It was only 1 block over and probably less than 100 feet away. Fortunately the former site of the Fillmore East - now a bank - does not appear to be damaged. Typical NYC shenanigans involved in this tragedy.... too bad.

Just recently picked up this trio recording with Haden and Motian. It runs the gamut from very melodic to some pretty out sounding stuff with Jarrett doing a Pharoah-like sound on sax at times. Performances are quite good...but I have not decided if this is essential Anyone else have thoughts on this one?

What a marvelous musician, singer and composer! Don't make them like that much anymore.

It is too hard to pick... but one that I was listening to this week and just struck me a short and sweet is Herbie Hancock's solo on his own composition "Alone and I" --- just brilliant.

I was in LA last month and dropped in on the Grammy Museum to the exhibits on Blue Note and the Laurel Canyon music scene of the 60s and 70s - I really loved both shows and they had many cool artifacts - Blue Note fans would love that show in particular.

Sad news... he was one of my all-time favorites!!!

I don't know about Stairway to Heaven and Taurus.... but Zep sure did rip off the Small Faces on a tune or two (I am thinking "You Need Loving" by the Small Faces....Plant has pretty much acknowledged this and his singing style is oh so like Marriott's.
