I find this website a bit confusing.... several cds I looked at do not indicate out of stock, but at the bottom of the listing it has a box to "notify me when back in stock" or some such language.... I guess that means out of stock?

I can see what you are saying now... but for some reason it took me a very long time to get from Hissing to Hejira....a very long time.

I see your point...but want to say that I prefer the guys on Shadows and Light (which includes Jaco and Don Alias) to Tom Scott and the LA Express which is the group on Miles of Aisles.

Well Lon .. it may or may not grow on you... since you have listened for decades perhaps not. Most of the songs on it are from those 3 albums you mentioned as liking... so I guess your mileage for Shadows and Light might depend on whether you like the studio versions better than these live versions or how much you like Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays and Michael Brecker. All the best.

well i get that and the 3 albums you mentioned are obviously super... my initial impression of the Shadows and Light (double cd version) was not so positive but on repeated listenings it has grown on me considerably.

Finally got Shadows and Light - the 2 disc version. I am enjoying it very much and would think anyone who likes Hejira would like this one (although I like Miles of Aisles just as much) with the exception of the title track (Shadow and Light) a rare misfire for Joni that doesn't do much for me.

those that order from cd japan - there are no import charges for the US right? what are the typical shipping charges and how long does it take to get the cds after placing an order? THanks

thanks Medjuck... but I have ordered it twice from 2 different selllers on Amazon both told me it was a 2 disc version and then shipped me the 1 disc version... maybe by accident..... but I really want the 2 disc version.

Does anyone know if the 2cd version of Shadows and Light actually exists now? I have ordered from 2 different sellers on Amazon who assured me I was getting the 2 disc version and then only 1 disc shows up

I enjoyed the broadcast immensely... but like others I am confused by the O"Reilly choice for Herbie... he did fine but those can't be Herbie's politics and O'Reilly is nothing if not political...l don't get it.

Thanks everyone. I recognize that the Lorenz Hart songwriting team is among the greatest.... I see that the California line was in the original and sticks out for me as not fitting .... Lincolns and Fords was added apparently... interesting that you can just make your own adjustments.

Great song... but sometimes I wonder a bit about the lyrics because they don't add up. So most of the lyrics paint a picture of behaviors that might be called ...well not classy But what about "hates california it's cold and it's damp" - first not a behavior and second those are two weather characteristics I don't associate with California ... ok maybe San Francisco... but hey there are much colder and damper places in the US for this tramp to go to since she is presumably not from California. And she "won't go to Harlem in Lincolns or Fords" ... since when are Fords classy? Inquiring minds want to know

Parker does have a street or at least a few blocks on Avenue B around 7th street named for him... or at least it was for a while and there is a plaque on the wall outside of the last apartment he lived in.

Thanks Lon. When I ordered it on Amazon from a marketplace seller the description said 2 cds... but it showed up as one. Maybe if the performances aren't that great I will not return it or attempt to get the 2 cd set.

I just picked up the cd version of Shadows and Light. It omits 3 tracks "Don's Solo" "Free Man in Paris" and another track. Does anyone have a cd version that does not omit 3 tracks? Were these tracks considered the weakest on the album?
