  1. love this Orlando Julius cut.
  2. that Dr John set looks tasty. wonder if the sound is in need of magic?
  3. Best to you in the recovery haul, and on. A good friend / client had thyroid removal a few months back that proved benign. She was w/o a voice for six weeks or so but after very dedicated vocal coaching therapy she is up to her old self and doing great. So good to hear your prognosis is top of the mark. Sounds like time for some of those cakes from the old BNBB days are in order!
  4. What others were you lucky enough to see at Sandy's?
  5. '70 or '71 Chicago Transit Authority w/ my parents. Sat in the first row ... man it was LOUD!
  6. a heavily afro caribbean accented gentleman just called me from UPS to make sure that someone would be able to sign for a package that is coming in a few hours. never had that happen. and comparing our UPS guy to the abso nutso mailwoman who spends five minutes lashing packages around the mailbox with a cat's cradle of rubber bands is no contest.
  7. I'm thinking of telling Chewy it fell from Ruth's skirt.
  8. High recs for the "Dreamers: Ipos" ... Ribot going all Beach Blanket Bar Mitzvah.
  9. there must be a hundred threads on this subject. as an aside I stopped by the flagship Newbury Comics last nite and saw FIVE versions of 'Cool Struttin'' - on vinyl! a Blue Note repress, a French import, one with a foil "stereo" stamped across the cover, a Japanese 100 yr Lion Anniv issue w/ obi and a Hoffman Gray Music Matters 45 double with a pubic hair floating inside the factory sealed plastic.
  10. is his hamster still singing with the band?
  11. Just re-issued are a couple of vocals from Lalo's 'Once a Thief' (a kind of Dame Shirley take on "Almost Like Being in Love"?) sample Cincinnati Kid Box
  12. I'd have to add in my favorite caddie/golfer.....Francis Ouimet, winner of the 1913 US Open at age 20. He'd clobber 'em all. or how this Montague the Magnificent! now if I had to round out a foursome I'd go Chi Chi, Trevino, Boros.
  13. I'd give my left nut to have Tiger and Jack go toe to toe, both their primes, using today's equipment. That's the only way the "who's best" argument can ever be resolved. I'd even throw Hogan or Bobby Jones into that mix. If you've ever seen either of their swings, you know why. I don't know about the left one as that might produce too much of a hip turn on the backswing and end up leaking things out to the right. But I agree and love to see it done with old persimmons and steel. I'll take Jack in my bracket!
  14. Nice piece in this week's New Yorker.
  15. Rollins & Blumenthal were on the local radio yesterday humping tour / new book: on point stream
  16. yes, yes. Love that What's New 2 too. I had purchased another Deja Vu LP sometime ago and was a bit disappointed thus the wait. I emailed Paolo Scotti and he replied that this Cuppini would not receive a CD issue. Juno UK has samples online. http://www.juno.co.uk/artists/Gil+Cuppini+Quintet/
  17. I waited a couple of years for this to be issued on alyouminium but alas finally broke down and ordered the vinyl. Yipes am I glad I did. 60's heft stone classic piece of perfection. Swank standards but Cuppini is hot and they even do a little take on "L'Uomo Dal Bracco D'Oro". :tup
  18. Call the Plumbah!! or just call Porky, cuz he's got the plunger!
  19. yeah, but them rakes ain't all what they used to be.
  20. i particularly like this one: I have a work pal that is a god on the milling machine. Could one be machined out of nylon with a felt berm that would just allow the arm to ramp up to a stop, so no counterweights to get in the way. Looking at Claude's links that Thorens just "stuck" to the plinth via double stick tape. How much would one be willing to pay for a hand made unit? I have a fully manual Rega that has no stop / lift so I'll do some asking as to what it would entail.
  21. thanks for the screen shots Chris ... I see they offer a companion DVD that fills to '09 I believe. an aside - my favorite of all cover artists has a big new book of his own - worth every penny too. http://www.peterdeseve.com/ refreshing the opening page allows flash animations of thumbnail to sketch to pencil to finish of some of his illustrations and covers.
  22. I received the email yesterday as well. Chris, as someone familiar, does the set show all the page art as well? Not just the cartoons but wondering if the sketches and covers are displayed in a decent way? Worth it for all the Ballietts! thanks.
  23. and do I spot a fivesome of the "complete" double JRVGs w/ the red obis top right? I thought there were just the Monk, Miles and Clark.
