Now, I find this interesting because I notice Lloyd's last few albums have been recorded on analogue (correct me if I'm wrong) whereas most ECM's and many contemporary albums are recorded digitally. Does this mean that Lloyd's albums sound different on top range equipment compared to other ECM's, which are often accused of 'sterility' or 'lifelessness'? I'm probing because I'm not an audiophile and my curiosity was stirred by the mention of these Lloyd discs.

I started with the obvious, Getz/Gilberto, many years ago. It certainly gave me the impetus to investigate the fusion between jazz and Brazilian rhythms. My last Jobim based purchase was the 4CD set by Verve 'The Girl From Ipanema' which gathers Getz's bossa recording with Byrd etc. I was particularly impressed with the Maria Toledo session. Now, a damn good imitation ( no Brazilians, and no Getz) is Jim Tomlinson's 'Brazilian Sketches' on Candid. He's often known as Mr Stacey Kent and the missus sings on several tracks. In the absence of Getz, he'll do fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually received the Evans Riverside set from them during their last sale and it sounds as good (or bad!) as the original ZYX discs. I'm content with that. As for CC BNs; well, that's all I've managed to get hold of so far in this country. I'm not sure of an alternative to the latest reissues. I'm in need of enlightenment regarding this. Cheers.

And what do you reckon? I've heard very mixed opinions about this one.

The feeling he brought to Ella's renditions of Duke's music will, to me, always be completely timeless. His Poll Winners discs are a long standing favourite and epitomise relaxed swing.....legendary guitarist, impossible to replace.

Just ordered this from CD Baby. Really looking forward to this one. If the comments here are anything to go by, I'll be in for a great treat.
