  1. I'm pretty damned tired of science trying to "debunk" cool stuff like extra-sensory perception, remote viewing, perpetual motion and x-ray vision. Bending spoons with your mind isn't "bunk"! So I'm turning the tables. First up: "Sir" Isaac Newton. Aside from the fig thing, the guy was a quack. This morning, I took on the hokum about two objects of different mass falling at equal rates. (Yeh, this one's just asking for some dis-provin') So my wife puts out both hands, palms-up. In one hand, I put a tennis ball; in the other, a supercharged 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Bam! Just like that, the Avanti's on the ground. Damn-near got her new Skecher roly-poly workout shoe that makes her butt like J. Lo's. So then - and hey, here's the science-y part -I have her switch hands. (Man, am I clever.). Same damn thing. Eyes closed. With all the grease wiped off the Avanti as good as I could do with my bowling ball towel. AMC Javelin. I even found an old, white tennis ball Rex hadn't total ate. Take that! SIN-man.

  4. I wish you all the happiest!
  5. !!Happy Birthday!!
  6. Happy Birthday, 2010, Randy!
  7. I'm working in Chicago the week of July 18th. If I manipulate my schedule just so, I think I can catch one set, provided its not too far from The Loop on CTA. I've checked the usual venues: Underground Wonderbar, Green Mill, Katerina's, Jerry's (...though I can't make Sunday), Andy's (where I saw Organissimo!)... Some fine-looking concerts, so I won't go music-less. But I know there are some players from Chicago that drop in here. I'd rather catch something different, instead of just a "big name" or take a roll of the dice.
  8. Man, Fox Mulder should investigate you. Kind of sad when I have to resort to a web search to understand a comment related to American culture from someone in Italy. There's definitely a downside here!
  9. I haven't watched TV (or movie or video or whatever) since 1978. But I'll never forget, as a kid, Trouble with Tribbles, on Star Trek. We didn't have television at home. The kid I watched it with went on to be an (I guess) big comic book art guy (with a movie spinoff).
  10. On time in 2010! Have a great one!
  11. Check out all the other materials and transcriptions. Really, a great resource. Highly recommended.
  12. Happy birthday!
  13. My interest exactly. I have all of these previous Dragon and Phontastic things.
  14. Has anyone seen this for sale (as a CD, not a download)? The usual suspects don't seem to have it. I can't tell how much of the stuff with Wardell Gray is reissue - looks like most/all.
  15. That time again. Happys, y'all.
  16. In my situation (everything I buy, I have to dispose of within a week or few, because I don't have a place to keep it), I buy bunches of stuff out of the "dollar bin". Long ago, I bought Archie Shepp/NHOP - Looking at Bird. Changed my life. Well, not quite, but sent me a new direction. Got me into Shepp, duos, bass players...pushed me a bit further "outside" (not that it's very far "out", but relative to my tastes in 1980(?))
  17. Happy birthday! !
  18. No doubt about it, 8 second samples can be deceptive. Perhaps someday, there will be a thread about basing purchases on samples and being surprised.
  19. I'm off-topic here (kinda), but I wonder how many "blind" purchases will be made in the distant future. I'm thinking of the future where the bulk of music is downloaded and supported by samples, which would seem to render a purchase "un-blind", by my definition. Oh, sure, there will still be some CDs and LPs available, brick and mortar, but the majority... If you agree with the premise, what does it mean for the joy of discovery, in your opinion? Does having a sample in advance dilute the joy?
  20. 'Zat time again. Have a great one, PHILLYQ!
  21. Ghost, I think your p-mail box is full.
  22. Thanks for the music. Rest peacefully.
  23. Have a great one!
