  1. Somebody should change the title of this thread!
  2. I don't have a dog in this fight, since I have no idea what it's about, but as Chuck mentioned, Dan is Dan, and you're not the first to be on the receiving end here. In fact you're in good company. And although he may have chosen that avatar to piss you off, you can exercise the choice not to be pissed off about it. Hell, rostasi had that avatar months ago and nobody was pissed about it. Just a little grossed out, in my case.
  3. Excellent! Will you be dropping by?
  4. The man's a GENIUS! I was in on it all along, of course.
  5. You and me both. It's like crack! Be strong, Al! :rsmile:
  6. Bill: Jim Anderson did indeed migrate over here. The "Ask the Engineer" thread is buried somewhere, but hasn't been very active lately.
  7. It just makes me think of the times when I heard someone play and thought, "is this guy for real?" Then there's your example of the opposite; you weren't "for real" in your head, but everyone else thought it was the shit. It would make you take things a little less seriously in that sense.
  8. I hear you on the larger point. That's interesting.
  9. Seems to me there is a win-win situation in the making.
  10. Nice commentary.
  11. See the other thread before throwing in the towel.
  12. So what you're saying is, there's a lot of them.
  13. I don't know what Jim's been up to today, but if he doesn't post before his gig tonight, I wouldn't expect anything until the wee hours.
  14. There are plenty of chat/instant message programs out there. I think gmail just added one, for instance. As long as you've got the email info for the org chat gang, it would be easy to set it up. A little tougher to coordinate, though.
  15. Sad for me, too. It's been a great ride, but I knew it couldn't last indefinitely - mainly because of the cost of operation. The facebook idea might not be a bad one. It would be great to keep something going, and I have a hope to meet more of you out "on the road" someday.
  16. I thought he (Allen) was joking. Or is dumpy mama joking? I'm so confused.
  17. marcello - who are the musicians in your pics?
  18. And it might be just me, but some of the solo grooves on some of the solos here almost seem like a "real player" version of that mix of jazz improvisational sensibility & broken-beat rhythmic esthetic that I've been hearing\wanting to hear for awhile now. Some might hear "fusion" or "funk", and I know what they mean, but this just feels a little different, and I think there might be some of that house/broken beat thing in the mix somewhere affecting that. I'll keep that in mind about the broken-beat esthetic next time I listen. I was being nice. Did'ya dig that clip? Krantz blows me away on that (I love the shift towards a major-ish sound that happens over the course of his solo), and that rhythm team - DAMN.
  19. Also, this band reminds me a little of Joshua Redman's group with Brian Blade and Sam Yahel. But Potter's group hits quite a bit harder, I think, and is a bit more engaging for me. I say that with all due respect, as I am a fan of Yahel and especially Blade.
