On TCM Airplane!/Zero Hour!, the film Airplane Parodies
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Isn't that crazy???? I must have just seen a fraction of the film, I really didn't remember much of it at all. So many things that only nuts that have seen Airplane many times might notice. The boy is Joey in both films(But Striker's son in Zero Hour!), the guy on the phone saying he's a menace to everything in the air...was waiting for him to say, yes....birds too! Even the guy in the Lloyd Bridges roll said, looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking! Fantastic! Abrahams and the Zucker brothers must have watched Zero Hour! a few dozen times while high, and just imagined what the characters might have said. And you know what??? It's not a bad little film...better than the much bigger budgeted The Crowded Sky(1960) that ran before Airplane! -

Even better than the q-tip idea, actually. Wish we had thought of that. If you don't mind, if you can find out what that was, that would be great! Wow! Will do...sad to think it's pushed by vets as a great product... -
I remember a few months before my Mom died, her knocking on the wall(she was bedridden at the time) and I came in to see what she wanted. She was so tickled because Zero Hour was on, and she told me how it appeared Airplane had stolen so much of the plot for Airplane. I had always assumed Airplane just was a parody of the Airport movies, but clearly this film was the main inspiration. The Crew gets sick, a man has to fly that has given it up...we caught it late, but laughed at what we saw. And if you haven't seen Airplane, it's only one of the best comedies eva! 10:00pm [Comedy] Airplane! (1980) When a flight crew falls ill, the only man who can land the plane is afraid of flying. Cast: Robert Hays, Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges, Julie Hagerty Dir: Jerry Zucker C-88 mins, TV-MA [Letterbox] [Close Captioned] [Email Remind Me] 11:45pm [suspense/Mystery] Zero Hour! (1957) When a flight crew falls ill, the only man who can land the plane is afraid of flying. Cast: Dana Andrews, Linda Darnell, Sterling Hayden, Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch Dir: Hall Bartlett BW-81 mins, TV-PG

Any suggestions for a cat with a rapidly worsening
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
First off, thanks for all the suggestions guys! Yeah, I thought the shot seemed like they didn't know what was the cause. Just surprised they didn't suggest something to put on it. For his kidneys, we give him Epakitin 150 MG. I have also read up on wheat gluten, and how a some think it's bad for cats...all the Science Diet food has it...anyway, when I can actually read the tiny ingredient label, I avoid getting any food with it. Any thoughts/experiences one way or the other with it??? -

I think the strange sexual habits explain the last part. And you are allowed to live in the L.A. area????? -
Our cat "Baby"(have no idea why Mom named him that except he wasn't fully grown when he found us) is about 13-14 years old. Indoors always. No fleas. Has always had great fur, but in the last week or so started to scratch/lick a patch of fur out, right down to the skin. Didn't seem to be seeping or anything, so tried some anti itch cream. Didn't work. Anti-bacterial cream. Didn't work. Even tried some Manuka Honey to heal the sore. Really didn't work. So, took him to the vet, and they said no infection, gave him a shot of steroids, and said he would be fine. Well, still going over the same area and now the skin is getting scratched up ! I hate to see him suffer like this...he is already dealing with Kidney failure, but still pretty strong, and active. Don't know why the vet said to put nothing on the sore...seems if you could stop the itching, the scratching would stop . It's a little bigger than 2 inches, and it's slightly below his shoulderblades, so one of those huge collars would not keep him from scratching it. Not having much luck on the web...most of the info deals with dogs having this problem and drying out the skin. His skin seems quite dry. Anyone else have this problem with their cat??? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I wonder if this writer's Grandfather thought the Horseless buggy was a waist of time too! By Clifford Stoll | NEWSWEEK From the magazine issue dated Feb 27, 1995 After two decades online, I'm perplexed. It's not that I haven't had a gas of a good time on the Internet. I've met great people and even caught a hacker or two. But today, I'm uneasy about this most trendy and oversold community. Visionaries see a future of telecommuting workers, interactive libraries and multimedia classrooms. They speak of electronic town meetings and virtual communities. Commerce and business will shift from offices and malls to networks and modems. And the freedom of digital networks will make government more democratic. The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works. Consider today's online world. The Usenet, a worldwide bulletin board, allows anyone to post messages across the nation. Your word gets out, leapfrogging editors and publishers. Every voice can be heard cheaply and instantly. The result? Every voice is heard. The cacophany more closely resembles citizens band radio, complete with handles, harrasment, and anonymous threats. When most everyone shouts, few listen. How about electronic publishing? Try reading a book on disc. At best, it's an unpleasant chore: the myopic glow of a clunky computer replaces the friendly pages of a book. And you can't tote that laptop to the beach. Yet Nicholas Negroponte, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicts that we'll soon buy books and newspapers straight over the Intenet. Uh, sure. More

