  1. R.I.P. Jack. DEEP has pointed out that Jack Lesberg is probably the last of the Condon guys. BTW - Jack Lesberg takes a very nice solo on Wild Bill Davison's Commodore recording of "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams".
  2. Thanks, GA.
  3. Also BRAFF ! was available on cd.
  4. CAT MEETS CHICK is on a Jimmy Rushing Collectables along with THE JAZZ ODDYSEY OF JIMMY RUSHING. I think BACK IN BEANS BAG and BEN AND SWEETS was also available as a twofer.
  5. I've hardly entered the cell phone era yet, so I have to plead ignorance when it comes to cell phones. The other day a friend of mine gave me a cell phone she had replaced with a newer model. Can I bring this to a store and have it reprogramed with a new number ?
  6. If you can get these....get 'em. The great material far outweighs the not as interesting things and this will NEVER be reissued in as complete a form again. In some cases there are not only alternate takes but 3rd and 4th alternates.
  7. Happy New Year Everyone.
  8. Yeah. I think so too...for this country and for all of us who are not of the priveleged (wealthy and connected) class. In this thread we haven't even touched upon social issues of race and class that is another sympton of these times. We don't touch those issues anymore. My opinion ? The best America had to offer was the Liberalism of the 60s (Liberalism is a POSITIVE thing. It is FREE thinking - not what conservatives vilify as bleeding heart, etc). Conservatives since then have been battling to stifle Liberal thinking and to undo the social programs of the 60s and before...actually to undo Roosevelt's NEW DEAL. In reality we need another NEW DEAL.
  9. It's depressing that George Wallace's mesage is an example of one that is still being propagated. There were so many more positive messages in the 60s.
  10. I haven't seen the video , but I was there for the original. MartyJazz makes a good point about the draft and the lack of demonstrations and involvement from the public today. It seems the social concsiousneess in the 60s was a lot more acute. Opposition to the war in Iraq seem tame and lame in comparison to opposition to the war in Nam. I think the corporate takeover of the media is one cause of this. The Liberal media may have been a factor in the 60s, but todays media is anything but Liberal. Corporate ownership of the Networks has resulted in a sanitized version of news reporting that really amounts to de facto (how's that for a 60s word?) censorship. Example: No real battle footage from Iraq, no body bags in Iraq OR New Orleans (very revealing). The lack of talk shows that are anything other than conservative republican shill productions or book and movie promos is another obvious factor.
  11. Gave a listen today to disc one. Sounds good to me, an improvement over the last Rounder "music only" set. Still, it would have been nice to see what Mosaic or the late John RT Davies could have done. Did John RT do the Swaggie lps that have been mentioned previously on this thread ? In any event there is no reason for anyone to NOT get this set becase of the sound. The content is wonderful. I was completely absorbed in it. Jelly is a raconteur supreme. There was not one uninteresting moment. I'm looking forward to a lot of enjoyment from this set.
  12. I really had to hit NULL. I'm enjoying both releases and I'm glad to have both of them.
  13. ....by Billie Holiday is one swingin' side ! I had disc one from the Billie Columbia box on the car stereo today. I've been familiar with this rendition since the days of vinyl, but today it just really all came back. This is ONE SWINGIN' SIDE ! Bunny Berigan, Artie Shaw, Joe Bushkin, Cozy Cole and Pete Peterson all are kickin' behind Billie...and on the strength of this record Pete Peterson can walk his ass off ! Billie is in strong voice - a little hoarseness adding to the effect. She's singing on the beat and swingin' to beat the band. "Swing Song" indeed !
  14. Happy Birthday Upright Bill..and MANY MANY MORE !
  15. This one hits me a little more than usual. I didn't know Steve well, but I DID know him and have done several gigs with him. He was a great player, was A LOT of fun to work with - he had a great sense of humor, and I enjoyed every gig I worked with him. Those of you familiar with the Sinatra/Buddy Rich video - I think it was called "Concert For The Americas" - That's Steve and Andy Fusco on camera behind Sinatra throughout most of that video.
  16. Sad news.
  17. Nope--still alive at 73. Barbara Feldon "Dead or Alive Info" Page ←
  18. Sorry to see him go. I can't believe he was 82 ! Then I just heard on the Radio that Agent 99 died years ago. I totally missed that !
  19. With I.E. I have a similar Jim describes not on Organissimo but at Jazz Corner. Organissimo is cool. On Mozilla Organissimo never fully loads.
  20. The Cliff Jackson date is excellent. CD Univese has STRIDEMONSTER on sale. I forget the exact price, but I ordered it a couple of days ago.
  21. Harold_Z

    Greetings

Welcome Billie. I'm looking forward to your input.
  22. I second Jim on this. It's a really nice record.
  23. Dave - are the recordings originally released in Mono still in mono on this set? On the old 3 cd set there were quite a few tracks where I really didn't dig the stereo. I was totally used to to the mono on the old early Atlantic lps - which (if I remember correctly) weren't available in stereo
  24. I still can't use Mozilla at this site. Can't access the Reply button - it doesn't exist on that browser. It's the only site I have a problem with, so I keep a window open on I.E, just for the BIG O.
  25. Wow, so that is JG at the piano! Loved his work with Shaw and Pres but never heard him play with that kind of facility. Gotta get those sides with Slam. ← I hae an old 45 E.P. on the Royale label that has 4 of the tracks (not this one-however) on the cd Brownie linked too. I've been meaning to order it for some time. Guarnieri sounds wonderful on these 4 tracks, I finally did order the other night at CD universe. The were backordered, but I hope that come in soon.
