I am a pretty easy-going guy. But I freaking hate the fruit in the beer!!!

After Crouch's last public lecture in Kansas City, I can imagine that. Somehow I missed a Kansas City appearance by Crouch. When and where was it? What did he say? He may have been here more recently, but I saw/heard him speak/ramble before the Charles McPherson/Tom Harrell show at the Gem a couple years ago.

PM sent on Hank.

Here is the Click Repair site: http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~briand/sound/ I am presuming that I can bring it in using INport and then clean it up with Cilck Repair (although as mentioned above, the occasional scratches are OK with me).

Thanks for the tip Chuck. I got this a few days ago and checked it out last night. I am not a computer genius, but got everything working on the first try. I also have a Marantz burner - the advantage of the INport device is that you skip the step of having to burn a CD and then import it into your laptop - plus with INport, you can record an entire side and then create individual tracks on your computer (although the ripping program that comes along also seems to do this for you with INport).

Has anyone seen a track listing? In the US, it looks like there is also a Jimmy McGriff big band record coming out on BN the same day. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...355854238&BAB=M -
Slightly OT Chuck, but I was wondering what falls among your favorite Morgan sessions?
-
This is a wonderful record, IMHO. The track you have is not really representative, although somehow it fits with the whole album.
-
Oddly, if you look at GG's discography at All Music, it shows this as a 2006 release - even has a catalog number. Bingo! http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...D=5092246&BAB=L

Fortunately we are getting closer and closer to being able to assemble the Hill set with individual CDs. I thought we would never see the just-reissued Pax. It seems like Compulsion would be put out at some time too. Don't know about that Rivers quartet, although that would be a great one. PS - Only reason I track this so closely is that I once had the Hill set and LOST it. Not sold, lost.

No kidding, that was really random (nothwithstanding whatever "cohesion criteria" touted by Mosaic).

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

Love that record (Jazz Contemporary)!!

Me too - I even check out the mechandise they have been selling (or buying) recently (i.e. on the feedback details section) to get a feel for whether or not they know what they are doing. I will also check out "view seller's other auctions" to help complete the picture. Even then, I am more often than not surprised about the poor (relative to advertised) quality of items. It is pretty clear to me that there a bunch of fairly half-a$$ed sellers out there.

This is how I would describe all his Criss Cross CDs - except I really like his compositions. They take a little while to sink, but this is stuff you can really get into.
-
I have several of them. I think they are worth the $ for a number of reasons. You can stack them and put your actual gear on top (you can either buy the laminate top or make your own). They are strong and sturdy - never had any problem with any of the mechanisms. On color, mine are black - they look sharp!

He has long been one of my favorite pianists. So young, so sad. Damn ...

My retail buying habits have changed significantly over the past 10 years. Used to be, a business trip to Chicago meant a mandatory stop at JRM and a financial impact to be in the $200 - $300 range. Now, I cannot remember the last time I went there. The online model is quite compelling, especially if you know what you are looking for. In 2006 alone, the three largest used record stores in KC have shut down. The remaining retail stores are awful. I still think that a independent record store could work, although maybe I am nuts. For me, the key would be service - in particular, the ability to recommend something fresh. 99% of the recommendations I receive now are online - from some critic or here. Frankly (aside from this place), my tastes seem to be out of alignment with many critics, especially on the rock side of the house. So in terms of directing my music dollar, I would definitely spend with a local independent with a great staff. The key of course is "great staff". There is a pretty cool indendent store in nearby Lawrence (a college town), but the staff is rather clueless. Still, it is fun to talk music with the owner when he is around.
