evans? Joe Lovano? They can't play? I'm tired of hearing this shit. Listen to the motherfucking music, dipshit. It's reverse racism, pure and simple. And what is Stanley talking about re: hip hop? Is he actually saying hip hop doesn't swing? Man, listen to the beats they're using. That shit swings like hell!!! Anyone who can't feel that has a concrete heart. It's true a lot of white musicians have been elevated in the past decade. But why is that? Could it be that there are not a whole lot of black musicians coming into jazz? How many jazz concerts have you been to lately where the audience isn't predominately white? Black culture as a whole has moved on to other forms of music. How many young black organists are there today? How many white ones? Why is that? All of this shit just further segregates people. Fuck them all. Muisicans have no problem with race, age, gender, sexual preference, whatever. At least not the ones I associate with. It seems to be just the critics.
  15. Man, that is some fucked up shit. Thank God he survived. I mean, 1962?!? Think of all the brilliant music we wouldn't have if he had died then! Basically his entire solo output for Blue Note, not to mention all the sideman dates!
  16. My mom was at Mayo for a little while. They couldn't help her, but they were very nice.
  17. Ebrew... nice homepage by the way. I haven't heard Pelt yet. What album do you recommend?
  18. How's that? The one on Tower was green, but this one is blue. Is it supposed to be green? Also... make a list of classic record covers and I'll add them to the stock avatars.
  19. Dig it!
  20. Soulstation, If you post a link to an image that you would like to use as your avatar, I can set it up for you.
  21. JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!! I never knew he was shot in the back!! That's horrible! When and why did that happen? I forgot I had this on CD, so I'm listening to it now. I'd love to hear Musty Rusty especially since it has the underrated Billy Gardner on organ. I love his organ playing! I remember why I don't listen to this CD much now that I've gotten to the guitar solo. But damn, Patton is a funky mutha. Oh, and this thread already has 6 replies. That's almost half of what mine has and it's only been up a couple hours. I might have to ban you all.
  22. Considering I just left that age bracket (I turned 26 last month) I have to say, overall, a 18 sucked. Left high school ( ) went to college ( and ) and broke up with the girl I really thought I was going to marry ( ). 20 sucked big time. My mom died quite suddenly after a very short battle with cancer. ( ) 21 was cool. Met Joe Gloss and formed a great musical bond with him. ( ) Finally started getting over that girlfriend from year 18 ( ) and started dating and having fun again with college girls ( ) 22 was cool. Moved out of my dad's house and to Ann Arbor ( ) and met some very cool people. 23 was more of the same except one bad thing. My dad, after years of neglecting his health, had open heart surgery. ( ) But he's fine and I was still in Ann Arbor, playing music, buying CDs like mad, buying cool stereo equipment, collecting Hammond organs!!!! ( ) 24 was super cool. Met Randy Marsh and formed ORGANISSIMO!!!! 25 was AWESOME. Met my wife and we released our debut CD!! Woot! ( ) And so far, 26 is more than I could ask for.
  23. Get him on here!
