  2. To answer my own question, yes http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=Agsz1z83a3yv6 Have they done anything besides this cut? Does Sweet or anyone else sing lead? Eric
  3. I have that Thorns CD and frankly, it is a snooze. It does not sound like a Sweet record - kind of reminds me of Wilson Phillips. Very lightweight, at least for my tastes. Is Ming Tea the group that played "Daddy Wasn't There" in Goldmember?? Eric
  4. Thanks Ghost - I will look for that book and boot. I can definitely hear the late Trane influence. And ... did I read in the MM liners that Verlaine wanted RVG - yes that RVG - to be his engineer??? I did snag the Rhino Hommade CD. I also picked up the Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine solo CDs that Collectors Choice put out not too long ago. I knew Lloyd from a prior Matthew Sweet obsession and really like his solo CD. This is very good and unique stuff. I actually think I had the MM lp in college but never took the time to really get into it and sold it back. Musically, these guys hardly sound like punks, but not sure where else I would place them, although it hardly matters ... Eric

    Andrew Hill space

True Story Bought the Mosaic not long after it came out. Loved it. Burned separate CDs for Andrew! and the Sam Rivers sessions so I could listen to them straight through. My 8 year old loves to draw. He uses my Mosaic boxes as easels. Whatever, I am pretty cool about it, never been a problem. However, unknown to me, he takes one in the car to do some drawing "on the road". Somehow, someway, he freaking loses it. The whole box, with the CDs, booklet, etc. Of course it was the Andrew Hill. Eric
  6. About 25 years late, but I am really getting into Marquee Moon. I do hear some guitar lines that come straight outta the early Talking Heads. Wish I was a guitarist so I could describe in more detail, but I am wondering - does anyone else hear any similarity - and if so, who influenced who? I am guessing the Heads picked it up from Television ... Eric
  7. Likewise, just got it and like what I hear - quite a bit in fact. Thise on the fence can hear sound clips on the (gasp) Blue Note site. Eric
  8. Another vote for Charles Kynard, who happens to be from KC. One guy I also enjoy is Hank Marr, from (I think) Columbus, OH. He has a couple CDs on the DoubleTime label here in the US. Eric
  9. BTW Rooster, you can borrow my copy any time. I also have a couple of Sweet boots that are kind of interesting - among other things, you get to hear him do the Scooby Doo and Speed Racer theme songs. He also does a very cool version of Magnet and Steel (Walter Egan, late 70s). Eric
  10. I got it ... listened to it a few times ... not bad, but not as good as Girlfriend, In Reverse or 100% Fun. Has more of a throw-away feel to it. BTW, the copy-control stuff sucks - it doesn't always play right. Eric
  11. I really like "Moon Rappin'" by Jack McDuff on Blue Note. It has a bit of a late 60s "spacy" feel to it, but it really cooks. Another good one is "Think" by Lonnie Smith, also on Blue Note but not available on domestic BN. Not really obscure I suppose, but I really like the Wes Montgomery organ trio dates - "Portrait of Wes" in particular. Tough question - this board does a pretty good job covering the genre! Eric
  12. Scary ... I just ordered this from amazon without seeing this thread ... Eric
  13. Got a Good Thing Goin' Smokes! Eric
  14. Yeah, forgot about the Bird and Dizzy set - that sounds incredible (and sorry Rooster) and even more tempting than the new Hill set I have sorta of forgotten about the Cellar Door stuff. I think this has the potential to be very, very good, although if I am not mistaken, McLaughlin is not on the unissued stuff. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks, Eric PS - Oh yeah - the Marsh will be on the very short list too
  15. Holy obscurity, Batman B) Eric
  16. Charlie Parker - Complete Verve Master Takes - think it comes out on 10/28. Eric
  17. I just noticed that Ray Brown plays bass on a couple of tracks from "King of America". You can especially hear him on "Poisoned Rose". Interesting ... Eric
  18. Seems I had this on lp once and traded it because it was almost unlistenable. But, I could have been wrong and so I would appreciate the opinion of anyone that owns this. Thanks, Eric
  19. Nope, but the mice did! B)
  20. Gotta love those CHIEFS!!! 6-0, beating the Packers in OT. This is particularly sweet for me as I was born in Green Bay. Eric
  21. Thanks Mike!!
  22. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=glance&s=music Thanks, Eric
  23. I also love the 2nd strip - it has been stashed in my "humor" file at work for years. Can't wait for the return of Steve Dallas (the evil Steve that is). Eric
  24. I know this is going in the "wrong direction" of this thread, but I would highly recommend "Think" to Lonnie Smith fans. I had this on an old BN cassette for years and it is a definitely ass-shaker Lee Morgan and Fathead Newman are the horns. After loving this for years, I tracked down "Turning Point" ... and yeah I was disappointed too. Eric
  25. Wasn't one of these sequenced for a Japanese-only lp in the 70s or 80s? Surely if it got that far, it would be worthy of release. I would still LOVE to get Andrew! and Dance with Death (on CD that is). Eric