I'm sure you all want to hear more about the JHey kid! I saw that single described below on baseball tonight, whizzed past the first baseman, then was being scooped up by the right fielder like a ball hit in front of him. First baseman are going to fear this guy! “Everybody knows he belongs,” catcher Brian McCann said of Heyward, Baseball American’s 2009 minor league Player of the Year. “It’s just a matter of getting used to the big-league pitching, how quick the adjustments are made. “But he’s the best 20-year-old I’ve ever seen.” He didn’t hit any tape-measure homers like he has during car-denting batting-practice displays at Braves camp. But he scorched a single down the right-field line that drew a few oohs and ahhs. Former Mets star and broadcaster Keith Hernandez called it a “Willy McCovey shot,” and Cox said it was “the hardest-hit single you’re ever going to see in your life.”

Ahh, spring is about to be sprung.... Cannot wait to see Jason Heyward in action! From the beat writer at the AJC, in a middle of his blog.... Wish I’d been able to file blog comment from field, because the Jason Heyward batting-practice session was pretty memorable. Really was outstanding, for any day not to mention the first day. “He’s strong as an ox,” said Terry Pendleton, who was throwing BP when Heyward hit, and nearly had his head taken off by a liner that Heyward hit up the middle off the edge of the T-screen.. “Every ball was just scalded,” Bobby Cox said, smiling. Then Cox compared the sound of the ball coming off Heyward’s bat to the sound it made coming off — ready for it — Hank Aaron’s bat. “I”m not putting him in that class” of player yet, Cox said, making sure he was clear. “But the sound is the same. It’s different.” Folks, the kid hits balls harder than anyone I’ve ever seen except Cliff Floyd and Gary Sheffield, and he hits them as hard as either of those guys. So many screaming line drives to right field, and when he gets one up a little, it’s a blast that carries waaaay beyond the fence. He crushed one ball that nailed a Coca-Cola truck that was slowly rolling past the right-center fence. Then two swings later, he smoked another ball that sailed completely over the same truck when it was parked in the lot beyond right field. “Kid can hit,” Eric Hinske announced as the veteran uitlity man jumped in to hit after a couple more rockets that Heyward hit out to right-center. “Looks like he’s everything he’s been built up to be.” http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/02/22/coxs-first-day-speech-will-presumably-be-his-last/comment-page-4/

That last line is so very true, and IMHO, the most interesting thing about the whole situation. And I am still not very interested.

Happy to know i'm know the only one who digged this series, too bad they took all the edge away after the first year, wished the show would have been done by HBO or Showtime, they never would have made the wreck the network did. ..... yeah, they really screwed that show up, a shame.... -

I think I mentioned this before here...anyone who lived in St. Louis, Remember O'Connell's??? Still around I am happy to see. But, it seemed best in the early 80's the hamburgers were so big (10 oz) and tasted like the cow had been killed out back. Each time we have been back, it just wasn't quite as good. It's been a decade though, so for all I know, it's great again. Ever get the hamburger patties at the Kroger butcher??? So much better than anyone else's hamburger. Don't know why. It's no more expensive. It does have a fair bit of fat, which sadly you need for a great hamburger. Had a burger at Longhorns Friday, and that it was really good. Steak N' Shake is the best fast food burger, IMO.
