I have the Ron Horton - I think Kurt Rosenwinkel plays on it (or maybe that was the Phil Grenadier). Nice CDs. I think FSNT puts out good stuff. I sort of view them as a Criss Cross type label. Eric

funny Lon, snagged those a week ago (inspired by this thread of course) Eric PS - Elmore James does in fact kick major butt too ... I got into all this music about 10 years ago ... it has been fun to pull out/listen to all the CDs since the inception of this thread PSS - Another guy who I really enjoy is Son Seals ... more of a 70s guy and the guitar tone is not quite as perfect as some of the above guys, but a great listen nonetheless - Chicago Fire is my favorite ...

YES - it is the early stuff and is very, very tasty. From there, it generally becomes more "rock-oriented", whatever that means I have an EMI set (may be out of print) that collects the "Shelter" recordings. Sure, it is not PURE blues, but it is close enough for me and Freddie is all there, vocals and playing-wise. After the Rhino, it might be easier to just decide what to avoid, if anything. Eric

This board totally blows the BN board away. It really feels like home Eric

DAMN ... after scanning parts of the Dowd report, triple fuck him! Eric

you know, I will be quite pissed if the music CD includes any unreleased stuff (having just bought the DVD) - not to get the cart before the horse, but what a complete lack of respect for their customers if it does ... Eric

Obviously a tough call, given what he did on the field. Sadly, my vote would be no. At some point, there were rules established (or authority granted to those to decide on this situation years ago). Just because he decides to fess up now should not invalidate the decisions made years ago. That would effectively be saying - the decisions made years ago are being overturned on the basis of Rose's admission that he lied to the decision-makers years ago. What the hell kind of sense does that make? It is like someone who went to jail for committing a crime years ago, who after denying it for years, now admits it. What do you do now - let that person out of prison? Last time I checked, we live by the rule of law - not the rule of sympathy. (I recognize of course that this is not a legal matter per se, but I think the general concept applies here). Eric

Lucky Thompson - now there would be one hell of a Mosaic project !!! Eric

The Blue Note DVD is out and is an enhanced version of the Town Hall Concert from the mid-80s. There is a thread on it somewhere on the board if you are interested. Eric

or maybe this little gem:

Couple of points above ... I agree, Clapton has tried to help popularize his (and my) heros. I also think "overhyped" and "overworshiped" are right on ... not his fault for sure. Anyway, I have used this album to "convert" a number of my previously uninitiated friends to what blues guitar is all about ... damn near perfect record:

Freddie King Albert King Otis Rush Magic Sam Albert Collins all of 'em Gods ... IMHO, I don't think Clapton compares to these guys at all. Consider all the horseshit he has put out over the years ... tasteless horseshit. On the other hand, with the possible exception of a few Freddie King records, everything these guys did was great. Burning, tastful and damn soulful. Sorry for ranting and I know nobody was asserting that Clapton was better, but I just get a little tired of the Claption is God stuff, much of which comes from the mouths of my friends. Clapton was/is competent pop artist and a decent blues copycat, but is incredibly overrated as a blues guitarist. Eric

Think I am the lone voter for Born to Be Blue. I love the Green/Ike Quebec combination. I remember snagging this to celebrate my passing the CPA exam, way back in 1985 or so. Anyway, all his other stuff is great of course, but this one really sounds soulful and sophisticated to me. To each his own of course, but I am not a huge, huge fan of Idle Moments or Street of Dreams (or Solid for that matter) -- at least relative to other GG albums. I mean, there is super playing on all of them and the tunes are excellent. But, I really like his trio/quartet stuff. The more Grant the better, I guess. Eric

Gotta tell you guys ... Un-do is the best. It is specifically designed for removing stickers/goo ... the bottle even has a built-in tool to help peel them off. The liquid you squirt on evaporates quickly and never damages the printed material. Nifty stuff! Eric
-
Try Un-do. It works great for both removing stickers and the residue. Eric

This rocks - thanks - Eric

Thanks for bringing this us ... the shit matters!!! Eric -
Hey Spon, Glad to see another KC board member - that's at least four of us - the ubiquitous Rooster Ties, Free for All, myself and you. We should get together some time. Anyway, thanks for the tip. I am OK on FM - even got KANU in Lawrence with pretty clear reception. Eric
-
I just bought an NAD 422 tuner. My FM reception here in Kansas City seems to be pretty good, but AM reception just sucks. I am using the antenna supplied by NAD but was wondering if a better antenna might help. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks PS - I listen to AM for basketball/football games.

Conn Series, maybe you have a point about the Chiefs being a year away. I think the Chiefs fans have attached a sense of urgency to this year, as there is some uncertainty around whether Vermeil is going to retire. But aside from that, we could definitely shore up the defense off season and our offensive guys are all in their prime. I do think New England and Indy would make one hell of an AFC championship game though ... Eric
