  1. If you pay ImportCDs with credit card, how long does it take for the charge to show up on your bill?
  2. Does anyone know if Chick Corea's "Tones for Joan's Bones" in these japanese release series sounds better than the european version that came out a few years back - that european version sounds very bright and harsh to me.
  3. 4. my box of five japanese SHM cds showed up last night and I have done an initial comparison with the Maiden Voyage RVG. While I like the sound of the SHM, I do not prefer it to the RVG. Not sure I can put my finger on it and while yes they are different... not dramatically so. If the sonic character among SHMs is similar I am somewhat reluctant to open the other four I just got (Empyrean Isles, Speak No Evil, Moanin', The Real McCoy) in case I decide to sell these SHMs... I suppose japanese versions and being sealed brings a higher price.
  5. if you get a solution...let me know.
  6. It would be a four way tie among the following: Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Paul Motian Trio and Ernie Krivda each at least 10 times, probably Ernie a bit more.
  7. What a fabulous musician and composer. I will miss him. Saw him live in Newark NJ a couple of years ago... great concert!
  8. I received a notice about bonus points from CDJapan which says the points expire in 90 days. preserve decorum and order something. It's the only decent thing to do. You sir....are the devil!!!
  9. I received a notice about bonus points from CDJapan which says the points expire in 90 days. preserve decorum and order something. It's the only decent thing to do. In that case, these 300 new customer points must expire sooner than normal. Ordinarily points expire after 1 year. See the following link. By the way, you also get 300 bonus points every year in the month of your birthday. I followed your link and it does say that certain bonus point expire after 90 days... I guess some points are more equal than others!!

    Lee Morgan

Pretty much, yeah. Yeah me too!! Always dug him.... well except for Live at the Lighthouse...not that his playing is bad but the tunes and the context are not his forte... for lack of a better explanation - that is not what I go to Lee Morgan for.
  12. thanks When I got to the shipping cost screen - it just had totals for the various shipping methods so I guess they had already taken into account the number of cds I had ordered. It was not clear to me from that screen whether you could figure out what the per cd cost is or whether there is some optimal number of cds to order that gives you the lowest shipping cost.
  13. It did say I had 300 free points as a new customer but would not allow me to apply the points to my first order. But again, how many points does it take to buy cds? Also, did you see my question about shipping costs and whether the number of cds has anything to do with it? thanks
  14. Thanks to others who commented on shipping with CDJapan. Placed my first order with CD Japan. I did not see that the number of discs ordered has anything to do with the shipping cost, right? It seems to be a set cost per order - so I guess it makes sense to order as much as possible in order to save on shipping. I do not get the bonus points system - none of the cds tell you have many points you need to buy them and can you apply partial points to a cd if you don't have enough points to get it?
  15. thanks for the information
  16. Thanks Lon!!!
  17. what shipping speed do you guys use for CDJapan to the US? Is it a big price and arrival time difference?
  18. Call it what you want, but I don't like being told what I would like and what not. Anyway, I'll not respond to your "sonic posts" anymore. I can only hope you'll do the same with mine. It was my impression that Lon was trying to save you some money!!
  19. 2 solutions: 1) Buy a good reading magnifying glass (available at Barnes & Noble in the book light section) 2) Scan the liner notes and view it on your computer screen, where you can magnify the size. I need to correct something - the artwork on my A New Conception did indeed have the liner notes in English in larger print - so my quibble is only with the Henderson SHMs not the TYCJ series
  20. got my SHM copy of A New Conception, sound is better than the Mosaic but not as dramatically better as on the Henderson State of the Tenor cds which I suppose stands to reason given that the Mosaic was much later than the original domestic releases of the Henderson cds. One other point about A New Conception for me is that while often times this format (the "out" player plays - for lack of a better word - more conventional music) I shy away from.... this one works!
  21. Well you may not be an audiophile but your comparison of the SHM versions of Joe Henderson's State of the Tenor with the 80s releases of the material was quite on target - I totally agree with you - and it is what caused me to buy the SHM versions. Thanks again.
  22. Speak Like a Child is another one I was thinking about getting again. You are saying the SHM of Speak is disappointing compared to SHM Maiden Voyage? that is bad news... again my impression is that Maiden Voyage was one of the recordings that has not sounded right on CD to me... but I am encouraged by your report on the SHM version of Maiden Voyage.... it must be really improved.
  23. I didn't call you dishonest ... read my post... I said that if you are suggesting that you don't mind people changing the subject on you when you are talking in person to people .... then I find that statement to be dishonest.... as I said I don't believe anyone likes that. You were the one who made the analogy between live conversation and the discussion in threads here and I make a comment on that and then you tell me I am not using an apt analogy.... It's YOUR analogy dude ....Sheesh I wonder why you can't read erwbol's posts? Can't we just talk about Bootleg Vol. 3? For the same reason I can't read his since his return from absence. The guy plainly likes to divert any topic he participates in to his own current preoccupations. He also likes to pick fights with people he knows he fundamentally disagrees with anyway. (For example with Lon over cables, hi-fi equipment etc.) I'm not saying Scott is a troll, but I do not care to read most of what he posts. I'm sure some people don't care about my posts either. That's fine with me. that's what I suspected.... thanks erwbol for clearing it up.

  25. I am sure that you, like most people, are just thrilled when you are talking to someone in person who interrupts you and abruptly changes the subject. I am sure that you immediately accept that what you were going on about was really not important and that a subject change is just what is called for. Not an apt analogy, sorry. Steve made a general point, and almost everyone participating in the thread responded, and the conversation continued on naturally. Even the person who started this thread said he had no problem with it. You're the only one complaining. It is not an analogy. I was responding to your statement that you wonder if those who complain about thread drift here on the Board object to people changing the subject when having conversations in person - the implication being that you have no objections. I was responding to that particular statement and suggesting that you are not being honest if you say you welcome subject changes in discussions. I am not the only one complaining here....at least erwbol complained and others too...but you like to leave things out. But I am tired of this so let's just drop it, ok?
