  1. I generally agree with that sentiment, but I think Clash demos would be fun to hear - so much of their appeal is their rawness - so I am expecting good things here ... plus if there are some new titles that did not make it to the CD ...
  2. I'm 26 ... (well, actually I'm 42 but ...)
  3. STRONG BUY!!!
  4. anybody know this one? WES MONTGOMERY/ JON HENDRICKS/ MASTERSOUNDS Good Git-Together (plus Kismet -- A Jazz Interpretation By The Mastersounds) An obscure set of tracks -- but some really wonderful material from the catalog of Pacific Jazz Records! The first 10 tracks on the CD are from the album Good Git Together by Jon Hendricks -- a rare early non-LHR session by the jazz vocalist -- and the last 8 tracks feature The Mastersounds! I am wondering about the "Wes content" ... ?
  5. I seem to recall a few fluffs, which maybe influended why it was held back? They don't bother me in the least and I love this album - one of my favorites of his.
  6. Wow - thanks for the link Mike. I see a very interesting Sonny Rollins/Teddy Edwards live date that I have never heard about. Looks like two separate dates on each side of an lp. Doesn't Verve have access to this stuff?
  7. Just got it ... I like it.
  8. Got it on the studio stuff ... it is on the live/broadcast side where I am confused ... (I am presuming the Columbia box is all studio - is that not the case?)
  9. Aside from the set on Fantasy, where else to go for live stuff? It seems pretty confusing ...
  10. I think I have one of the original Columbia CDs ... but nothing else. I have looked at AMG and Amazon, but it is confusing as hell. Plus I suspect there are some Christian nuts here ... so recommend away B)
  11. I don't own a thing by this guy - and Fantasy has reissued a ton of it. Any suggestions on where to start and why? Thanks
  12. There is a thread over at All About Jazz - says Concord is now owned by an entertainment conglomerate (my word - not theirs) owned in part by Norman Lear. Depends on how the deal was financed - Lear and Co could have just given Fantasy a piece of their company as compensation or they could have borrowed to finance part of the deal.
  13. Great CD ... available from CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jsquintet
  14. the Billboard release refers to "eight previous Davis albums" (and seven CDs vs six) on Alan's site ...
  15. Which albums are going to be on this set? Thanks
  16. Wow - that is sad. How does a guy like that get to be 61? Too bad he had to go that way ...
  17. I like it, but would not pay $90. It seems these sides drift in and out of print ... although the Prevue copy will probably have the best sound ...
  18. 20+ Had a buddy in college who turned me on, early 80s. Then took a jazz appreciation class, with an outstanding instructor, and was hooked!!
