  1. Thanks, I'd hope for CDs too. I look every now and then for them to be issued. No 'Jungle Jazz'? and screw iTunes! they want $1.29 for indy tracks. Amazon has them for .99 if you are interested and probably have the Rhino twofer on disc.
  2. A truly blind purchase happened at the Village Tower many years ago. A buddy and I saw a few folks stepping up the register with a new lp release called "The Big Gundown". I had never ever heard of Zorn and only knew Morricone from the Leone soundtracks. The only reason I sprang for the album was that the moire pattern cover shot of Morricone looked exactly like a model maker friend back at work. That blind purchase totally spun my ears around - a complete undermining of what an album can be. I then had to know who Arto Lindsay, Bobby Previte, John Patton and Diamanda Galas were. The latter proved too scary for me.
  3. I purchased quite a few of the BN DMM pressings back in the mid eighties - I had bought a couple BN cds by then but still bought the "cheap stuff" too. Bought Bennie Wallace's "Twilight Time" cuz of Dr. John and Stevie Ray but more for the crazy jacket. At the time I also picked up an LP called "Straight No Filter" just because the guy on the cover looked so cool.
  4. another piddly price case in point / whaddaya do? win an auction the old fashioned way. pay for shipping. took forever. receive different item. contact seller who sez he will credit you but fails to answer your requests for return shipping info. i'm being proactive trying to get the wrong item back to him - but I should not pay for it! fails to credit you as promised. finally tells you to send it back "...it's only a few bucks". still no credit for original transaction. do you keep the email chain going? waste of time. or place an incorrect item dispute via paypal.
  5. nicely done. avatar to the left lent accompaniment to the mix. that Goldsmith TZ was great- that TV stuff available? and why o why can't ALL that Kenyon Hopkins ST stuff ever see some re-issues?
  6. mas! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPqwlgqO_x0
  7. on a different note, reminds me of a friend who told me he turns those ribbed ones inside out - "heck, if I'm buying 'em why should she get the extra pleasure".
  8. "metro retro SWF: lookin' for a good, clean head."
  9. Why can't we get cell phone cozies like that over here!
  10. HUGE! non-call that should have been up for review, but ... blah blah. Great championship series and a great post season all around. The fact that the Celts could not put it in from underneath when they realized they actually have to make jump shots along with that Gasol >Seinfeld "Newman" smiley< hopskotch was a depressing end. I used to like the Lakers when they had guys named Happy.
  11. Hey , where you been!? This thread is a cul-de-sac. I hope Garnett steps on Pau's low-hangin' lip.
  12. very nice story! Recently picked up this Umiliani "Una Bella Grinta" and recommend it highly. A soundtrack Gato made prior to Tango.
  13. NO MOZAIYIKS FOR YOU!
  14. Stumbled upon Amazon yesterday and see many RVG titles in MP3 are selling for $3.68. not that we need them.
  15. some of my fave jazz images are by Serge Clerc (he did that Joe Jackson live cover art). does comic art count.
  16. I'm not much of a remix listener but when done well ... soundcloud
  17. Reminds me a bit of a Vaughan Bodé invention for Cheech Wizard's "Lizard Zen" circa 1973.
  18. and when I listened to it in the mirror I couldn't hear ANYTHING!
  19. Hehe! the mash up stuff is a bit tiresome after a few seconds but this one's kinda nice: swamp jamboree
  20. not that it has anything to do with stay notes ... but, when I first purchased the set years ago I transferred some onto cassette for the car. Funny thing was that the first few songs from disc one (quartet sessions) had a rumble and whirr OVER the music that ended when the first few songs did - not the deck, tried different tapes, became obsessed - Mosaic sent a replacement and it did the same. weird but the disc itself played fine and this anomaly was only apparent when on a cassette.
  21. Jackie and René - Mor Thiam and Akon
  22. Should be out soon. Only one of the 4 lps I've got is the one (on Jasmine) with Ronnie Scott, so guess I'll pick 'er up. Now that this has been out for a time are there any comments regarding the sound quality of this set? Curious as the "fantastic voyage" label is not one I've heard of - kinda like a BGP or ACE?
  23. thanks for the tip! those streams sound good. I've lost track of my listening re: Coleman but used to look forward to his releases as well but that was back in the novus / jmt days. I need to get up to speed.
