  1. That's a strange photo of Herbie on the cover !
  2. ...and the good doctor!
  3. Have you seen her, she would have me whipped also !
  4. I was going to go to the show at Purdue but too many things going on. I know Ghost went to see the show a few days ago in Bloomington and thought it was very good. The last time I say Shorter and Hancock together was about 4-5 years ago and I thought they were very good but the last time I saw Shorter with his current band, I also was underwhelmed.
  5. SS1, I have seen LD and Dr. Smith several times since I made the photograph. I gave each of them a photo I made of them and they each signed copies for me; very friendly guys! Mark
  6. I also saw this band a year or so ago and I agree with DTMX, I didn't recognize several of the tunes either and wasn't really that impressed. Although I've always been a fan of Shorter's, I certainly didn't think this was close to being the best show I had seen. It appeared that Wayne played little "snippets" of tunes but never really got down to playing. I have also seen all of the musicians in other bands and thought their prior performances were much better. Fellow board member Ghost was also at the show with me. I think he posted his opinion on this show elsewhere and I don't recall him being over impressed. Ghost, if you're reading this, correct me if I'm wrong! Mark
  7. Thanks guys, I appreciate it! All in a days work .
  8. Thanks Ubu, made at Jazz at the Bistro in St.Louis.
  9. I, on the other hand thought the McGwire/Sosa battle brought thousands of fans back to the game. Front page headlines, top story on many nightly news programs through out the season. I've been a big baseball fan for 40 years and thought it was great. I was never a fan of Aaron's while a kid, probably because my best friend was (you know how kids are). I also remember watching him tie and break the record and have always been amazed at how little he is mentioned in regards to this feat! I went to a Braves vs. Reds game in juniior high and caught one of his foul balls during batting practice, still have it! Ghost, you're right about the Indianapolis Clown. I met several of the former players at the NCAA Hall of Champions a couple years ago, they had a great exhibit of Clowns memorabilia, very nice. Mark
  10. Well....I guess I figured it out; this is officially the first photograph I have ever managed to post myself!!! This is a photograph I made of Sweet Papa Lou a few years ago!!! Mark
  11. I've always had problems posting photographs, that's because I have no idea what I'm doing!
  12. I have no doubt that Wynton can play, he's just not playing what I want to hear. I don't think you can really deny that he has the ability but he just doesn't light a fire under me, creatively! I'm no trumpet player or musician as far as that goes, so it's just an opinion! Mark
  13. As far as the performances go, the Hampton Sisters were great; they performed many classics such as "Route 66", "Kansas City" and "Summertime" (my personal favorite). There's still a lot of fire left in these women!!! Aletra Hampton is 88 years old and Virtue is 82 or 83, but still wonderful to see and hear. Just last November, they released their first recording after about 60 or so years of performing. Slide was excellent as usual, playing with a local rhythm section of Steve Allee on Piano, Rob Dixon on Tenor, Kenny Phelps on Drums and Frank Smith on Bass. Slide played several classics/standards plus an extended verion of Miles/Evan's "Someday My Prince Will Come" which was a real crown favorite. The Jazz Kitchen is not a huge club by any means but it was packed for both shows. This was my first time meeting Rachel in person and was much fun talking about jazz and other topics, hope to do it again soon! Thanks to Rachel for posting my photographs !!! Mark
  14. I'll be hanging out around the house this Saturday and celebrating Easter and my Mother's 77th B-Day on Sunday. I actually had plans to go see Joey DeFrancesco on Sunday but I don't think my Mom would understand (and I'm sure she wouldn't want to go see him). I'll be headin' to the Jazz Kitchen Friday night for their 10th Anniversary Party and I'm sure I'll go out to dinner Saturday evening (Italian), so a laid-back weekend for sure. Mark
  15. ....the whole "ass licking" thing creeps me out !
  16. Primarily from the late fifties throught the sixties. I have occasionally jaunts into other time periods but I just love that hard bop period! Mark
  17. I do have a nice hand bill from a show at Slugs in NY. It could be from around 66 or so. Also on the bill is the Larry Young Quartet, Albert Ayler Quintet, the Jazz Communicators w/Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson and Louis Hayes, The Sonny Red Quintet, Bobby Timmons/Tommy Turrentine and SunRa. It bright red and very cool! I have a nice scan of it and have a copy hanging up in my music room and my office!
  18. I don't really collect them but have a few. I nice print of Mile's Apple ad, a huge (used in subways) Miles Kind of Blue poster and a RVG poster signed by the master himself! Mark
  19. We don't change our time in Indy, I just have to remember what time it is everywhere else! Mark
  20. Road trip anyone???? (in the Indy area)
  21. I have a friend that played drums for Henry for about 30 years (Jack Gilfoy). He said he was a great guy to work for. Mark
  22. That sounds like fun although I head Byrd's not sounding too good these days .
  23. Catesta, That's the one!
