  1. BTW Rooster, you can borrow my copy any time. I also have a couple of Sweet boots that are kind of interesting - among other things, you get to hear him do the Scooby Doo and Speed Racer theme songs. He also does a very cool version of Magnet and Steel (Walter Egan, late 70s). Eric
  2. I got it ... listened to it a few times ... not bad, but not as good as Girlfriend, In Reverse or 100% Fun. Has more of a throw-away feel to it. BTW, the copy-control stuff sucks - it doesn't always play right. Eric
  3. I really like "Moon Rappin'" by Jack McDuff on Blue Note. It has a bit of a late 60s "spacy" feel to it, but it really cooks. Another good one is "Think" by Lonnie Smith, also on Blue Note but not available on domestic BN. Not really obscure I suppose, but I really like the Wes Montgomery organ trio dates - "Portrait of Wes" in particular. Tough question - this board does a pretty good job covering the genre! Eric
  4. Scary ... I just ordered this from amazon without seeing this thread ... Eric
  5. Got a Good Thing Goin' Smokes! Eric
  6. Yeah, forgot about the Bird and Dizzy set - that sounds incredible (and sorry Rooster) and even more tempting than the new Hill set I have sorta of forgotten about the Cellar Door stuff. I think this has the potential to be very, very good, although if I am not mistaken, McLaughlin is not on the unissued stuff. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks, Eric PS - Oh yeah - the Marsh will be on the very short list too
  7. Holy obscurity, Batman B) Eric
  8. Charlie Parker - Complete Verve Master Takes - think it comes out on 10/28. Eric
  9. I just noticed that Ray Brown plays bass on a couple of tracks from "King of America". You can especially hear him on "Poisoned Rose". Interesting ... Eric
  10. Seems I had this on lp once and traded it because it was almost unlistenable. But, I could have been wrong and so I would appreciate the opinion of anyone that owns this. Thanks, Eric
  11. Nope, but the mice did! B)
  12. Gotta love those CHIEFS!!! 6-0, beating the Packers in OT. This is particularly sweet for me as I was born in Green Bay. Eric
  13. Thanks Mike!!
  14. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=glance&s=music Thanks, Eric
  15. I also love the 2nd strip - it has been stashed in my "humor" file at work for years. Can't wait for the return of Steve Dallas (the evil Steve that is). Eric
  16. I know this is going in the "wrong direction" of this thread, but I would highly recommend "Think" to Lonnie Smith fans. I had this on an old BN cassette for years and it is a definitely ass-shaker Lee Morgan and Fathead Newman are the horns. After loving this for years, I tracked down "Turning Point" ... and yeah I was disappointed too. Eric
  17. Wasn't one of these sequenced for a Japanese-only lp in the 70s or 80s? Surely if it got that far, it would be worthy of release. I would still LOVE to get Andrew! and Dance with Death (on CD that is). Eric
  18. What about including the two 80s lps in the scope? Certainly similar in terms of "look and feel" ... Eric
  19. I received this yesterday and had a chance to listen to it a bit in the car. I don't have a hell of a lot to add to the above, except to say that I really do enjoy what I've heard so far. I like the tunes and the accents that are played behind the solos. Oddly, one of the tracks sounds very familiar - can't remember which one - have any of these been recorded before. Another oddball impression - parts of it - maybe just the overall feel - remind me of "Mode for Joe". It is simply stunning to me that this thing sat for so long, although Cuscuna's explaination of why makes sense (lousy mix on the first tapes he heard). Kudos to BN and AH for putting this out!!! Eric
  20. Found it! Lonnie's Lament! Thanks
  21. Sometime in the last 5-7 years, I remember grooving quite nicely to a KG track that featured PM on guitar synth. Seems it was an intense tune and after KG's solo, PM comes crashing in on the guitar synth. I emphasize the "synth" aspect because that is part of what it so cool. My obvious guess would be the KG CD Pursuance, but no luck finding it so far. Eric
  22. never seen this before ...
  23. Rooster, According to UPS, my copy is in Des Moines at the moment, which means it s/b in KC on Wednesday. You are more than welcome to swing by and borrow it - I will have my three young kids with me and their taste for AH is not quite as well developed as ours Just let me know - I live in old Leawood - not too far from the KU Med area. Eric
  24. As the third wheel of the KC connection (Free for All and Rosoter being the others), I can only say that I wish I could join you guys beating down the doors at Streetside. I am still waiting for CD Universe to put me in "shipping" mode Eric
  25. I love Trane and this is a real nice treat! It is very interesting to listen to the sound of his voice and the "pacing" of his conversation. I dig the way he pauses to answer the questions and seems very thoughtful in his responses. He also sounds very relaxed and there are bits of humor here and there. Who is asking the questions? This is awesome!!! Eric
