nice! I do hope she comes back to the states soon. There are lots who know the deal much more than me, so I defer, but seemed to be toying a bit back in the day with the old trad much like Céu does now. She sure the heck beats Bebel who I want to like but seems utterly bored in comparison.

KPM 1000 Series on iTunes
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Re-issues
The 'Big Beat' comp is virtually Alan Hawkshaw's 'More Hawk'. plus some of those 'Blow Up' comps. good stuff!! but most might be best served in the "cut the cheese" thread. -
KPM 1000 Series on iTunes
Man with the Golden Arm replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Re-issues
Thanks TTK & MG ... I think Dusty had some of these as did Movie Grooves as very pricey imports (i remember I almost picked up the Afro Rock one). Fantastic sounds! and quite the treasure trove. I have some of this stuff here (Parkers, Hawkshaw, Cameron) and there but seeing it all in one spot is great - might seem best to pick and choose and toss them 8 second jobbies. Just wish I'd kept the old iTunes before #9 as the search function is now stoopid (or I now am). Let us know which ones you think are essential. -

conversely for your Sun Ra re-issues? -
What Lon said! I'd run and see her!! Her band does catch the electro vibe bit live very well - saw her at the MFA Boston at the time of her debut ... much less a DJ outing than using a table to wash the sound of the other instruments. do get as close as possible ... she's very, very easy on the eyes. Her new one is more subtle and less upbeat than the first - but do check out Sonantes (sp) with her guest vocals ... very nice.

I reviewed that book for The Saturday Review — it was riddled with inexcusable factual mistakes, spelling mistakes, etc. 'Talking Jazz' and 'Black Talk' are two different books. Your review was of his thesis based piece - a very tuff read. The book 'TJ' was a compilation of interviews that have since appeared in full on NPR etc. errors about errors about error seems redundant. Ben has taught me lots as have you, tho.

cool slide show! they forgot one.. -
Go into your preferences - importi settings - and set that to AAC or MP3 at whatever rate you prefer. Then select the tunes in your library or in play lists you want to be in that new format from the ones that are the higher quality. Go up to 'Advanced' drop down and select the fifth one down "Create AAC / MP3 ..." (it will be Lossless or AIFF previously) and it will recreate the files anew in the lower format you desire while keeping the originals. I then usually go to "Recently Added" (the play list) and grab them from there and do th voodoo from here out... Hope that helps and you might already do all that anyhoo.

Removing Masking Tape from seams
Man with the Golden Arm replied to clifford_thornton's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
I would try Bestine. found at art supply stores. Try to apply it with a brush to the edge away from the seam ... stuff evaporates fast ... then lift and apply under the tape till it gives. The stuff will get "inside" the cardboard but will evaporate out after it gets warmed up. Any glue residue can be wiped up wit ha soft paper towel with a little Bestine on it. It should not damage the mylar but pulling up too quickly can cause the top layer of the cover to bubble and become removed from the other plies. -

FS: Bang & Olufsen turntable: Beogram RX
Man with the Golden Arm replied to skeith's topic in Offering and Looking For...
The RX was the standard pivot. I think the linears have numbers like 3000 or something. I remember the sales guy trick was to pick up the side of the table and lift it beyond 45 degrees while the arm still tracked - 'cuz you know that everyone does that in order to hide stuff under it at parties. The RX series is a great table if your looking to keep your vinyl pristine. -

"John Zorn: Hardboiled Bop"
Man with the Golden Arm replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Thanks Ghost! (now I gotta figure how to get that realplayer to work again) w/o this I would never have seen those great SCMQ youtubes and would have missed perplexing myself trying to figure what little quote Chadbourne plays @3:30 (byrds? feelin a whole lot better??) so when will the country and western sounds of .... be broadcast? maybe should pull out the old 'There'll be no Tears Tonight'. -
try to grab the old one with Lee facing left rather than right ... it's politically and aurally better to me.
