  1. It was only 1 block over and probably less than 100 feet away. Fortunately the former site of the Fillmore East - now a bank - does not appear to be damaged. Typical NYC shenanigans involved in this tragedy.... too bad.
  2. I am a fan...he will be missed.
  3. Has anyone purchased the 2015 box and do you know if it is remastered?
  4. Saw a quartet gig with him last night. Excellent music.
  5. "essential" was probably too strong of a word to use.... thanks for your comments
  6. Just recently picked up this trio recording with Haden and Motian. It runs the gamut from very melodic to some pretty out sounding stuff with Jarrett doing a Pharoah-like sound on sax at times. Performances are quite good...but I have not decided if this is essential Anyone else have thoughts on this one?
  7. I will miss him... thanks for everything Ian!

What a marvelous musician, singer and composer! Don't make them like that much anymore.
  9. It is too hard to pick... but one that I was listening to this week and just struck me a short and sweet is Herbie Hancock's solo on his own composition "Alone and I" --- just brilliant.
  10. sad news... thanks for the music Kenny
  11. I was in LA last month and dropped in on the Grammy Museum to the exhibits on Blue Note and the Laurel Canyon music scene of the 60s and 70s - I really loved both shows and they had many cool artifacts - Blue Note fans would love that show in particular.
  12. Glad to hear that.... belated best wishes on your birthday Lon

  21. I have Jazz Player issues from 1993 through May 2000 (32 issues in total) and Saxophone Journal from 1994-1997 (12 issues) Each issue comes with a compact disc (except for the first four issues of Sax Journal) that includes demonstration tracks and playalong tracks and the magazines have solo transcriptions, interviews and Masterclass technical discussions by such players as Pharaoh Sanders, David Fathead Newman, Bobby Watson, Johnny Griffin, Hamiet Bluiett, Clark Terry, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Dave Liebman and others. The Magazines and cds are near mint and most were priced around $9.99 to $11.95 except for the issues without cds I would sell these at a price of US $6.00/issue with postage extra (shipping would vary obviously depending on how many issues you want). I would reduce the price if you want them all. IF you are looking for a particular issue, please inquire
  22. Sad news... he was one of my all-time favorites!!!
  23. I don't know about Stairway to Heaven and Taurus.... but Zep sure did rip off the Small Faces on a tune or two (I am thinking "You Need Loving" by the Small Faces....Plant has pretty much acknowledged this and his singing style is oh so like Marriott's.
  24. Yes that is the movie. Has anyone seen the whole thing ....is it any good as far as jazz movies go?
