  1. at the very least provide a link. i'm sick of seeing the commercial for some such up here where a fat gal gets a Sox logo on her shoulder.
  2. I thought I was in some sort of time warp! HELLYEAH!
  3. RIP 'Hefti In Gotham' is still out there on the "wires" for anyone interested ... esp to hear the lead in of "Mother Gotham" that later morphed into his theme from "The Odd Couple".
  4. I came across this stuff last month in a search for Lester Bowie. A friend of mine also came across it, by chance, in a search for Olu Dara. Another friend came across it by chance searching for Taj Mahal. Everyone had dl'd the Ishmael Reed Conjure album. I picked up a couple of tracks from other albums here and there. Thanks for the rec's Vint! Anyone and everyone should, at the very least, spend a token on "Rawalpindi Blues" from the Paul Haines 'Darn It' album and then play it as loud as the neighborhood will allow plus one notch more. Possibly my favorite performance of all time ... it will grab you by the wish bone!
  5. Most all of Kip Hanrahan's American Clavé label is now up. For the uninitiated steer very clear (just from samples) of something called "Beautiful Scars" - a new one by Kip. But by all means there is some important work for the taking. American Clavé
  6. If you like Michael Franks then member "jazzshrink" is available for an intervention.
  7. considering I've put up two of these things: An improperly hung ceiling fan falls from above you while it's running. The fast-moving blades slice through your neck with ease, launching your head across the room. the part they left out is: ... then your noggin crashes thru the second story bay window and rolls down the driveway only to be blasted by the neighbor across the street who is once again blowing leaves and dirt and shit all over the place.
  8. ... and here I figured one of em had a hernia.
  9. You can get about 60 of these into one of these .
  10. only made it thru D but as "pedestrian" as it might be - omitting 'Cool Struttin''!?
  11. Marsalis Jazz ABZ That "Mysterious Thelonious" is a good one...
  12. Jack White ... (just bumping my post count with stoopid stuff is all ...) BUT more importantly I laffed at the positivity of "half-full colon". never heard that one.
  13. I always get him confused with this guy.
  14. all i know is I shouldn't a tried to Google Image "Chubby Hubby"
  15. I had a couple retinal tears (and i'm NOT nearsighted) a year or so back that were cautiously and promptly treated. I do suggest one of these to counteract the feeling of one of these
  16. Damn sorry. At least you have back up. I left my manual table on for a couple days without having taken the needle up from the center (put a jacket on top of the dust cover so I forgot and turned the amp off...) so it just skimmed along the side of the inner groove for 50 hours plus! Wondering if I should go and have it checked out? I can't hear any difference but who knows what damage lies within.
  17. It's a new CD re-issue on the EMI/DRG label - a twofer w/ a tosser - Previn's "Paris Swings" by Elmer Bernstein and the Swinging Bon Vivants. Sure wished they'd pressed with something a bit more compelling like 'The Silencers'.
  18. Just received "Staccato" on disc and Williams does play piano here. He also served as main go-to on much of Mancini's more jazz drenched soundtracks. As well he played that damned harpsichord on 'Combo!'.
  19. Yes, they always pissed me off in edition after edition with their line about Sonny Clark.
  20. To think that both "Small Change" and "I Don't Want to Go Home" were released 32 years back. Man I'm getting old ... those lps sit in a milk crate somewhere. My allegiances then went more to SS as his live trips to Cleveland were many and caught him nearly every chance I could. The project seems like one of his devotion. Nice to hear his voice still strong as ever on the samples. Good luck with it all DanG. esp with the competition from Ms Johansen.(do I smell a touring duet?) You got quite a crew of chops in that line up! Must have been fun!! LaBamba,LaBamba,LaBamba...
  21. illy B loves dem hooves!
  22. Curious if anyone has heard this? I was happy to see it at the local shop and pulled it up to the cash register. The kid behind was excited to see it too, but let me know that all he had heard on the Tzadik label was just noise to him - "Mike Patton, Buckethead, Trevor Dunn" ... what'd he expect! I assured him that Medeski has played the Zorn stuff all pretty straight even in the Electric Masada and supplied much swing and groove. Well I phoned the store after a preview drive to alert him of his spot-on call. Luckily some chump at eBay picked it up w/ a Buy It Now sos I didn't have to chuck it out the window after all. Aside from some shaking goat hooves and the last couple of tunes I found nothing of merit whatsoever. I think I'm now officially tired of Zorn's schtick and his regurgitated melodies. Too much paraquat in the last batch at the shack, maybe?
  23. Call Vladimir at North Country Audio (Cadence records etc...) NY. Tell him what you need and he will set you up , likes, dislikes, budget. AND they'll be there before you can strip your wires! Cadence North Country
  24. "Freshly Squeezed"... Lynch's tastes during that period certainly drew to the swankiest when it came to jazz and to me Badalamenti's Twin Peaks work owes a great deal to the Italian soundtracks from the sixties and surrounding. Check out sources such as Armando Trovajoli (Trovaioli), Piero Umiliani, Gianni Ferrio and others. A good place to start might be "e-music" and look for labels like 'Cinevox' and 'Right Tempo' / 'Easy Tempo' for some samplings. But do get hands on the OSTs mentioned by Quincy as well as Wild At Heart - steer a bit clear of the TP vol II.
